Does anyone know why the announcer doesn’t read out the Half Time Scores anymore? I have emailed the club, but as usual heard nothing back  Would rather hear the half time scores than watch that inane game that goes on during half time. On a par with the WORLD FAMOUS  crossbar Challenge. Bring back the dancing girls ;)
Good point, but i quite enjoy the half time entertainment. Especially when the pitch is soaked :)
Could accommodate both.Positives:
I liked the idea of being selfish.
Negatives:
Both our goals game from crossing the ball into the box from the wing. Let’s hope GC saw that.
Well i am a little apprehensive for the future of our club, but i’m not as sceptical as you YH. Dave may have protected himself, but even if he has, then i’ll still say THANKS.
We maybe nearly be back where we started, but it’s not been a bad journey has it.
If Dave is teaching is grandson the art of business then that can only be a good thing for WAFC. Let’s just hope young David has the same conviction of his granddad, and gets us back to the Championship this season!PS, as good as it is seeing Bolton struggle, not so sure it is wise to gloat about their plight?
If you think our two centre midfielders pushed up way too far we r in trouble and yes I am talking about perkins he gives nothing only sideway and back passes his forward passes seem to reach the opposition 90% of the time and before you say he works hard I agree he runs about all dayDon’t get me wrong i’m not saying he is a good player, his work ethic is the only quality he has. But he seems to kop for a lot of grief when for me others are equally as bad, if not worse.
At one point in the first half we had five in a line up front & five in a line at the back with nothing in the middle. GC was tactically poor again today. The Latics are now a League One team after Owen Coyle, Uwe Rösler and Malky Mackay all failed to stop the rot that followed relegation from the top flight just days after the Cup final. According to Gary Caldwell, “the whole club lost its identity” during the ensuing slide – and the task now facing the former club captain is to rebuild it as Wigan’s fourth manager since Martinez’s departure.
Just wonder why they say “the rot that set in following the relegation”. Surely this rot had set in whilst we were in The Premier League and should include Roberto amongst the list of managers.
A more accurate description however would not be a rot as this decline came as all these managers struggled within the financial restraints that had been put on them from above and to give credit here to Bob for him to have kept us in there whilst under those restraints was a job well done.
The article could and should have made comparisons with Latics who have suffered the consequences of having to live within their means and the situation that can arise like it has at Bolton if a club goes along with its head in the sand.
Interesting to hear GC’s wishes and hopes for what he wants to do with Latics but this will only happen by living within our means this time and rightly so. We have had a brilliant journey financed by Whelan and Sky’s handouts and it was fantastic. Let us now show the football world we can do it again but this time starting with a secure financial base that GC has been left to work within even if this doesn’t happen overnight. Are you on the wind-up, or do you actually believe that?
Under Martinez we beat the likes of United, Arsenal , Chelsea, City and Liverpool and won the FA Cup! Hardly a ‘rot’ setting in.
We survived by the skin of our teeth in Jewell’s second season, and looked to be heading that way again toward the end of Bruce’s time with us. Martinez’s distinction was that he managed us in the Premier League longer than his predecessors, and the inevitable relegation took place when he was in charge.
Yes, there were stricter financial constraints under Martinez, but the ‘rot’ they’re referring to is the core of an FA Cup winning squad failing to perform in the Championship and ultimately getting relegated.
Steve Bruce’s second season with us was our most comfortable season in the prem I think Standish. We were safe with a few games to go if I remember rightly.
Like I have said on numerous occasions if we come up against a midfield which are willing to come at us like they did today three times they broke through the middle from the halfway line without a challenge our middle two are just not good enough and for our player of the season you are really having a laughI couldn’t work our formation out at times today. On more than one occasion we had two lines of players, defence & up front. Midfield pushed up far to much which left big holes in midfield.
If you are referring to Perkins, then I think it’s a bit harsh to single him out. There were much worse players than him. Jacobs was woeful again today, couldn’t pass water.Very few positives today. GC seems to be reverting back to his cautious ways again? It’s hard work watching us at the moment and if GC carries on then the crowds will drop even more.
