So what’s the news on these 2 ? I’d like bet that with both Delort & Riera’s it’s all about if their loan clubs Deportivo and Tours can beat the drop.
GC has been saying today that both these lads are welcome back if they want to bust a gut for WAFC. Whether they want to is another matter.

What a journey!Fil, i found your reply to my post very fascinating indeed. I apologise for getting it wrong about your length of time supporting the tics, but your statement about deciding to come down one day when weekends became available – !!!!!!!. It sounds like you was looking through the leagues looking for a football club & thought, “Ah, wigan look like they’re on the up, just had a recent promotion, doing well in div 1/championship, ambitions of getting into the prem. Yes , that is who i will support.”
You then say that fans such as yourself are more passionate & less accepting of our current predicament than the “older brigade”. Do you think we are happy about how this season has panned out & the soap opera circus that has accompanied it. I will bet the answer is a resounding no. But, us older supporters have seen times far worse than this , so whilst not happy, just simply accept it & move on. One example of a dark fay was when i chucked in 20p of my pocket money(a lot in those days) so i could contribute in paying a players wages. Years later i chucked in even more money to help keep this club (i love so much & am deeply passionate about) alive. & as for passion fil, you should sit next to me on a matchday. I bet i share the same passion now as i did as a 6 year old kid back in 1978.
The fact is fil, you are supposed to support a club through both its good times & its bad ones. You IMO have only witnessed good times throughout your tenure as a supporter, albeit this season & already you are spitting out your dummy & debating on renewing your season ticket. As JR said, you are a classic case of a JCL. Fil, a football club is for life, not just for xmas & certainly not for good times only.
BTW, welcome back griff!!
My brother and his mates had been going on since 82 and I tagged along one day, no scrolling through the leagues to see who was doing well or the like!!
As for the passionate stuff, I’m not sure how long you have to have been a supporter to be passionate but my point was that some of the more passionate fans speak out whilst some of the less passionate ones seem accepting of the slump but that is nothing to do with what they witnessed back in the really dark days. Some of the fans who have been on here venting their spleen have been fans for decades. They have also seen the dark days but this season wasn’t anything like the dark days, this was a completely different scenario!
Now the spitting out of the dummy as you choose to call it. I have said that I am not happy with the club’s latest decision which I happen to think will be another massive faux pas. I am not happy about what I have been told re reverting back to the Martinez way of football and so on the back of this season just gone I am not sure whether I will renew. One of my mates stopped coming on because he had a grievance with the way things were going and he is one of the 1982 crew, is he a JCL? Season tickets are expensive and when you fork out over £300 for something that with hindsight turned out to be in my opinion a complete waste of money then forgive me for being wary of wasting even more money! Just how many ‘Real fans’ are there then? Will it take a couple more relegations to find out? I was meant to jump ship as soon as we went down from the Prem according to some ‘Real fans’! I will say this one last time, I have not made a decision yet on renewing but the reason for this is not because we got relegated and I spat my dummy out as you say, it is because I too have a grievance with the club, just like my mate did and whether I have been coming 12 years or 32 years it is surely my prerogative! If I decide to walk away this season then I will be deemed a JCL but was I not one to start with? The thing is I have never been accepted as a proper fan despite buying a season ticket for 11 continuous seasons! I had no real affiliation with any other club prior to supporting Wigan, supporting is when you pay to see them is it not? and I definitely do not secretly follow one of the big time charlie clubs! I wonder how many out there leapt out of their chairs fist pumping the air when Ole Gunnar Solskjær stuck out his leg in the 99 Champions League final? Be honest and don’t say it was because they beat the Germans either! ha ha
At the end of the day, I could have said nothing and made my decision without any of you knowing but I have come on here for several years now, I was a member of the old version and so even though many have never thought of me as a fan, I do think that I am a fan and I have always spoke my mind and yeah sometimes it is utter bollocks that I spout because I flit between wind ups and sincerity, this is the latter!
Fil, I agree with you with regards the fact that it is completely irrelevant how long an individual has supported (or been a fan of) the tics. However, the gripe I have with you (& in some respects, with people who you know) is the fact that you & they have thrown in the towel or are about to by becoming disillusioned with how things are run at wigan athletic. As I wrote in my previous post, a football club is for life & as a supporter/fan, one must stick by that club through both the good times & bad. Anyway, whether you decide to stay or stop coming, it won’t matter one jot to me. I’ll be there no matter what.
