That whole team was something special boy did we have some good players back then. Proper football not pass for passing sake.

I agree wholeheartedly with that. One of my all time favourite latics teams that one. Such a shame we had to sell those players in order to keep the club alive. Had we not have had to sell them, i personally believe that team could have achieved more than the freight rover trophy.

You’re spot on there garswood. We dont need fickle fans at all. Like you, i will be there no matter what, even if we end up in the same league as runcorn town (& although this place is my adopted hometown, i have no idea what league they are in).

    and the media love him.

& he loves other peoples wives.

now get someone half decent in quick!

Straight-forward question. Who do you consider to be half decent.

Personally i would prefer someone to be DECENT as opposed to being half decent. Shame for GC as i would have liked him to turn it around. Still we move on!!!

Not scared to have a go at winning games.

My interpretation of that donny then is that GC goes out deliberately to lose or draw games.

Bit harsh on bogdan. He pulled off a cracking save in the 1st half when it looked certain the brighton lad was gonna score.

Caldwell out first, then we will see which managers want the job, I predict quite a few will apply.

Personally i dont want caldwell sacked, but im surprised no one has mentioned a former england manager yet.

in reply to: CALDWELL OUT! #151683

As i have mentioned on another thread, the problem at the moment is that whilst we are creating chances (& yes i admit we didn’t create many yesterday), we are not converting those chances. That is not caldwell’s fault. It is the players on the pitch who can’t convert. It makes no difference whatsoever whether we play with one striker, 2, 3, 4 or more. If we dont convert those chances we will struggle. & it is not solely grigg’s impetus to score all the time. There are 9 other outfield players to do that as well.

We have tightened up at the back. We could do nothing with that goal yesterday. Once it did go in, it was plain to see how the confidence just simply drained out of them. I agree that caldwell was at fault with his substitution immediately after the goal. I have already stated on another thread what i believe he should have done after the goal.

We as a team just need to start scoring goals, which we are not. & as i have stressed, that is not caldwells fault.

Please no Jones. Bobby mark 3.

So do you want mckay or coyle mark 2 then donny.

It’s the only thing the whelans trust and it let’s them keep the back room staff. For me bring sherwood in

Im confused. First you want jones in, then sherwood. What exactly do you think either will do. One isnt proven at managerial level, & the other has hardly set the world alight at management level.

in reply to: Boring Possession Football #151677

    1) To be fair lowey, possession style of football is way better than the kick long & hope for the best style of football. Possession football when played right can be very good to watch & the end product can be brilliant.

    2) Yesterday, however few chances we created, (& sometimes maybe give credit to the opposition for that) we are simply not taking those chances. Whichever style, formation or tactics a team sets out to play, football is about scoring one more goal than the opposition – which as i say we are not doing. Whether that is down to woeful shooting, an excellent save by the keeper, a shot just wide or hits the woodwork, the chances we are making are currently not being executed.

    3) IMO we dominated that game up until they scored. That one goal simply knocked the stuffing out of us. I could see that & i am sure so could others.

    4) Nick powell has been a disgrace (again IMO) since he returned to our club & i saw it as a blessing when he went off. Young byrne was brilliant when he came on. But if i had to name just one player who summed up the jonny big bollox in all of my 38 years watching latics, he would be it.

    5) Following their goal, caldwell should have quickly changed his mind & subbed either power or perkins & put lefondre on with grigg (who looked p155ed at being subbed). I agree, bringing davies on – & no disrespect to him, meant there was no place for a game changer ie, gomez. I agree, that, he did get wrong.

    6) Should we sack him. One word answer NO! IMO things just are not going right for us at the moment. We are playing ok, but as i said earlier, we need to start scoring. He has sorted us out defensively, but we now need to master the art of scoring goals & i do believe we will be alright once we have mastered that. I for one prefer caldwell’s style of football to that of bobby’s. Some might argue that it is entirely the same. Yes it is to a degree, but caldwell’s style is played at a quicker tempo. Bobby’s style bored me to tears.

& now, i await the backlash from the usual suspects ;)

in reply to: Bottom three caldwell #151639

To be fair, we DID create enough chances & played decent. One fluke goal (that could have gone anywhere) & confidence dropped after that.

My only negative was when caldwell took off grigg following the goal. IMO he should have took power or perkins off & brought on lefondre alongside grigg.

But i do agree. If this form continues i do wonder how patient mr sharpe will be.

Decent shot stopper but awful at everything else. How the hell is he keeping Jussi out the team?!!

Cos liverpool have that clause re loan players probably.

in reply to: What do you get when #151563

GC probably thought he could rest those 3 players as he may have thought the ones he put out could have done a job against burton. I expect those said 3 players to be back tonight.
