We definitely need some width, and some midfielders with as much appetite as Morsy. You can tell, too, that the left and right backs are under strict instructions to stay in their own halves and not overlap. The net result is we’re not getting the ball into the box anywhere quick enough. Only our corners and central defenders have improved since Joyce came along.
My team for Sat would be:
Gilks
Connolly Warnock
Tunnicliffe Morsy Perkins
Obertan Bogle Grigg
(Though to be honest, there isn’t much to choose from)
If you look at both their goals last night you’ll see both Warnock & Connolly were out of position. Too high up the pitch, and that is happening a lot of late, especially with Warnock!
We need to get back to basics and have a flat back four. Playing 2 wingbacks is costing us dear at the moment.
When I was really young I liked Wigan Rugby, cos it was Wigan, my town.
Then in my late teens I hated them as they did nothing but take the pish out of latics, with them being superior and all that.
Now I’m older I don’t really care about them, but still love most things Wigan.
Was with a lad from Sheffield this week who believe it or not supports Wigan rugby, and was driving over for tomorrows match. He took the micky large about Wigan being a rugby town. Now I’m older I just laughed it off.
There is a reason tics fans dislike the rugby lot.I really hope that the floating fans all turn up for this and make it a great atmosphere. With 4700 of their giddy lot getting behind the team we need and early goal (followed by 3 more) to shut them up and hopefully give a reason for those floaters to come back next Saturday.
I think it has been mentioned here somewhere else, but the next 6 (possibly 7) games are all winnable and our crowds need play their part.
Maybe about 3 or 4 hundred floaters turned up Jayt but don’t think that performance would bring them back.
Good atmosphere though, like being at an away match at times. You’re not wrong, only 7 homes games left, where’s these season gone!
I’d just settle for it tasting like lager.:) Very true Egg. I’ve not purchased a pint for ages at the ground.
More frustration for me donny… We couldn’t pass water today and offered Preston their best chances.
It was entertaining for a nil nil, and atmosphere was great, best all season. But nothing on target to note i think? These last two or three performances bother me as we don’t look composed, it was like watching head tennis at times today.
Ref was shocking today, soft pen for them & two waved away for us. Don’t know what that lines man was watching when Bogle was wrestled to the floor!
Ps, Gilkes is looking better with every game.
How many points do you reckon we’ll get (seeing we need 6)
I’ll go for an optimistic 6
I will go for a realistic 6. We definitely need them!
Thought you two were being too optimistic when I first read this.. half way there and I hope you’re bang on with your predictions.
Can’t help but feel we were a bit lucky last night. Bit more luck on Saturday and that just might be the catalyst we need. The managers decide if the pitch is to be watered, not the groundsman.Didn’t know that. If that is the case Warren needs leave it to the people who should know best.
You could see the thread bare bits were soaked at half time against Norwich and mud was flicking up when players were running.. I’m no expert but I know a wet pitch tears up easily.January transfer window saw the club reduce their wage bill… mmmm Is that a positive thing?
Our pitch is in poor condition, but it hasn’t contributed to the poor results..
Whilst we are on about it though, I think the groundsman needs the shove imo. We seem to have this problem year in year out. The constant watering of the pitch before the match & at half time doesn’t help. A threadbare pitch doesn’t need watering at half time and this contributes to the muddy patches we’ve now got.
Dreading the rugby starting to play on it now as well..
Our paddy field of a pitch could be a good leveler tomorrow night though.
Bet we’ll be watering it before kick off !
And at half time??? Never understood why they feel the need to drench it so much.
Rugby starts soon so it will be a proper mess soon, and it won’t be their fault by the way.Ref is Peter Bankes.
Games 25, yellows 93, reds 10!That is a scary stat… On the plus side, we’ve had him once before at Leeds and not one yellow or red produced.. Let’s hope it’s the same again.
Love your optimism Jammyc. You know the last time we scored 3 was in August!! Such a long time ago now :(
JimmyC I just have this feeling that Norwich will be the game, 3-1 is where my thoughts are.
Very long time though, was it against Blackburn and Forest wasn’t it, with the Forest match still ending in defeat by 4 goals to 3 if i’m not mistaken.
(We won a friendly 4-3 aswell didn’t we? Fleetwood if I am also not mistaken again).
Spot on Jammyc, and I missed both of them…. :( (can’t recall the friendly?)
Hope your right & I’m wrong! Got to catch Burton.Love your optimism Jammyc. You know the last time we scored 3 was in August!! Such a long time ago now :(
My recollection of Obertan is that he wasn’t very good? so I’m not expecting much from him. Hope he proves me wrong.
Our transfer windows are a bit like groundhog day, a lot of midfield signings.. -