& for the record, although I have been a wigan supporter all my life, I did pump the air with my fist when ole gunnar solskjar stuck out his leg, as I did when dudek pulled off his grobbelaar impersonations in 2005 & likewise when drogba put away the crucial penalty a couple of seasons ago. Basically, I support ALL English clubs in Europe irrespective of who they are – I even cheered on Bolton
in their Europa league campaign.
Shame on you re Bolton! Listen, I am disillusioned that the ambition of a few seasons ago seems to have all but gone! The austerity measures that were put in place were a little premature in my opinion and I got the impression that the towel had been thrown in way too early! As for the man at the top DW, some of his decisions and actions have been shocking!
I know deep down that I will be there next season but at this present moment in time I have no confidence in the club!
Now isn’t that much better than saying you may turn your back on the club. That is what all the fuss has been about on this thread.
I obviously don’t know your financial status and don’t want to, but how can you say you don’t like the fact of wasting £300 on a season ticket, when that’s only about 20 houses or about 4-5 hours work a year for you. B)
You are not dabbling with them horses again are you Fil?
:PFrom Matlock to ManU
What a journey!Minus 25 goal difference and just 39 goals scored in 46 matches! Only Blackpool scored fewer and that was only 3 less! Great season! I still find it difficult to understand why so many of our fans accepted everything that has gone on without a whimper? Blind faith at its most extreme ! I am not being funny but I will watching the transfer market with a very keen eye for the next few months because I do not want to waste ( very apt adjective! ) my money on a season ticket if I think it will be more of the same! A good idea could be to see how they start next season, say for the first 5 or 6 games before stumping up your hard earned cash because I have a feeling that this rot will continue!
&, fil, if the rot continues i will still be supporting my club no matter what. Like JR i have seen periods a hell of a lot worse than this season. You should have been there in the early 90’s, which from what you have posted in the past you wasnt as you have only supported this club for (is it) 10 years now & have yet, haven’t seen the bad times. However, the idea of supporting a football team is to support it through its tough times as well as the good times. This season has been shit & if it continues next season i will still be there no matter what, & in my case, work permitting.
It’s 12 yrs since I started paying to come on when my Saturday afternoons became free for various reasons! Now the reasons for the previous bad times are not the same reasons as this time and this time could have easily been avoided and should have! My beef is with the way things are going when they shouldn’t be, doing everything on the cheap whilst increasing season ticket prices ( Twice since the drop ) and the latest managerial acquisition just happens to be a much maligned player who many on here have slated to fuck left right and centre yet now he is the king pin! None of it makes sense to me! The return to the Martinez possession at all costs football is a main concern for me as a paying fan/customer ( same thing! ) because I fuckin hated that shit the first time around and I do not want to waste my money watching that shit again, especially after this seasons pathetic efforts! That style of football is not going to work in League One! If I decide not to renew which will be the first time since my first match it won’t be because I am turning my back on the club because they have been relegated, it will be because I don’t agree with the way things are being done/run, that is my prerogative and if the blind faith loyal think that is a sham then so be it but I ain’t no fool! I shall see what happens during the Summer months and probably see how the season goes initially before forking out £300+! Some will think of me as a fair weather supporter but they are wrong, I for one am making a personal stance because everyone else seems to think that it is the norm when clearly the stats say otherwise!
Turning your back on the club for ANY reason means you are not a true supporter Fil.I’m sorry but that’s how it is. Ask yourself, would you come back watching them if they started playing well, winning games etc…if the answer is yes, then you are a classic Johnny cum fucking Lately!!
I suggest you invest a bit more money and get a season ticket for united or City, if its classy football you want and demand to see week in week out.
The priority for Wigan athletic football club is and should always be keeping the books balanced, otherwise we have no feking club. It’s not a great position to be in, but I fully understand why we will be investing in young blood and signing the likes of Billy Clarke next season and not Jordan Rhodes.

