9 points adrift and counting!

What a journey!Where is the statistical proof?
Which club smaller than us or on a similar budget have achieved what we have and continue to punch above their weight a decade later?
Which of these clubs are in the solid financial state that we are?
Wigan Athletic are not in a solid financial state, They are in the black because Whelan is in charge. When he goes, You watch that plummet into debt, far worse than 1995.
If i gave you a million pounds you would be worth a million pounds. Once Whelan takes all the loot Wigan Athletic will be worth sod all and then he will evict the club from the stadium. he will somehow try to get back into Rugby no doubt now Sky have started pumping money into it. It’s an easy ‘in’ for someone like Whelan to get involved in a sport such as Rugby League
oh but we are in a good financial state!!!
First of all the stadium… this is owned by Wigan Athletic Football club with a written clause that our lodgers are our tenants and have a long term lease.
If Whelan goes what do you expect to change? :huh:The club itself is in good order and reported a slight profit when releasing the latest accounts. This season, the wage bill has been slashed beyond recognition, the cloth is being cut to our current plight.
If Whelan goes what do you expect to change? :huh:If I give you £70m and then write that debt totally off, you have gained £70m.
If Whelan goes what do you expect to change? :huh:You have got one thing right, the club are in the black 100% because Whelan is in charge. That’s what the man does best, uses his business acumen to make money and keep his ship in order. Anyone taking over the club will not need to secure any loans to pay off debtors, the books are well and truly balanced. It will be like you moving into a new house with the mortgage already payed and all you have to do is find enough income to pay the bills and maintain the property.
If Whelan goes what do you expect to change? :huh:As for the stuff you put about the rugby, everyone knows its a dying sport and is not sustainable. I think Big Dave has more chance of asking Mike Ashley to go in partnership with him than entering into any new business deals with Wigan Warriors.
There are people on this board who understand and appreciate that Wigan Athletic Football Club have been expertly managed by DW this past decade or so. They also appreciate and understand why DW has not thrown stupid money around putting his business at risk, he’s left that kamikaze approach to the likes of Harry Redknapp and co.
Yes some investment has been wasted on players, the likes of Bosselli and Holt are two good examples of that, but what about all the apprentices he’s brought to the club for peanuts, then got his managers to show um the ropes and then sold um on for profits you couldn’t imagine.
That is why we are in this current financial position and why even when he’s left the building, our club will be sustainable be it in the Championship, League 1, league 2 or dare I say itThe Football Conference league. The Premier League.

What a journey! The ‘spin’ started straight after the game on the other thread. We’re shitter now (squad wise) than we were before by some margin and there’s still no evidence to support the previous players were trying any less than the lads yesterday.
It’s just a case of having to face up to what we’ve got now and stop raving about new starts, great signings and suchlike, before they’ve kicked a ball.
This is Malkys team and it’s not very good, neither is he and that’s the bottom line.
p.s I think Delort would have scored McKays chance yesterday ;) keep smiling folks
And where is the evidence to support your claim that Delort would have scored the Billy Mac chance?

What a journey! You were at the right game ? It was men against boys .Sometimes you just have to admit when we have been completely out played. That was the very phrase that I used today at half time. They looked two leagues above us, men always in space, passing firm and accurate, all knowing what they had to do, an unbelievable workman like, never giving an inch centre forward and every battle was won by a Cherrie.
The positives for me were Herd, Clarke, Ojoe and the never say die attitude, especially when we went 3-0 down.
If we had played a Rotherham or a Huddersfield today, I’m sure we’d have won by 2 or 3.
I doff my kep to you Mr Howe, you have a fantastic team and work ethic, I hope you storm this league and give your current team a chance to play in it, rather than import a set of prima donas.

What a journey! We saw how well Maloney played for Scotland then was at best lacklustre for us. No need to spill the beans with him.

What a journey!Delort will be banging them in soon enough, Dicko is and Riera thought good enough to play up front on his own against Barcelona of all teams in the best league in the world.
Only good enough for a bit int Latics reserves though eh? Says more about our management and backroom teams to me and them not having a clue, possibly only playing their favourites.
Will you stop banging on about Delort!
Yes, he will be scoring goals again – back in the French second division because he wasn’t good enough to make it over here.
There hasn’t exactly been a clamour of clubs looking to sign him from us has there?
I’m taking it that you have extremely poor eyesight otherwise you’ll have seen how poor Delort has been. He’s started or come on as a sub in 11 games, and not once have I thought he showed anything that might suggest he’ll turn out to be a good signing. He looked, cocky, greedy and too lightweight – in my opinion, obviously, but I’m not a football genius or gifted judge of potential – unlike yourself.
Dicko was deemed not good enough by Martinez, Coyle and Rosler. So all three of them were clueless?
Dean Saunders didn’t rate him Wolves first time round and only used him a handful of times as a sub. Also for a majority of his time at Blackpool he was used as a sub by Holloway.
Hardly glowing references, but well done to him for scoring goals so many at Wolves. That’s the way it goes sometimes. A bit like Ellington with us compared to when he went to West Brom.
And so what if Riera played up front on his own against Barcelona. Deportivo are 14th in La Liga – so they’re currently on a par with the likes of Sunderland, Crystal Palace or West Brom. Adrian Lopez and Albert Crusat both played regularly in La Liga – and they were roaring successes at Wigan weren’t they?
(Incidentally, weren’t you criticising Wigan for playing Riera up front by himself – despite him having played as a lone striker for most of his career?)
And as for that comment about Wigan managers only playing their favourites…..
You do realise it’s not an under 9s team don’t you? The manager isn’t there to give everyone a game so they keep turning up on Sunday mornings. Of course they play their favourites. They do whatever they think is necessary to bring out the best in their squad – even it means dropping a technically excellent player on the basis that his attitude or personality is disruptive. That’s the way it works.
I don’t know why you bother responding to this idiot Jonny.
Idiot?
Sammy, please don’t get all big and brave behind a keyboard because we rarely agree. I can’t recall calling you any names or suchlike.
It says more about you than me and to be honest I’ve got hands like spades not a mouth like a bucket.
As for Delort not being bombarded with offers Loudmouthblue has it spot on and it negates your argument Standish. I merely use Delort amongst others as an example of our failings in utilising goalscorers to the best of their ability.
As I’ve stated previously, I hope they don’t do that with our 5ft 7″ new striker and the journeyman Clarke.
I can’t see how this factual argument, can bring along such a rant disagreeing with it.
How tall do you have to be to score goals? I give you Mr Lionel Messi your honour.

What a journey!I understand where they are coming from, but 18 days is a reasonable amount of time for a player to recover from a back injury. If it had been a few days or even a week to 10 days later, I could have understood their complaints.
I hate West Ham with a vengeance, but don’t think they will cop for anything here, after all, they did win us the world cup you know.
