Has Wembley got a retractable roof? im sure it was designed to keep every seat dry in wet weather without the roof closing. I know it doesnt work coz my mates got drenched watching the Baggies there.

I do not like a 5 man midfield one bit, imho it stifles the attack and invites a more positive team onto the offensive. I prefer the tried and trusted 2 banks of 4 with 2 up top. No matter how many you pack the midfield out with it only takes one intelligent through ball or even a huge punt over the top and the wing backs are out of position. I also think 4-4-2 gives you the whole width of the pitch from front to back whereas a middle 5 can leave the 3 centre backs stretched if the ball comes over the top. The wing back position in a 3-5-2 formation is a real specialist role and i dont think there are too many class acts at lesser clubs like ourselves unfortunately. I honestly believe that clubs like us who cannot afford the better players who can play these demanding roles and adapt to the varied formations are better playing the way we always used to and keep it simple. We need now to play in our opponents half and not our own and that means the ball needs to stick when it reaches our forwards so if we are going down then lets go out having a real go. Im no manager these are just my thoughts the way ive always enjoyed watching football.
Hugo is so wasteful he cost us yesterday just as much as the keeper ricket. We should have been 1-0 up had he not took the ball off the foot of a team mate who was in a better position to score then his effort near the end was pitiful. I dont see us scoring too many more goals with this guy in his present form.
To be honest over the years ive thought how far would we go what we may achieve. When i first became a Latics nut the pinnacle was to become a football league club i suppose, then it would be to play at Wembley and win a trophy. When this was achieved the pinnacle would have been to play in the top league and maybe play in a major cup final. What im saying is that this club has reached so many pinnacles in the past i dont doubt that for one minute we will better our recent record someday. Our past is what makes Wigan Athletic the greatest, our ability to succeed against the odds. I dont think any one of us can say for sure that we have hit the highest point in our history coz after over 40 yrs as a supporter nothing this club does anymore suprises me. ;)
I,ll be happy if they put the effort in and show a bit of spirit. We may not be able to outplay Citeh but we can match them by trying to outfight them. Just play for 90 mins and put a shift in boys its all we ask. :clap:
Well im buggered if i can understand Whelans mindset. He has performed the ultimate football miracle in getting this club into the top flight and keeping them there so long yet he does seem happy to let it all slip away now. Ive said it before that RM would have been sacked by now at any other club in Europe with his record but Dave is not budging. He plans to sell in a couple of years but even then surely it will be easier and more profitable to sell a Premiership club rather than League club so you would think he would be pulling out all the stops to ensure we survive. DW is a superlative buisnessman who has a proven record and who seems to have the Midas touch in whatever he turns his hand to which is why im so baffled by his blind faith in the present management team. Bobby was probably given the job on .sentiment which is always a recipe for disaster but with the right man behind him who knows what sort of manager he would be by now. Appointing Jones and Barrow was a total mistake and is a big part of the reason we are in the quagmire now
The sad thing is we seem to have accepted relegation from the chairman down. He is not going to change things in an attempt to keep us up he is not going to change things once we have gone. All the other clubs around us want it more than we do and are prepared to put in the effort where as we are just plodding along doing the same thing week in week out. Is it any wonder fans are staying away when the hierarchy look like they dont give a toss?. It no longer matters now whether Bobby stays or goes the damage has been done and the board are in no hurry to repair it.
