    Yes CW, you are correct.
Meanwhile all the other clubs scouts are sniffing around our best prospects; leaving us with what ?

Bloody Hell Papa, your post was not far wrong.
Bloody typical Wigan, hope it’s not a serious injury and we’ve shot ourselves in the foot again !

Could of easily been 4-0 at half time.
Then second half we don’t keep the same momentum and good goalkeeping and their poor finishing kept us in front, bar about the last 10-15 mins when we stopped panicking.
Magennis did well and played a pivotal role IMO.

I’d like to see us throw men up front from the start; get in front by a couple of goals then use substitutes to shut the back door. We normally resort to a more direct attacking approach only when we are chasing the game.
I just hope that SM has not built this game up to the point that it’s a “must not lose game” and we try to defend our way to a sneaky win.

Guess we’ll know by 21:00 hour tonight.

Yep, and what do you get if you pay peanuts ?
We all know that answer !
Can’t see many “quality freebies” beating the door down to sign for the Latics.

We played a lot better at the end of last season in the Championship; after decimation of our resources and total uncertainty about our future existence, and it was only the points deduction that killed us off. Why did we play with spirit and endeavour. Answer: we adopted the siege mentality. We need to press that same button now, before it’s too late !

During last season we were forced to install Robinson at the back. IMO he did an admirable job and showed determination in every game that he played. Then as reward, we loan him out this season and fill his vacant role with injury prone players or players that are not turning out to be any significant improvement.

Okay it’s tough; and I’m not really moaning, I’m just so bloody frustrated and I do believe that SM’s post match briefings are starting to sound like excuses. The only trouble is that this subliminally infiltrates the player’s minds to the point were losing or drawing becomes acceptable. Even the supporters expectations are beginning to wane

Hello Cup Winners. Two very valid posts there !
The book definitely stops with SM and the commitment to the one style of football he plays. He needs to give his head a wobble and realise that we are in League 1 and not the Premier League.

On the car journey home I listened to Burnley Vs Liverpool on radio Lancashire and funnily enough the commentators said that a lot of the games in the Premier League tend to be slow and boring because of the possession football mentality, whereby they are patient and wait for that one clear cut opening. They actually went on to say that the games in the Championship are often a more exciting spectacle for the fans.

Maybe football as we knew it, is dead

Totally agree with Jr……my biggest pee off is exactly that…over analysing the opposition. This is league 1 ,not the Champions league…..too many changes instead of finding what works and sticking with it. Let them worry about us ffs.!!!

That’s the strategy that Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley & Ronnie Fagan used to adopt !
    And I fully agree.
Another dismal performance today.

Also agree with you JRFF :good: :good: :good:

There were quite a few occasions in the first half that Port Vale pressed us right back into our own goal area and we resorted to squaring the ball across our own 6 yard box, and creating more chaos. If they sat back any deeper they would have been on the terraces with us :negative: :negative: :negative:

It’s a trait from the Martinez coaching manual.
I remember getting beat 9-1 by Spurs at White Hart Lane and when Roberto spoke at the post match interview, in his first sentence he said that there were positive that he could take home from the game ! What !!!!!
I couldn’t think of any during a long arduous journey home.

Roberto is a Legend, but didn’t necessarily always say the right thing.

    Good Afternoon Cup Winners,
Just to show that I don’t always disagree with you, I think your comments are spot on today.
Yes, I went to the game and therefore witnessed the whole 97 minutes like yourself.

To add to the discussion: I don’t think Kell Watts is the same player as he was proving to be before his injury. Baba Adeeko, came in for a lot of criticism for their last goal, but to be fair to him, he took a good shove in the back when he failed to win the ball; but as you point out there was still two defenders beyond him who should have dealt with their No 10. Adeeko also put a fair shift in. When you watch their first two goals, I think Sessenong could have done a lot more against their No 10.

We need to shape up for next week !!!!!!!!!!!

Clare,Watts, absolutely shite. If J Smith in front of macmanaman I’m f###### dutch man. Too many away day embarrassments……1st half pitiful….if we went at teams from the off like 2nd half we’d be OK. Sorry but the buck stops at the manager. £25 for that dog shit…..thought Lincoln was wank…..getting no better.

    Did you go Rico ?
    I agree with your observations.
Yes, SM is to blame for me. Give him a massive pitch and a couple of fast wingers and what do we do – pass sideways then backwards and fail to capitalise on the oceans of space available. Penny dropped a little in the second half, but it was too late. It took us 47 mins in the first half to have a meaningful attempt on goal. Think we only crossed the half way line about three times in the first 35 mins.

No plan B in the locker,

Anyway CW, you are easier to wind up than a clockwork train; so I’ll pass one last comment and then put you back in the box.

If we do get a draw on the night, you’ll probably claim that Danson and his Utd buddies had it rigged so that we could share the spoils of greed

Sold out to the Mancs

Overheard Gary Neville in his restaurant at the Stock Exchange this lunch time.
