When we didn’t have 2 pennies to rub together (I’m talking pre DW era now not the Chinese gang or the Bahraini bandits), we accepted that’s how it was, difficult none the less.
Now we’re owned by one of the wealthiest men in the country it’s much harder to accept. Ok we soon got the message there would be no wild spending sprees, but given the owner’s circumstances, it’s not a lot to ask for funds to be made available for a half decent forward and creative midfielder. At least give us a chance to progress from the division (upwards) and above all else, play some attractive football.
I feel we’ve reached a pivotal moment in our season. Similar albeit a different division to 2 years ago around this time of year.
Is it glass half full and we will start to score more consistently whilst staying solid in defence leading to a play off position or is it glass half empty and we start to leak goals whilst not scoring consistently and it’s the relegation zone very soon?
Time will tell, sadly I’m not optimistic given Maloney’s negative tactics…hope to be wrong!
Anyone still forking out for that fans fund bo**ocks needs their head testing.
I totally agree that the club feels dead from the feet up. Club has no soul. It’s nothing like the club we were, only in name and badge. It’s awful.
+1
Putting it diplomatically, the club is in an unknown length of “managed” decline, on and off the pitch.
Putting it bluntly, it’s death by a thousand cuts.
The Chinese Gang and the Bahraini Bandits tried to throw us off the cliff; this lot are dragging out the death throes, or so it feels.
Tuesday night was our lowest league attendance for 21 years (Covid era aside of course). I dread to think what next Tuesday will be like if we lose on Saturday.
I know many ST holders who did renew who are admitting privately they thought twice about renewing and are now wishing they hadn’t.
The heart and sole of the club have been taken from us. We survived, prospered then survived again against the odds because of what we are as a club. Our sole, our heart and passion. Take that away there’s nothing left.
Never mind the Future Fund or whatever it’s called, what’s all this about a loyalty scheme? We’ve always had a loyalty scheme FFS, it’s called a season ticket! This loyalty scheme feels like yet another example of the ownership treating us not as loyal supporters but as a commodity to make money out of. The importance of the season ticket seems to keep being diminished to the point I’m not sorry I quit and became a follower from the comfort of my armchair.
We need a CEO appointed asap. No excuses why this hasn’t happened by now. Even a director of football type figure would be a help.
Danson wants to stay in the background. His money, his choice. But that rarely ends well without a figurehead in charge day to day who the fans can relate to and respect. People laughed at Brenda but we could do with her now.
I know I’m not alone in fearing that before long, we’ll hear the worst of all world’s news, that Radlinski’s duties are being widened.
Trouble with Maloney is he’s spent too much time playing under Martinez; who started this tippy tappy one up front nonsense.
He (Bobby) when he first arrived, was trying to play Champions League football, with Championship players, on a non-league pitch. Everyone except him could see it didn’t work.
Fast forward 15 years we’ve got his disciple trying to play Champions League football, with non-league players on a Championship pitch.
Verdict? Well the pitch is better than it was 15 years ago.
It’s early in the season for the cliches, but Saturday is already a must win game. Or at the very least, a much more attacking intent. Maloney will lose the crowd very soon otherwise. Sad, but inevitable without a change of direction.
“Well said Skeggy. Listen folks, if you’re not happy supporting Wigan Athletic (ie a club who is not City, Liverpool et al), then kindly leave your moaning elsewhere & feck off! UTT through thick & thin.”
Inappropriate to compare season ticket holders of 10-20-30+ years with the JCL types who haven’t been seen since the days of Coyle or Mackay.
Just when it couldn’t get any worse for the club off the field, seems anyone who has renewed by card will need to be very careful.
The way this Fans Fund thing has been set up is a mistake. As CW says, there’s potential for division between ST holders and FF members over ticket priority.
Most, although not all, FF members will be ST holders as well. So why not just have a “standard” ST as usual with certain benefits then a “premium” ST for £150 more or whatever, to include the youth funding donation and additional benefits over and above the standard ST?
No conflict then, pay your money and take your choice of which ST you go for.
Someone asked me why I was walking away from renewing just because of the debacle last game. It goes much deeper than that sadly.
This season gone has felt totally different from any other for me in the last 20 years. Hard to describe, but the club feels cold somehow nowadays, not the welcoming place it always was.
Take the stewarding. It used to be the same people regularly, many you knew by name, now they’re random strangers who treat you like an inconvenience.
Obviously the style of play didn’t help either, nor did the fixture congestion caused by the international postponements; 3 homes games in a week in late January FFS!
Sad to say but for me going to the games felt like a chore, not something I spent all week looking forward to. Even under the Chinese Gang and the Bahraini Bandits, the club still had it’s character. Now I’m not sure what it has.
Danson’s a quiet chap who wants to stay in the background. No problem, his money his choice. But the club is crying out for visible leadership off the field or I really do fear for the future.
I know from discussions I’m not alone. Many others who’ve been loyal ST holders for 10-20-30-40+ years are seriously questioning whether to renew or not this year.
Not sure if I’m renewing either. I’ve emailed club on 2 occasions….no reply. Was given email feedback@wiganathletic.com…..maybe that’s duff !!!I had simple question regarding senior citizens discount. 60 years and above for rugby 65 and above for football. Same ownership….seems unfair to me. Sent polite email…..nothing. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to this being correct email address. Agree about the feel a present…….I feel as if the club I knew is being eroded. Rudderless.
Thanks, I’ve used that email address as well as the info@wigan etc as well as the published ticket office email address.
Bottom line is the club have breached their contract with me and in the absence of a proper response I’m going to have to take legal action. That may be credit card “section 75” claim or county court breach of contract action.
Having supported the club through thick and thin, well ok, thin, over the last 5 years especially, how has it got to this? Why is the club so badly run? Who is actually running the ship day to day because I’d like a chat with them.
On the subject of season tickets I’ve asked this before including an email to club….no reply. Why is the senior citizen reduction applied only for age 65 and above for the football but for the Warriors it’s 60 and over?. Same ownership…….isn’t this discrimination?…..Or just unfair ?
