There’s hardly any posting on here when we get a great result and play well. Compare how quiet the board is this week compared to last week after the Sheffield game.
Because a fair number of our supporters revel in having a good moan and saying ‘Told you so’ when we lose.
Like on Saturday when we’re 3-0 up and looking comfortable but some of the West Stand are screaming at Caldwell to ‘Get it sorted out’ because they’re passing the ball backward and sideways in order to keep possession rather lumping it forwards.
Unbelievable.
I hope he doesn’t go there as I have backed Aberdeen to win the Scottish Prem with a 10pt start! He is one of the worst players I have seen in recent years, talk about going AWOL! I remember Griff saying he rated him and me saying that I begged to differ, well we all know who was right now don’t we!I’ve defended him in the past Phil as he was rated at Cardiff and likewise at Inverness before that – so there’s obviously been a player in there as some point. He’s always been anonymous when he’s played for us – not doing a lot wrong, but actually not doing a lot in general.
But after having seen his contributions this season, capped with that performance on Tuesday, I’m guessing he either had a bang to head resulting in him forgetting how to play football, or he is actually the evil non-football-playing twin brother of Don Cowie and the real Don Cowie was tied up and dumped somewhere between Cardiff and Wigan.
Last Tuesday he looked like a supporter who had won a raffle to play in a real match.
Happy to see the back of him.
Cowie wouldn’t get in my team let alone Wigan and for Barrow Nuff said he should stick to plumbing. And Caldwell didn’t do himself any favours blaming nearly every player. He really needs to look at himself. And like I wrote before I didn’t call perkins last night nor am I blaming our result on one player coming off.No further questions
Nothing to do with perkins going off another bad decision by Caldwell when James came on he should of gone straight to left back and put Mcann cent midfield and replaced vudik with Jordi instead of the useless cowie. Also I wouldn’t of put yanic on tonight.
I know you have some unfounded hatred for Perkins, but did you actually watch the same game as me?
Vuckic was replaced by Wildschut, not Cowie. Cowie came on when Perkins went off – so it was a straight midfielder-for-midfielder swap.
Likewise, Wildschut replaced Vuckic in another like for like swap as he started off by playing with Jacobs just behind Grigg, but when they started to overrun midfield, Wildschut was sent out to the wing because he was doing bugger all to help out defensively in the middle.
I have not said a bad word about perkins tonight he was having a decent game until his injury and vuckic was knackered so all Caldwell had to do was bring on James to left back put mcann in place of perkins bring Jordi on for vuckic then with ten to go bring grigg off who again was knackered for yanic anyone with a football brain would of done that it’s not rocket science
Seriously? Caldwell, Joe Parkinson and Graham Barrow don’t have a football brain between them, but you do?McCann was having a good game at wingback – and his introduction there last Thursday instead of James was one of the catalysts for the win. So why, when a midfielder is injured and you have a like-for-like midfielder on the bench, start shuffling a team who have already scored three and are playing well – especially down the left?
Perkins was injured, and you have Cowie – a defensive midfielder on the bench. Straight swap.
Vuckic is injured and you have an attacking Wildschut – and attacking midfielder on the bench. Again, straight swap.
As it transpired Cowie had by far the his worst game in an already unremarkable and uneventful career, and Wildschut also looked woeful. But hindsight’s a wonderful thing.
No you might not have criticised Perkins, but predictably, you’re saying him going off wasn’t a major reason for the capitulation of the midfield that a good number have claimed it was.
Old enough to notice he got the right tools?.but some how making a job drag out?I can’t believe you took the bait there.Garswood.Maybe it’s because he’s been a manager for less than a season?
Not an expert on these things, but I reckon he’s doing a half decent job considering he’s a complete novice.

Any manager at 3 up would have brought on replacements, no issue with that. James should have gone to his natural position and McCann to his. Past that it was what we’ve done against teams all season and a taste of our own medicine.3-0 We think we’ve done enough. At 0-0 no way do they score that first goal, completely bone idle defending from all involved. 3-2 similar. For 3-3 a man who shouldn’t even be near the reserves gives the ball away and our ‘Ace’ Keeper does that thing that he did. We also missed a sitter at 3-2 between Grigg & Power. A lot when wrong from 3-0 and it was all in the mind. They shouldn’t have been able to finish like they did against a fit team either, after they took United all the way on Saturday night.
