Stuggling to see why thinking that throwing racial abuse is wrong – and it was racial abuse – makes me a do gooder. I was brought up in Wigan but have lived 100 miles away for the last 20 years, I really want to be proud of my origins but last Sunday made it hard for me to feel anything but ashamed. Some people seem to be locked in the 1960’s. Get out more lads.
27 February 2010 at 11:42 pm in reply to: Probably the first post from someone who went today #24618Spot on. Decent players. Awful system. Little spirit. Relegation written all over situation. But….. there are some really bad sides in this league.Might just survive.
Bob, like Bruce, will have been offered £1 million to keep us up. He’s not likely to go because there is still a decent chance Portsnouth, Burnley. Wolves and Hull will do worse over the next few months. Blimey they’ll have to be bad to let us stay up.
It’s so sad but so obvious. The Peter Principle says that so may people are promoted beyond the level of their competence. This tragically is the case with RM. We don’t have the worst players but the spiritless, directionless rubbish we have seen this season is unacceptable and is clearly linked to the fact that RM didn’t play at the highest level, never won a sausage and never played under a manager with any real cred. Leadership is hard to measure but RM isn’t a natural leader at the gighest level. It’s a pity. Wish he was.
I came back frrom the game disappointed by a limp display and embarrassed by the idiotic fans. Forever Latic has it exactly right. They were shouting comments that have no place in a modern society and I had honestly hoped that most people would share my views.Sadly it appears that isn’t the case. To see people say that he was “asking for it” completely misses the point. “No racial abuse” is the rule and yet these idiots blatantly ignored it. It’s hard to be proud of a club that has fans who can behave like Nazis. I also find it amazing that others can suggest people who object should sit elsewhere. What morons.
It’s a naval town. They have to let the boat sink. Feel sad for the supporters but maybe it’ll make people appreciate that this nonsense can’t continue. They effectively cheated their way to an FA cup final and other clubs are cheating their way to Champions League finals. The English system is collapsing.
I don’t mind losing. It happens. But in 45 years of watching Wigan I can’t recall quite so many public humiliations. 9-1 v Spurs, 0-2 v County ( and I work in Nottingham !! ) plus several 4 and 5 0 hammerings. Surely this doesn’t need to continue. A few tweaks could make a real difference – b ut there’s few signs that RM can provide them.
Definitely need someone behind the scenes. The players are as good as most in bottom half of Premiership. A good coach could transform the season. There is lots of evidence they aren’t taking any notice of RM – and who can be surprised. Ever tried working for a boss who you don’t respect – and when he’s got 2 no mark deputies it’s even worse. DW won’t sack them but unless he brings in a new coach we’ll go down. Paul Hart could do the trick but the trouble is it’d undermine RM still more- and Dave won’t do that. I’d ask Arjan to put away his physio books and return.
I wouldn’t worry about that for a while.
Agree keeper did well. Point was there was a lack of familiarity in defence and given how much more secure it looked last week it was a surprise last week’s defence wasn’t kept together. Gomez a massive frustration.
First half totally inexcusable and was mainly due to fact that RM decided to experiment with an unknown keeper and a centre back who doesn’t understand the English mentality and was faced with Lee Hughes. Completely unbalanced what looked quite a stable unit at Wolves. The new African lad who came on in second half was better but still very risky. It was screaming out for the calm that Caldwell brought last week. Lucky to get away with it but there was big effort in second half and they looked as though they wanted it. Remember that Notts have signed a lot of the better players from the lower divisions and it was huge day for them.RM does keep doing things that make me scream though.
I think it would be either Man City in the 3rd round of the cup in 71 when I was little and thought the Latics would always be a non-league club – and wasn’t really bothered if they were – or the first Premiership match against Chelsea when the “new” ground was full, there were people from all over the world watching – and playing- and it honestly felt like I was dreaming.
It’s the return from Wembley. John Rogers last minute equaliser followed by an extra time winner (from Malcolm Leask ??)Les Rigby and Ian Gillibrand on bus. Is the lad with long hair Lee Koo – the Chinese bloke from Liverpool ?
Amazing how many blokes had ties on.
I’m assuming Kapo is on the sick.
As long as Kapo is on the books he’ll be the worst for me- regardless of whether he plays or not. But agree that Koumas gives him a run for his money.
