If DW thinks the right offer has been made he won’t see the start of the season :woohoo:

He’s worth what we want for him as he’s still under contract and we don’t need to sell according to DW

Goodbye Scharner, Figueroa, Alcaraz, Golobart, Lopez and Stam.

We’ve still got Boyce, Ramis and Caldwell.

We’ll be alright – so long as we only play a back three.

If Caldwell plays your only playing a back 2 he’s shocking at best, slower than a tax rebate :woohoo:
In fairness to the lad he was carrying an injury for much of last season.
He must have been carrying that injury since we signed him, he moves like a static caravan

I had a chat with my Old Man and said if the majority of the squad stayed I was going to back them to go up. As you say it’s an exodus and it’s not finished yet and Whelan wants 9 new players and a bigger squad to cope with Europe :woohoo:

If we forget the WHO for a moment and consider the desired attributes of any new manager, these are my top 4 in order of priority irrespective of the name of the guy.

Realism: The single most important thing for me is that the new manager understands from day one, and is happy to work within, strict financial controls which will ensure that Wigan Athletic is run as a viable business concern. I don’t care who he is as long as he doesn’t whinge after 6 or 12 months that more funds aren’t available.

Entertainment: Watching football is my hobby, it’s what I do on my days off work and therefore I want to enjoy it. I’d rather see us win 10 games 3-2, draw 10 games 2-2 and lose 10 games 2-3 than win 15 dull games 1-0 and draw 15 dull games 0-0.

Playing Style: Personal preference but I like to watch teams get the ball on the ground and pass it about and I like to see teams which are attack minded as opposed to being defensive and cautious.

Success: This is a relative measure and very arbitrary, if I’m totally honest I’m not really bothered if we get relegated again as long as all the above have been fulfilled, If we can do all the above, then avoiding relegation would be another successful season for me.

I agree with most of that apart from your last paragraph. Dave Whelan and Roberto Martinez have worked really hard to build a sustainable family football club that grows year on year (support wise). It does my heart good to see all our young fans dressed in their Wigan Athletic kits when just a few years ago they would all have been wearing Man Utd’s et al. It would be a pity if we started to slide down the leagues after all that magnificent work.

I would also include PRIDE in your list. Roberto Martinez was one of the few managers we have had that was proud to be our manager. I got the impression that even Paul Jewel was embarrassed to be our manager at times because we were not big enough for him. It would almost certainly exclude the likes of Steve (Harrods) Bruce from the job who gave the impression he was doing us a favour being here.
He showed great pride Owd Git he got us relegated then fooked off, talk is cheap I’m afraid.

Says he’s going to take Everton into the Champions League :woohoo: I hope that plan works better than his 3 then 4 year plan for us as I’m sure his next level was not supposed to be The Championship

Not quite what he said though, is it? But you carry on making shit up if it makes you feel better.

On Wednesday, Everton chairman Bill Kenwright revealed Martinez had promised to qualify Everton for the group stages of the Champions League.

But the ex-Swansea boss said: “I am not saying it is a realistic target, it has to be the dream.

“We should be fighting to one day be in the Champions League spots.

“We cannot expect that to be a target straight away, that is not the league we are in.”

                            [/quote

I read Sky Sports News app on my phone and that was what Kenwright was quoted as saying. But I’m glad it’s not true cause with Bob in charge Everton have fook all chance.

I dont think he is tactically good enough to create the sort of performance in the FA CUP final where Martinez seemed to leave Mancini with no ideas.

And I dont think he would take us any further than the bottom end of the Premiership.

Not often I disagree with you Salford, but seriously?

Not tactically good enough? Hmm. Which end of the field? Bruce gave us one of our tightest defences in 8 years. How did Bob’s defensive tactics compare?

No further than the bottom end? Hmm #2. Where did we finish with him in his full season? And Bob’s highest positions of 15th/16th in 4 years took us where exactly?

I’d definitely have him back to get us up, but he’s not a long term solution as he would unravel or at best mothball all the hard work that’s gone on behind the scenes.
I was referring solely to the fa cup final that even the darkest of darksiders cant deny was a masterstroke! but Martinez is a better tactician than Bruce IMO.

nothing special about the way Bruce sets up a team by any stroke of the imagination.

his defensive record speaks to itself according to most on here but I think he is lost against the better teams who can break you down.

I would argue you could take a handfull of Martinez’s games in charge and say they are the best performances in latics history.

People who called his teams negative I think are tactically naive as the top and tail of it seems to be anything other than knocking it forward and hoping for the best was according to them negative.

I can’t think of a game under Martinez where we have done anything but try to attack from the first whistle to the last.

unfortunately we lived and died by that sword.
A handful of good performances in 4 seasons, absolutely marvellous :woohoo:

Well worth a bet if we are going to keep the nucleus of the squad together. However if DW sells all our better players you might as well flush your money down the toilet.

mclaren in to 11/4 now from 3/1..martinez has gone from 1/8 out to 2/5..with neil lennon and some ralf bloke from outta knowhere right into joint second favs.

will be interesting to see what happens if everton dont appoint martinez.. could he have the balls to carry on here?

I wouldn’t give him the chance. If he doesn’t think he’s up to the job and doesn’t want to stay then he can fook off some where else and please take Caldwell and Gomez with you
