Sammy Young was offside in the first place so even though Derry pushed him in the back the first incident of offside should of been called surely

But they aren’t reviewing the offside, are they? The appeal by QPR is to challenge the sending-off.

Thanks for that, you on the other hand are the most modest person I’ve ever came into interaction with.

Come on Duke. If you’re going to have a cyber-spat with Griff your grammar will have to be better than that!

Lost his appeal. How for Gods sake?

The entire football community say it was wrong – The FA disagree.

          What chance have we got?

They don’t like admitting they’re wrong especially after all the controversy over the other mistakes made at the weekend so it had to be pretty much a nailed on error. Derry did have a hand on Young which was enough of an excuse for them not to rescind it.

Not too sure if you are right there Sammy – to the best of my recollection it was Steve Bennett

I thought it was Riley but I’ll stand corrected.

Edit: Aye, Steve Bennett it was. (you’ve made me look it up!)

It was cold and raining to be fair.

But it wasn’t on the telly.

Mike Riley apologises – fat lot of good it’ll do us though…

                Mike Riley apologises

I wonder if he’ll go further and tell Phil Dowd not to bottle it, like he did, should Scholes commit a second bookable offence tomorrow.

Banned for three games for his punch on Maloney. Brilliant – means he can’t play against QPR. Now how is that justice for us?

Has he? Can’t find any confirmation of this.

                    Babis’s message, or the watchtower?

                    Both

Sanctimonious? Nah, just a poor choice of analogy.

Anyway, I happen to think there is harm in the message!

I blame Figueroa. Had he not tried to block Torres’ volley and deflected it, which took the ball onto the post instead of past it for a goal-kick, then Chelsea wouldn’t have score.

I think having Dowd referee the game could work in our favour. He might be a bit more careful making the “important” decisions given his blunder at OT.

As far as I’m aware Latics have never played in the league (as in the football or premier league) against Morecamble, AFC Wimbledon, Crawley, Yeovil, Dagenham & Redbridge, Stevenage, Sheffield Wednesday, (the reformed) Aldershot, Accrington or Burton Albion.
As well as Southampton of course ;)

Now then Tyldesley you’re pretty accurate when it comes to this kind of thing but I’ll have to correct you on one of those. We played Aldershot in the 1981-82 season, the season we got promoted to the old 3rd division under Larry Lloyd. The reason I know this is because the club chartered a special train for the away match and a good few made the trip, including myself. It was the last match of the season and the week before we’d clinched promotion by beating Mansfield at home. The game was poor though and we lost 2-0. The journey back took forever. It’s was like I’d been on that train for my whole life.

Just noticed you’d put “reformed” Aldershot so apologies.

And I would count them all too, even if they went in off my left bollock while I was falling over!

And yes, I do think pele is the best there’s ever been, thanks for telling me that’s fine, I assumed it was ok for me to think that, but it’s good to have the confirmation. Remember, my opinion does count, it’s yours that doesn’t.

And I wasn’t trying to goad you, you’ve just got an inferiority complex, probably stemming from the fact that you are inferior.

Anyway, now weve decided that pele is in fact the best player ever, how can we make that Bobbys fault?

For what it’s worth I would also like to add my twopenneth and say that Pele is the best football player I’ve ever seen and my memory goes back further than most on here. George Best runs him a very close second.

Sammy,Dare I say it ( Again ! ) Its a catch 22 scenario ! Stay up and struggle again or go down and play on a more level playing field without the frills of the Prem ! I get slated for wanting to stay up and do well or better at least and I get slated for saying we are better off in Championship or League One !! The latter does seem to have a slight edge for me personally for the very reasons you give for problems faced in attracting players !!

I cannot understand why anyone would welcome relegation. Even if every season is a struggle and more of a struggle with each new season, the prestige of being in “The Premier League” defying all the odds with our meagre resources and upsetting all who think we shouldn’t be there, including the rugby lot, is reason enough. That said, I believe playing in the Championship would provide games that were more competitive and thereby more enjoyable.
However, it would be one big ask to expect to see PL football at the DW again not least because the will and desire that made it possible seven years ago is unlikely to be there again. If this is to be the end of the dream then enjoy it while you can.

Sammy I was referring to the ” January Transfer Window ” thread on here when every striker that was mentioned as a possible addition was swiftly knocked back for various reasons and so what difference will it make next season should we pull off the great escape ?

Well I hope this is not too radical a view but I think the opinions of the people who post on here have absolutely no bearing on who the club sign or don’t sign.
Unfortunately, trying to persuade players to play for Wigan Athletic rather than any of the other Premiership clubs and quite a few in the Championship must be one hell of a task. Surely you must have come to that realisation by now and the proof, if proof is needed, is staring you in the face from 19th place.
