There’s a first time for everything so here goes: I agree with Donnys. Especially now that he’s stopped sending me Rosler Out texts and backed him to stay. For my money our best two up top would be Waghorn and Riera. I’d also play two wingers but I’d maybe sacrifice one to allow for Maloney or Edpinoza to roam wherever they wanted.
It’s perfectly acceptable to play one attacking and one defensive midfielder in a 4-4-2, and I was led to believe from Bees fans that Forshaw was more of a defensive midfielder.
Of course, another way of playing to our strengths would be to pack our midfield and play a 3-5-2. I’d go for
Carson
Figs Barnett Ramis
McLean Forshaw Maloney Kwist McManaman
Riera Waghorn
Granted, the two Mcs may need to work on their tackling if they were to play wing back
You need to do your maths homework, fella.
4-4-2 innit?
Carson
Figs Ramis Barnett Tavs
McLean Forshaw Maloney McMabanan
Waghorn Riera
I grant you that this means no room for the current golden boys, Espinoza
It’s time we utilised what we’ve got. If we played McManaman and McLean on the wings, Riera and Waghorn up front, and Maloney behind the front two, we’d waltz into the playoffs.
Now that I think of it, only picking Espinoza after it became public knowledge that he wanted to leave is another weird one.
Let’s hope not, or he’s in for a miserable couple of days
Seriously, what were the chances? Suggests to me that he’s getting desperate, or that Whelan had a word.
Sad thing is, though, playing 442 made no difference.
Time to go 4-4-2 (though I’d bare my arse in the Brick if he actually went and did it)
Carson
Taylor Ramis Barnett Tavernier
McManaman Forshaw Maloney McLean
Riera Waghorn
I think we need Tavernier for the width and the delivery, Barnett for his experience, and possibly the energy of Waghorn instead of Delort. I’d go for:
Carson
Taylor Ramis Barnett Tavernier
Huws Forshaw Maloney
McManaman Riera Waghorn
Away days at Griffin Park and Brisbane Road – a major positive
Defectors is a good pub but likely to be heaving. The Bull is in the middle of Westfield. Much more genteel, if characterless, but roomy and with decent beer. Took ages to get served upstairs last time. Shame the Springbok is home supporters only these days. That was a proper football pub.
Given that the West and East stands hold 7,500 apiece, even if there were 1,000 empty seats in each, with 3,500 from QPR and 1,009 in the South that comes to 17,500. No way was that 14,500 unless the crowds have been exaggerated upwards all season.
I can’t see the crowd being as low as some here are speculating for the following reasons:
1. ES2 is already full
2. We’ve always been well-supported in play-offs and, unlike in thugby, it’s a proper match without another chance to qualify the week after
3. 15,000 home fans against Blackpool
4. QPR should bring a fewI’m saying 17-18,000, which is fairly respectable.
And even in the second tier, another season comfortably eclipsing the lodgers’ support.
Bloody rubbish, Wigan.
I live in London. Where’s the free travel for me to get to the game? It’s gonna be at least £4 on my Oyster Card, not to mention £4 a pint in these parts.
Sort it out, Whelan.
The O’Neills and Walkabout are both still being done up and the very handy Springbok has been home supporters only for a couple of seasons. The Defector’s Weld on Uxbridge Road is probably the best pub in the area, though I know a lot of London Latics will be favouring The Bull, a surprisingly adequate boozer for its location in the middle of Westfield.
