Bottom of this page
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ultimatewiga … gfield.htmI’ve had it on there for years ;)
I hope they give him a good platform to stand on :shock:He won’t change his style. He won’t be swayed by anyone.
Actually they were different events.
The France Under 18s played a one-off match against England at the JJB on 8 March 2000 and France won 3-0. Besides Mexes the French team also had Djibril Cisse.
England were: Kirkland(Coventry)(Bywater(West Ham)); Parnaby(Middlesbrough), Konchesky(Charlton), Halls(Arsenal), Clarke(Everton), Lloyd Samuel(Aston Villa), Defoe(West Ham)(Hamshaw(Sheff Wed)), McMaster(Leeds) (Brackstone(Middlesbrough)), Boothroyd(Arsenal)(Logan(Ipswich)), Noble(Arsenal), McSheffrey(Coventry)(Richardson(Leeds))
The tournament you are thinking about was an Under-17 three-way tournament between England, Italy and Brazil in July 2001. England-Italy and Brazil-Italy were at the JJB, while England-Brazil was at the Reebok.
Wayne Rooney was a sub for the England team – the only other “name” was Diego (then listed as Diego Cunha) who now plays for Wolfsburg, and scored against England a few years back.
The other “internationals” at the JJB was a single-night double-header at Under-16 level on 25 October 2001 when Germany played Holland and England played Spain. Ryan Babbel played for Holland.
The England team was Heaton(Man Utd); Nevins(Man Utd)(Smith(Chelsea)), Gillan(Bolton) (Martin(Derby)), Doyle(Derby), Pettigrew(Chelsea), Taylor(Newcastle), Bowditch(Ipswich), Leadbitter(Sunderland), Moore(Aston Villa), O’Hara(Arsenal), Forte(Sheff Utd), which perhaps goes to show that even if you are good enough to play for England at Under-16 it doesn’t mean you’re ever going to make the big time. I know some have made it into League teams, but if I had played for England I’d be dreaming of the stars….
Spot on, KTF.
Sagna, Nasri and Malouda, and the fourth was Mexes who played for France Under-18s v England.
Correct – Cambridge’s ground wasn’t up to standard (remember it was Cambridge City, a non-league team, not Cambridge United). It’s not got any better over the years:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal … 423974.stmIt’s not true by the way that we used the away dressing room.
Everything else – kit, programme etc – was as away team, but we insisted on having home (better) dressing room.
Quiz trivia – that win meant that Latics were the first away team to win a competitive football match at the JJB.
I wish Whelan would have a word regarding corners a la Rioch. The defending at corners is awful no one on either post, people being left unmarked etcWhy oh why oh why do we bring 11 men back into the box for corners?
The chances of ricochets etc is so much higher, and if we had one, two or even three men out of the box the other team would have to leave more out, and we have the chance of a breakaway.
And as for putting men on the post…
And as for short attacking corners…..
And as…..
Whelan has stated publically that he `wanted a big man up front`….
Victor Moses and Tom Cleverley are English.
And Latics don’t have an Academy as far as I’m aware, as there are a significant number of other clubs around that have them.
Oh – and am I happy being fourth from bottom of possibly the world’s highest profile sporting league – yes actually.
And as for crowds. Doesn’t bother me one bit. I was there – if others choose not to be that’s their prerogative.
They must of change the style for a change, jobsworths are mainly watching the young uns, stewards sh@t the selves many moons back when Millwall came in the playoffs, they wernt giving it the ten men im big attitude then, they were hideing behind the Police.  :roll:That’s extremely unfair comment.
The strategy was to have a line of police (in riot gear) to deal with the Millwall lot, and then a line of stewards behind to prevent any stray Latics fans who may have fancied a “do-or-die” raid.
If they’re told to do it then it’s not fair to say they were “hiding” behind the police.
As for me? I was extremely brave, behind the tunnel door – because we were told to keep that shut no matter what. ;)
“inherited debt” caused the problem apparently.
Inherited from where exactly?
So they start to complain about the principle of paying, maybe they should have done that in the last 10 years when the fees started to rise…
As I did, when they first introduced fees, by cancelling my membership of the Labour Party. Completely against all Socialist principles (if you don’t know what “socialism” is ask your grand-dad ;) )
Not even sure because it kept shutting then reopening, and they gutted the interior to what I thought was a mess. I think it is still open.
The Railway is still OK, with guest real ales :D

(BTW That 218 was quite good :) )
Everyone chanted the Roberts song – it gave him a good feeling.
And what did he do in return, may I ask?
Scored against us.
And if anyone says “but he didn’t celebrate” needs to get a reality check on what is important.
Not quite sure why we shouldn’t boo him – he plays for our next opponents, and no matter what he has done for us in the past is in the past. He will be wanting his current team to win, and we have do our bit to stop that.
Remember Ellington coming back? I think he really was such a huge part of us getting into the Premiership, a true legend, but when he came back for West Brom he was roundly barracked, was clearly upset, played badly and had to be subbed. That to me is a success for Latics.
You can praise him afterwards, but in that 90 minutes he is the enemy.
