The biggest reason is the latent racism that prevails in Wigan.

Suave, intelligent foreigner? Easy target really, in Wigan

Racism!!!!! come on Griff it’s his ability as a manager people have a problem with. He was idolised as a player so may be it’s not racism :o :o :o

And I have, it costs me £500 a season to watch this crap so I would say I’m entitled to my opinion. And as I have already stated being a supporter does not mean you are not entitled to voice your disapproval if your not happy with how the club is being run.

bet you’l be one of the first flys to drop if we get relegated

I have had a season ticket since being a junior at Springy so as bad as it gets I’ll still be there. I’m a supporter but that does not mean I have to be happy with everything that goes on at the Tics

No idea how to put it on here, but it basically told of our rise to the Premiership from 1995, when Whelan took over. It documented the different managers, and told of our progress, the signing of the ‘Three Amigos’, etc.
Chuck in a few Whelan quotes of him “having a word with the lads” after a 5-1 defeat at Wrexham, and mention of him ‘breaking his leg in the cup final’ and you get the idea. It went on to tell of our move to the (then) JJB Stadium.
It was fairly standard stuff, talking about our rise to the top, with comments from people such as Mr Whelan, Graham Barrow, Paul Jewell, and Roberto Martinez. The key part came towards the end, where Whelan was quoted as saying “If Roberto goes, then I go as well”, and he said that “Even if we go down, we’ll try and get promoted next season, WITH Roberto”.

It was quite a good article, not patronizing and didn’t have any sly digs about our crowds, or anything, as far as I can remember.

That Vat is why people don’t like Whelan. Our crowds are dropping like a lead balloon because of all the dross we have watched under Bob and that clown comes out with a statement like Bob will stay even if we go down.
I’m sure he will be very happy when were back to 3000 fans then he can blame the people of Wigan for not supporting him.

At a football match you want to be entertained and even more important win. I wish Whelan and Bob could grasp the concept.

I had a good think about this, and decided not to bother.

I couldn’t pick a straight 11, without leaving players out who I wanted to include. And how do you compare a good third division player, with a Premiership player?

I couldn’t choose.

Regarding SIMON HAWORTH, don’t forget he did score some great goals for us. One that sticks in my mind is his strike at Wrexham, in the Auto windscreens Northern final. Belting goal in about the second minute.

I always rated Simon Howarth thought he was a good goal scorer and all round player. His problem was he did not run round like a headless chicken chasing every ball and was branded lazy.

I dont yet they are doing considerably better than us ? Why is that ?
Looking at their squad again, I think it is their strikers that swing this poser for me ! The rest of the squad is on a par with ours. On saying that, they have only scored about 6 more than us ? Therefore I will conclude that their manager and his backroom staff have some decent defensive know how and that they can get players who are of a similar standard to ours to do a job !

So, in a nutshell, is Bruce better than Martinez?
Hell yes, just look at there records while in charge of the Tic’s. :o :o :o
Er, yes……AND no.

Consider the squad Bruce had at his disposal. It included the likes of Valencia, Palacios, Cattermole, Bramble, as well as Heskey, for part of the time, and an explosive half a season from Zaki.
The first half of Bruce’s full season with us, saw us looking quite good, in patches, but also dire in others. I literally fell asleep at one match, something I’ve never done before or since.
We got to January, looking like Europa League contenders, and then came the departures. Heskey went, Palacios went, and we all knew Valencia was leaving. Our form totally dipped, and we finished the season in relegation form, if anything. It was no surprise really, when Bruce jumped ship. I actually think he had been ‘tapped up’ by Sunderland months earlier.
So, in came Roberto. By that point, Valencia had gone. Soon after, Cattermole wanted to leave, and departed. I think Roberto had planned on building the team around him as well, as I remember the friendly at Preston, when Cattermole controlled the middle, and we looked great. What a blow early on for Roberto.

Then of course, in the summer, Bramble went the same way, which wasn’t a shock, as it was debatable whether or not he was up to the style we wre now playing.

Given all this, I think it’s unfair to compare Bruce and Martinez.
Vat they were players Bruce signed except Valencia and not for loads of money. And not all his signings were great we did sign some squad fillers but compare that team to Bob’s full of his signings.

The Chuckle brothers, Scotland, Gomez, Ronnie Stam, Di Santo the Spanish centre half who played in the cup games last year. Absolute shoite and he probably spent more than Bruce did so IMO we can compare the two and it would be Bruce for me every day of the week.

’I don’t know why you bother coming on here moaning and complaining about things all the time. Ok, so we might go down. I’m not bothered. Be nice if we could stay up, but it will be tight. And who would we replace Roberto with? Can you name ONE genuine, viable, candidate? I can’t. The guy obvipously has genuine feelings for the club. So he left Swansea to come to us? yes, because of his history with us, and the fact we are a higher club. if he ended up being headhunted by someone like Liverpool or United in the futuire, then I would wish him all the best.’

Said that a week ago i’d have pi$$ed meself laughing.
I just wish more of the moaners and martinez haters would come round.
I often get frustrated with his tactics and his ten minute substitutions, but when i look back, could any of us do any better.
he loves the club and wants the best for the club, and he wouldnt leave us for a mid table team like bruce did.
it would be a miracle if we stayed up, but we’ve done it 5 times before, so why not 6?

I get FRUSTRATED with tactics, and things he does, at times. Believe it or not, United fans do with Fergie, Everton fans do with Moyes, and I bet Spurs fans do with Redknapp. That’s what football is about. It was only a few weeks since that Arsenal fans were slagging Wenger off, as well!
I don’t quite share his confidence that we will stay up, and I do believe he can’t half talk a good game and definitely put good spin on things.

But i realise how lucky we are to have someone with genuine passion for the club, rather than someone like Bruce who see’s us a ‘stepping stone’. Even Paul Jewell couldn’t see beyond us being a small club, almost lucky to be playing in the top flight.

Roberto see’s us on an even keel, andf despite his little foibles, I am willing to get behind him, in the hope that his long term plans come to fruition. If we CAN stay up, it’ll be interesting to see how we move on from it.

Like JayT said to me at Anfield, it’s like he’s got a plan, and so far, what he has said, he’s basically achieved. he has now said that “after these next 12 games, we won’t look back”, and whilst that’s a hell of a statement for him to make, if we can just manage to stay up, then it’ll be interesting.

He’s playing a very tight gamble, though.
Vat if Bob does manage to turn things round and we start winning games and doing well he will be off like Bruce. Anyone who thinks differently is a fool, Bob will use us as a stepping stone like all the rest.

Well he is shoite and I’m sure with signings like that people will be flocking back to the DW to watch us play. Especially if worst case senario we go down.

The pitch is non league standard. Sorry worse. Nothing to do with being built on a boggy area, drains or anything else.
Simply dowmn to the fact that it isnt rested and worked on over the summer months.

Sorry Donny but that is not true. When the JJB Stadium was being planned the arcitects told Whelan that being at the side of the Duggy the pitch would have to be raised as the water table was going to be at pitch level. This would have cost millions more so Whelan in his infinite wisdom decided against it. And the rest as they say is history every time we get a lot of rain the Duggy rises and the pitch holds water and we need to re-lay it.

Must have cost him millions in the long run with new surfaces must be wishing he had done it right in the first place, eh.
