Even our “don’t lose” mentality & strategy failed today !
Keep saying it: but it is definitely our style of football that is our undoing.
On one noticeable occasion today, Clare receives the ball on the wing around the half way line and we are so static that his only option is sideways or backwards (reminds me of a game of chess). Whilst trying to decide, he loses it and Fleetwood romp into our box.
Keep saying this: why do we always struggle on a small pitch against a below average team ? We know that we will encounter this type of game at this level in the leagues; and still we persist with “our style”, to no avail. Got to be worth a total re-think and give something else a try. Our stubborn approach is really getting frustrating and boring; when we know that with a bit more adventurous style we could have been chasing the play off spots, despite our minus eight start. One swallow doesn’t make a summer; or so they say !
Better performance last night, because we pushed out in the first half and restricted their chances. In the second half, we started to revert to type and Bolton were starting to get on top; then a breakaway goal took the wind out of their sails.
Need to win on Saturday and build some momentum for a good finish to the season.I think the thought of them Bolton Knuckle Heads puts people who take young families off. Lots of blue lights and sprinting riot cops outside afterwards. The usual Bolton reaction, home & away !
I’ve thought for a couple of months now that SM really “talks up” the opposition to the point where he makes them sound like Real Madrid. It’s no wonder that our team have an over cautious approach.
For the Bolton game I’d be saying we have nowt to loose, whereas Bolton could be having a touch of the jitters; so lets’ give it our all and play a high tempo game and make it nervy & difficult for them.On the other hand SM could be saying, don’t worry if we loose; Saturday is a more important six pointer and since Fleetwood are World beaters we need to save ourselves for that encounter
Yes, I agree Phil; I wouldn’t have it any other way
But think about all that Negroamaro that I could have bought instead
Yep, we have our right to voice our opinion. It’s only like going to the cinema or going to a restaurant, then walking away and saying that was brilliant or crap.
Me and HORC must have a hundred combined years of watching our beloved Latics, so I think we are entitled to voice our opinions; but then our opinions are based upon observation and comparison, not too dissimilar to SM (you don’t have to have a professional football career to be a football pundit, i.e. the current flood of female commentators and Gary Lineker).I hate to think what we have spent, following the Latics, over a lifetime
A lot of us are thinking & agree with what CW has posted this morning.
It’s not rocket science, just common sense; so why doesn’t SM agree with the majority of us?
He only needs to watch Liverpool, who play possession football; but the catalyst for success is crisp and accurate passing at tempo. I would imagine that SM would have attended the Blackpool / Bolton game, so let’s hope the penny has dropped. Can’t disagree with your observations C.W.
Wish we had a “Graham Cavanagh” in midfield.
Nobody hardly got into our half when he was in midfield ! That’s when midfield used to be in and around that big circle on the pitch
Rang the ticket office yesterday (Thursday), and their reply was: “I think it could be tomorrow or even Friday” !!!
It must be me in a different time zone
Anway, they are on sale at 15:00pm today; in person at the ticket office.
Still no tickets on sale !
What is going on ????????If you also consider that we have let Luke Robinson, James Carragher & Harry McHugh go out on loan; who in my opinion could step up for more first team football and would put in a good shift, because they have something to prove and aim for !!!
If these boys (young men) aren’t ready in SM’s opinion, then they will never break into our team with his “risk averse” strategy. I find it sad that we do not give them any real chance.
So we’ll develop 2 out of every 100 juniors into first team material; give them 12 to 18 months football, then sell on in the hope of a big windfall, then start the process again. Is it worth the effort ?????
Lost for words after tonight.
Another Jeykll & Hyde performance against a distinctly average team.
Should be starting our own players before loanees, i.e. Jason Kerr, Jonny Smith.
Glad I didn’t book my train ticket for Shrewsbury !Maybe I’ll re-consider after Tuesday’s performance.
So would that be a change at Crewe ?
CW, you’ve hit the nail on it’s head with the “quick upstairs” remark.
We see very little of that amongst our team and if someone does make space for a game splitting pass, you can guarantee that we are still pissing about sideways and backwards.Correct Mr Bullitt
