”Stoke showed that they aren’t the invisible all conquering team the media would have you believe they are”

Chelsea are invisible???????? The lads have got no chance then

We should be ok then, many of our lads have been invisible this season

in reply to: what odds on Torres scoring agaisnt us? #63143

Its the “Playing Wigan” syndrome, you just know its gonna happen bloody Torres.

Good debate boys and some good points made surely then on this take if you play 2 up instead of 1 then you increase your chances of making the ball stick and playing in your opponents half. We pack out midfield with 5 but it doesnt stop us conceding at an alarming rate. If you look back over the years 4-4-2 also seemed to allow midfielders to get amongst the goals often i,e Brian Robson David Platt etc who scored shed loads. I still believe you have to be blessed with quality throughout the side to play the more specialised 4-5-1 formation and your asking your sole forward to convert the few chances he may get at a high rate. Its difficult to call i know and wish it would pay off for RM i sincerely wish him the best of luck over the coming weeks.

Football is a results business end of and if you dont score you dont win games but tactics shape a game as well and can determine a teams destiny. I always prefer 2 forwards as i believe it gives the opposition more to think about and gives you more chance of keeping the ball. Imagine your playing us knowing we struggle to score and we always go 1 up top, obviously your gonna set up with a positive formation and go for it. Maybe if we changed occasionally we may have more joy but Bob is not for moving and will play his rigid formation even if we go down. Good managers know how and when to change tactics and are rewarded with results. We havent many chances left to get it right and i fear those around us will want it more than we do and will do anything it takes to get points on the board.

Nothing will ever make up for the 9-1 and if you think we are “gunna walk it” then you must have watched a different Latics to me this season. We dont score enough and we concede too easy to walk it against anyone. You have made a very bold statement there marrer I hope you aint left with egg on your face coz a 93rd minute scrappy own goal will do for me as long as its a Spurs player scoring it.

Man Utd aint done too bad over the last 20 odd years playing 4-4-2 with good wingers and using all the pitch. If you have quality players you can use different formations but how many world class wing backs are there? this makes 3-5-3 difficult to adapt to if you have journeymen players in your team.

Unfortunately if Spurs have aspirations of playing in the CL next season then this is a must win game for them. I cant see them winning it so they will be going all out for 4th place and Harry will have them up for this one .If we were to beat Spurs it would probably be the end of their chance so i expect a real battle and im worried to be honest.

Ferdinand is out injured so i dont see why the captains armband is going to make a reason for us losing. Terry was always gonna play if fit captain or not under the Italian clown. If we do not win this game it will be an embarrasment whoever skippers the side.

Martinez,Jones,Barrow and Liddell mmmmm definate pattern forming here. How long before its being touted that the next Latics manager will be Boyce,Moses or Macarthy

in reply to: A lot is said about Mr Whelan #62018

Ive questioned Dave Whelans running of the club for the past few seasons and his stubborn stance on the current management team but for christ sake lets have a reality check here. Without his backing

we would have been chucked out the league coz of the state of dear old Springy had we somehow found the money to continue to operate

we would not have won the div 4 title

we would not have won the auto windshields trophy

we would not have won the div 2 title with a landslide margin

we would not have won promotion from the championship at only the 2nd attempt

we would not have reached the Carling Cup final

we would have never have played in the Premier league beating Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and the likes

in all probability we would be back playing non-league football now coz thats how serious our plight was at the time instead of us going on one hell of a fairytale. We did all this because of Mr Whelan not despite him. He may not have the impact he had anymore but he deserves every Latics fans respect for giving us this dream we have all had.