What a journey!Blackpool fans certainly shoe their displeasure where our fans have just accepted and seem not even angry at our situation. Probably one of the worst seasons we have ever had. What good has it done them? As it kept them up?, did it bring um 3 points? Did it make them feel better? Once they sober up I bet they will feel loads better  .
All the daft tvvats who ran onto the field will probably be identified and banned from Bloomfield Rd. Yeh fekin great way of showing your disprovable, lets all go and run on to the DW pitch tonight stark bollock naked chanting anti Whelan songs.
We are relegated, we ALL agree we’ve been crap this season, Ok lets all move on FFS….
One of the worst seasons we’ve had is it? Well I for one have personally endured far worse seasons than this, believe me. In order to enjoy and appreciate the good times, you must have already suffered some bad times IMO.

What a journey!A few years ago ,2010 to be precise I was lucky enough to be in New York and sat nicely in a bar chewing the fat to some American Latics fans who knew all about the club.
This was due to our worldwide profile at the time by being in the top flight.
When you have achieved that level of profile it is very difficult to get excited about fleet wood and burton at home and I cannot understand the mentality of people who think it is acceptable for a club with a huge turnover to get relegated so quickly.
It took 8 years to get out of the lower divisions last time and may take a lot longer now!
Far harder to take when you have eaten at the top table and it could have been avoided so easily.Nobody has said its acceptable to get relegated so quickly, this is about sticking by your club through thick and thin and being grown up about it.
I suggest that this mentality is what good supporters should have. If I was interviewing a person who has applied to be a fan of my club, the first thing I’d be saying is, “you know there are going to be some ups and downs, so its not always going to be a good ride, you will have to take some awful results and performances”. If they didn’t accept that fact, I’d be saying…”next”
As for huge turnover, surely you are old and wise enough to understand that money doesn’t guarantee you success, it should I agree, but the fact is it doesn’t and that’s been the case for as long as football was invented.
OK you can talk about Man city and Chelsea buying success, but what about the money Newcastle have spent, Villa, even the likes of Portsmouth and Leeds etc.I hope it doesn’t take 8 years for us to get back in the championship or even the Prem, but if it does so be it, I’ll have a little moan here and their, maybe a big moan once in a while, but I wont beat myself up like some of you are doing on here, it doesn’t make good reading, honestly it doesn’t.
I can see if we lose our opening game next season, this board will be awash with feckin Victor Meldrews. :lol:From Matlock to ManU
What a journey! All I can sense here is the Johnny big Bolux attitude. We didn’t and don’t have a god given right to play in the premier league or the championship.
For a club of our size and history we have surpassed all our dreams, I’ve loved every second of it and boy do I want us to get back up there.
There are hundreds if not thousands of reasons why we have fallen so dramatically these past couple of seasons and its not down to just bad management, playing one up front, changing managers, buying shyte players.
To highlight one or two things and even individuals is being very short sighted. This landslide has not just happened to us, its actually quite common, look at City, Newcastle, Leeds, Wolves, Sheff Wednesday, Notts Forrest, Portsmouth etc etc. Sheffield United played in the premiership in its inaugural year, look where they have been presiding since we sent them down at Brammel Lane several years ago.
I’m that much a latics fan, if they lose, its ruined my weekend, my missus has fallen out with me loads of times cos I’ve chosen to go watching Wigan away at places like Southend, instead of attending a relatives wedding. That’s how much this club means to me. I was watching SSN on Tuesday stomach turning upside down as reports came in from the Rotherham match. I spent around 4 grand watching every game home and away in our first season in the prem. I’ve been to Netherfield, Great Harwood,South Shields, Stafford Rangers, Bradford Park Avenue etc watching um with 20 odd others. I have lost count of the times I’ve had fights with Rugby fans who have tried to take the piss about our crowds, I could go on and on, but you should get where I’m coming from by now.
Now that the dust has settled and our fate has been sealed, I’m actually beginning to look forward to next season. Whats the point in dwelling on whats happened it wont make you feel better it will just beat you up.I feel positive vibes about David Sharp and Gary Caldwell, they both seem passionate about our club. No doubt we will see massive changes in personnel between now and August, some that gets us excited, some that doesn’t, but what ever happens, Wigan Athletic will be running out at the DW next season with an ambition to win games. That’s what they want, that’s what we want, that’s what they tried to do last season and the many seasons before. We can’t predict what will happen, but that’s football for you, if it was a predictable as picking the top 4 clubs in the premier league, it would be boring.
We know many of you feel bitter about what’s happened this season, you don’t need to flood every thread with it, lets get Saturday over with, take a nice break and come back next season with fresh hope. Whether you pack um in or not, the club will still roll on, Mr Whelan has made sure that we are a sustainable club whether you love him or hate him.
BELIEVE!!!Fuckin hell, you’ve changed your tune! You had a meltdown of epic proportions when Martinez left us and said he should have stayed and righted his relegation wrong by taking us back up again! You were most confident of us doing very well in The Championship and thought that our squad was more than adequate to challenge for promotion so why the little club mentality all of a sudden and acceptance of the fuckin shambles of this season? This roll over lay down attitude isn’t good, it isn’t good at all! You will be endorsing League Two next and saying that this is what we really are if we are ever unfortunate enough to go back there! Non league football could potentially have some of our old skool fans quite literally creaming their y fronts!
I had a melt down did I? Melt down is defined in your last post, I had views on RM leaving us when he did and still do. That will not change, but it won’t affect the way I feel about my club. I just dusted myself down and got behind the next manager and the next and the next… It’s Wigan Athletic Football club I support and not a chairman, a style of play, the manager, the players, the kit man, the pitch, the media etc..
We could be playing 11 down and outs in a mustard shirt with pink dots in the conference League 27 and I would support um and would want them to do well.
There were people on here who were willing them to go down from the prem, others putting money on um to be relegated from the championship, some clodding season tickets on to the pitch FFS. Well I’m sorry, I just don’t recognise them as supporters in the true sense of the word. It might just be my personal standards, but I realise everyone is entitled to do and say what they want, even if it comes across as being childish and dolls out the pramish.

What a journey!Riera scored the equaliser for Deportivo against Malaga at weekend, the game finished 1-1.
I don’t think he was given enough time TBH by Rosler, he looked like he was improving quite well, then was abandoned for some reason.
He’s scored 4 goals this season in 16 games, so not pulling up trees, but that ratio still puts him ahead of anything we’ve got.Not sure about Delort, but again, given no game time after being thrown in too soon at the Blackburn game at Ewood.

What a journey!Well Clarke was left out. Not good enough for an average Wolves side but deemed good enough for us. Wolves didn’t play a left sider upfront on his own with their average strikers on the bench but we did in a do or die match. We had all the possession as an home club lining up like we did should but an average Wolves side win.
There for the taking but given the win with negative tactic s before a ball was kicked.
We want our club back! We want real football!Did we not send Clarke back to Wolves a few weeks back due to him not being good enough FFS!. Short term contract withdrawn by mutual consent