Great opportunity for a trip to Wembley thrown away today..Very true Egg, but we should beat these men no worries. Even though we are in a bit of a sticky patch.
Saw a picture on Instagram of our away following today, 560 I believe. Fantastic following, well done to them.
Definitely hope so MR B, from what i have seen of teams in this league so far, no reason why we can’t. If being honest was disappointed when GC was appointed, what with him having no previous experience & me wanting us back in the Championship. That said i am hoping he is a quick learner, and takes us up whether it be as champions, runners up or via play off’s.
I will say it again our two centre midfielders are too square of each other and don’t fill the box when we go forward unlike Burton when they scored they had four in the box waiting for that goalI see what you are referring to PSKL about midfield, but if you look at Perkins as an individual player, then for me it’s hard to pick fault with him.
Quality in this league is defo scarce, but i thought he had a good game against Burton. Never stopped, like a little terrier in midfield and puts his body in front of the ball. Exactly what every team needs, IMOPS, CL main mon, any chance you can prevent key board warriors copying & pasting this comment?
You gotta laugh really, an anonymous cherry en white keyboard warrior does a copy & paste of some comments from a WAFC forum. He / She obviously thinks they are in a position to start lording it over their landlords, again.
This cherry en white knows more about our transfer figures than most WAFC fans, i suspect :blush:Burton are a very average side with little creativity but they had an excellent game-plan and were extremely well drilled. They starved our creative players of the ball and exposed the frailties of Daniels, Chow and also Gary Caldwell.
I hope Gary will watch the recording of the match over again so that he can learn from the defeat and come up with a way to deal with well-drilled spoilers.
This match was a real test of Gary’s progress – He was against a top Manager and I feel he came off second best by quite a distance.
Couldn’t agree more, JFH got his tactics spot on. GC got his wrong, and didn’t know how to turn it around, against a team with very average players.
That game was crying out for a change at 20minutes, was surprised there were no changes for the second half. The continual passing out from the back against a team who defended from the front was our biggest problem. We sat so deep in the first half, you’d see 15 passes before we even got to the half way line. It was evident players weren’t comfortable with the ball. Corners were terrible, Jacobs couldn’t beat the first man, so then we resorted to taking short ones??
Don’t think we deserved to lose, & Burton are not a team i’d like to see at the DW every week. GC needs a plan ‘B’ in his locker as if teams keep coming here with that mentality it could be a long season.
To be honest that’s what surprised me the most last night.
If Caldwell has impressed me anywhere it’s in his ability to see where things aren’t working & change it for the better – he’s done it at half time on numerous occasions so far.
Last night he surprised me by sticking with the exact same starting line up as the one which had laboured to a win against Shrewsbury on Saturday when it was clear that it didn’t work particularly well.
Then on top of that, when it was clearly struggling again against Burton it surprised me that he didn’t mix things up at the start of the second half & waited too long to make changes in the second half itself. So I think that he’s got plan B,s C’s & D’s, it was just for whatever reason he seemed reluctant to use those last night
It’s hard to be over-critical when the team hasn’t lost for so long but he got it wrong last night & I hope he’s done what he’s done before & learned from those mistakes
That is a good point and one that i have said myself. My comments were more based on the style of footy played (which i didn’t mention) sometimes you need to change your approach and not just the players. To see the keeper kick it long would have taken pressure of the defenders , the midfield to hit it over the top for us to run on to and put their defence under a bit of pressure. Nothing is guaranteed, but worth a go.
Was honestly expecting a good game of footy with Burton as they did (or so i thought) have a reputation of being a playing side, but instead parked the bus, cheated & time wasted!!Burton are a very average side with little creativity but they had an excellent game-plan and were extremely well drilled. They starved our creative players of the ball and exposed the frailties of Daniels, Chow and also Gary Caldwell.I hope Gary will watch the recording of the match over again so that he can learn from the defeat and come up with a way to deal with well-drilled spoilers.

Coventry City could now be our biggest crowd on current form. Sheffield are out of sorts and this will affect their travelling away support. Let us hope some of the 2000 or so from last season who have dropped off start to return too.2000, our gates are over 4k down on last season, on average.