Freak performance, freak result. Get them in for extra training.
Agree completely.
For me, we need another decent central midfielder – because once Perkins came off and Cowie went on, we fell apart in the middle.
Plus we need a decent centre half.
Barnett needs to go. In a team where passing is the key element, he likes one vital skill: the ability to pass.
Just wondering if Yanick will start or not. If so what position does anyone think he will play. Seems like to be effective as a winger James would have to drop back to left back. Will he start at all? That may be the way with him making a substitute appearance. It’s going to be interesting. All could depend on Sheffields approach to the game and one thing as a substitute he is proven to be a game changer.Doubt that will happen as it would mean playing 4 at the back.
I’d start him where Kellett played last week – ie. just behind Grigg with Jacobs.
Hiwula meant the centre backs had someone else to pick up instead of two-ing up on Grigg.Watched the tv re-run this morning and both pundits said the same .We overplayed ,build up too slow and lone forward struggling without support. They put our turn around down to the substitutions and a more direct style……but I suppose they know eff all too…I thought that’s what I pretty much said!
‘…the sudden resurgence was caused by an increase in tempo – which came about by the two players brought on having more urgency, and more attacking intent about them’
As for 2 up front, we started with two strikers against Blackpool. And we all know how well that went!
The turnaround was f-all to do with suddenly playing two upfront in my opinion.
Rather than any interaction between two strikers, the sudden resurgence was caused by an increase in tempo – which came about by the two players brought on having more urgency, and more attacking intent about them.
Grigg will get goals if we get balls into the box (as Tez has said) from out-wide. Which brings me on to my only real gripe from last night….
James isn’t a wingback. He’s a decent, steady, left back.
He can’t beat a man, doesn’t cross and doesn’t push up high enough. He constantly looks to pass inside, and it usually slows things down. Daniels on the other hand, even though he’s a Centre Half, was getting past players down the right, pushing up and getting crosses in, and not by coincidence, most of our chances in the first half came from the right.
When McCann came on however, suddenly there was a threat down the left as well as the right.
I can only presume that Caldwell feels that James is better defensively – so that why he starts. Or maybe it’s the fact that we paid a million quid for him, so Caldwell feels he needs to justify that by playing him.
And for the record, I thought Perkins had a poor game last night and based on that, I’d start McCann there for the next one as I think Perkins could probably do with a rest.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly, almost word for word what I said at half time, ref Daniels, James and Perkins. James is probably my biggest disappointment, hasn’t gone past a player since very early part of the season, can defend though.
Likewise with James.
For me, he’s the biggest problem in that team at present.
As Caldwell is playing a similar system and style to Martinez, I keep thinking back to when Beausejour was playing on the left.
Yes he had his limitations, but he pressed forward at every opportunity, got crosses into the box, and even chipped in with the odd goal. Grigg would get chance after chance with a player like that.
With James you see nothing like that, and he reminds me of Gary Neville. He’d be decent in a 4-4-2 with an out and out winger in front of him, but he offers no threat whatsoever going forwards.

My mates, mate has a mate who is the lad doing the medical and he says he slipped a disc when he did cough n drop also didn’t like the finger up the arse but nobody knew Perkins was under the treatment tableHe’s from Amsterdam, so I’m guessing the finger up the arse will be nothing new.
Why add to this post then, Standish Wanker ?
Suggest you check out the other posts for the day; there is a subliminal win type post.
P.S did you go to Highbury ?
Don’t worry Lostock Fella, Standish Wally isn’t bright enough to spot it ! The definition of subliminal is: of a stimulus or mental process) below the threshold of sensation or consciousness; perceived by or affecting someone’s mind without their being aware of it.
Enough said.
‘Cod Army and chips’ is the subliminal post? You’re right, I can’t keep up with anything as high-brow as that.
But he does now.Who, you may ask.
Roberto, of course.
We (Wigan) won.
Post something about that instead.
Why we are not busting a guy to sign Yanic I have no idea. When he came on we created 5-6 clear chances from open play. It’s a real worry for me when he goes back as he gives us such a boost when he plays. How do you know we’re not?
And maybe today was another test to see how we can play without him, and what do we need to replace him.
