Sadly there are a few Wigan fans knocking around, in both sports, that would rather the team failed so they could say ‘i told you so’, but me and Griff are not that type of fan. We would love Andy Delort or Oriol Riera to smash in the goals to save us but we just don’t think they’re the players to do it and considering the guy that signed them AND another Manager have left them both out points towards us being right……unfortunately for WAFC.
Fair point egg though how do you prove your worth if your not getting a chance?. Its a toughie I know and Malky has got a real job on his hands. Had Jimmy Greaves been evaluated on the training ground he would not have got further than Sunday League level. A lot of top pro’s have openly admitted that they could not be arsed in training. All we can do is hope Malky knows what he is doing and it eventually comes right for him.
Apart from the fact you have absolutely no idea if that is true.
As previously stated both Delort and Riera have now played under two different managers and neither of them have been impressed enough to give them an extended run in the team. Given the woeful performance of the strike-force so far that speaks volumes.
As for my own personal opinion, which carries far more weight than anybody else’s at the club based on a number of years playing in the Wigan Amateur League and 50 odd years watching, I have yet to be convinced either of them are any better than those currently favoured.
But what do I know?
Striker Andy Delort is another facing an uncertain future, with the Frenchman being linked with a move away just four months after joining from Tours.Despite scoring goals for the Development Squad in recent weeks – and with the first team struggling to find the mark – Delort has remained a fringe player.
“We put the players in the Development Squad to give them 90 minutes under their belt,” Mackay added.
“What I see in training every day is how I act in terms of team selection is concerned.
“The team I put out is the team I feel is going to do best for the club at that point.
“Everyone else has to be the best professional they can be and apply themselves as best they can to get involved in the future.”
Personally I go off what I see on the pitch, can you imagine some players over the years getting a game, if managers went off the training ground only?
Maybe they do it out of spite just to piss off the likes of yourself and others on here who think they know better.
I used to be a management trainer – yes, all this sort of claptrap even I didn’t believe in.Trust me – having someone like Dave Whelan in a course would have been a nightmare!!!!
Oh to be a fly on the wall of that one.
Haha. Well you’ve obviously never worked in professional sport! As if you can cancel a contract due to injury!
Explain how professional sport is different from any other employment in English law please.
If the injury is viewed as career threatening (just as any long term illness may be in ‘ordinary’ jobs) then the employer unilaterally can terminate the contract. And despite common belief, the penalty if it goes to ET is not the full value of the contract. Would you be paid up to pension age if you became too ill to work? The reason most clubs carry players with injury is that they hope they will recover and play a part in the future and pay back the investment. It is quite likely that salary is contractually reduced during lay-offs, just as anyone else’s pay is reduced if you are off sick. Contracts are softer in sport as a result of agents being involved, but in the eyes of the law they are the same as any other contract. Why do you think transfer negotiations take so long? It’s all these ‘what ifs’.
If sports contracts are so sacrosanct, then why do managers get sacked? And do you really think they have to be paid up the full amount due?
I worked in Harry Ramsdens apparently, so do know what I’m talking about.
ET? I thought he was a botanist not an employment lawyer?
No, NL. There’s no Satan.
Oh there is garswood but she went to work an hour ago. :P :P
Wow, you’re brave!
And egg, are you saying that the Area 51 theory is true?.
Blimey you will be telling me there is no Santa next.
Of course they went to the Moon.
How else could they have got a London bus up there?Well said Egg. Undecided on the last bit though about Whelan.
I wonder if our men ever get a Cloughie/Fergie type talking to and yes if we actually told a few things about what’s going on weight not be getting so frustrated.Whoosh….!

WELL MAYBE THEY BLOODY WELL SHOULD START SAYING THAT!!!THEY SHOULD START OUTING EACH PLAYER WHO HAS A BAD GAME AND SHOULD AIR ALL OUR DIRTY LAUNDRY IN PUBLIC SO US FANS KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON!!!!
WHELAN OUT!!!!!!!!
And would be an unconventional way of being removed from gainful employment.
Oh, here we go again…“I agree, Mr Jouranlist. We’re fucking shit, aren’t we? McManaman’s a tit, I think the two strikers that the last bloke bought are a pair of useless wankers and I really can’t see a chink of light at the end of the tunnel. We’re relegated already, no two ways about it”
… said no manager in a post-match interview, ever.
Although Rosler made a good attempt after the Bolton game.
In the same mould as Grant Holt? I sincerely hope not!
That Taylor is really poor defensively and we should have tried to keep Figueroa.
Why? So we could have two defensively poor left backs? I wouldn’t trust Figueroa to mark a bingo card.
Who else can play there? Defensively figs is better than Taylor, he looks nervous on the ball, makes too many mistakes and gets caught out of position a lot.
Yep that’s Figueroa alright.
I think it was some reference to a line manager in a cleaning company.
Well in my humble opinion McClean is not a striker and neither is Fortuné! Taylor is not a wing back and Kiernan isn’t ready for this level of football! Forshaw looked better tonight and McCann worked his socks off but Watson was poor!
Perhaps he should use the Bolton game to try something different with different players because I think we should maybe concentrate on Championship survival this season! I don’t know what else to say or suggest but tonight on the whole was pretty dire but I am getting used to it now as we haven’t won at home in 4 months!First half maybe, second half he took the art of becoming anonymous to a totally new level.
In the same way that nobody really knows how the substitution would have panned out. We could have gone on to score two or three in that 20 minutes, but will never know because some little scouse arrogant gobsh*te went and got himself sent off because he’s a petty little sh*t.F*ck off Callum and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Saying that, he’ll need someone to open the door for him the lazy pr*ck.
It must be frustrating for the lad to realise it’s only the second red card of his career when he puts so much effort into trying to make every tackle a red card offence.
