Delort will be banging them in soon enough, Dicko is and Riera thought good enough to play up front on his own against Barcelona of all teams in the best league in the world.
Only good enough for a bit int Latics reserves though eh? Says more about our management and backroom teams to me and them not having a clue, possibly only playing their favourites.
Will you stop banging on about Delort!
Yes, he will be scoring goals again – back in the French second division because he wasn’t good enough to make it over here.
There hasn’t exactly been a clamour of clubs looking to sign him from us has there?
I’m taking it that you have extremely poor eyesight otherwise you’ll have seen how poor Delort has been. He’s started or come on as a sub in 11 games, and not once have I thought he showed anything that might suggest he’ll turn out to be a good signing. He looked, cocky, greedy and too lightweight – in my opinion, obviously, but I’m not a football genius or gifted judge of potential – unlike yourself.
Dicko was deemed not good enough by Martinez, Coyle and Rosler. So all three of them were clueless?
Dean Saunders didn’t rate him Wolves first time round and only used him a handful of times as a sub. Also for a majority of his time at Blackpool he was used as a sub by Holloway.
Hardly glowing references, but well done to him for scoring goals so many at Wolves. That’s the way it goes sometimes. A bit like Ellington with us compared to when he went to West Brom.
And so what if Riera played up front on his own against Barcelona. Deportivo are 14th in La Liga – so they’re currently on a par with the likes of Sunderland, Crystal Palace or West Brom. Adrian Lopez and Albert Crusat both played regularly in La Liga – and they were roaring successes at Wigan weren’t they?
(Incidentally, weren’t you criticising Wigan for playing Riera up front by himself – despite him having played as a lone striker for most of his career?)
And as for that comment about Wigan managers only playing their favourites…..
You do realise it’s not an under 9s team don’t you? The manager isn’t there to give everyone a game so they keep turning up on Sunday mornings. Of course they play their favourites. They do whatever they think is necessary to bring out the best in their squad – even it means dropping a technically excellent player on the basis that his attitude or personality is disruptive. That’s the way it works.
I don’t know why you bother responding to this idiot Jonny.
Idiot?
Sammy, please don’t get all big and brave behind a keyboard because we rarely agree. I can’t recall calling you any names or suchlike.
It says more about you than me and to be honest I’ve got hands like spades not a mouth like a bucket.
As for Delort not being bombarded with offers Loudmouthblue has it spot on and it negates your argument Standish. I merely use Delort amongst others as an example of our failings in utilising goalscorers to the best of their ability.
As I’ve stated previously, I hope they don’t do that with our 5ft 7″ new striker and the journeyman Clarke.
I can’t see how this factual argument, can bring along such a rant disagreeing with it.
I’d forgotten about that FIFA rule, however it negates only the comment insinuating that nobody wanted to buy him, the rest of the post is still valid. Will you stop banging on about Delort!

That could be explained by the fact
mostall clubs that may have been possibly in the market for him know that because of the number of clubs he has played for this season he cannot play for anyone else other than us or his old club tours.
Fair point. I forgot about that.I stand by the rest of my post though.
Who did u expect us to sign we are bottom of the league
what about giving the 5-6 million pounds worth of forwards now on loan a proper chance and not 10 minures here and there ?
You talk like we had no option bar grab anybody to fill a gap .I shit bricks when it came up on sky sports that Roger Johnson had been released.
Id rather have had him for a striker than Clarke. What’s the point in spending all the money we’ve saved in Primark?
Someone on this thread said ‘looking good’ I would think there was a word missed out there and would wager it was ‘not’Just hope I’m wrong and the club have got this right.
The ‘saved’ money is accounted for – and it’s not for buying players with. So, on your second point – I’ll be putting my money on it being the club that have got it right rather than you. No offence.
From the pics I’ve seen he looks overjoyed to be here! Can’t blame him. He’s probably been reading your upbeat comments on this forum.

Sorry can’t agree with you…..yet.
So he’s played for a Highland Hillbilly XI and Northampton reserves.
From what I can gather from the ICT supporters he only started scoring when they stopped lumping the ball up to him on his own. Shouldn’t have took a rocket scientist as he’s a miniature. So if we play him with support and he does well it begs the question why did we have to wait for him to come along before we did it, if we play him on his own, like so many before, what was the point?
So to compare the 2 at the minute, without him kicking a ball for us and then saying ‘that’s the difference’ speaks volumes for the blind faith attitude on here from many and the scapegoat mentality of a WAFC supporter I.e Delort
I’m not talking about tactics. Simply little man v little man: I’d go for the one who performed well in the SPL over the one who performed well in the French Div 2 everytime.
All of the above squire. :PI just find it weird how this dwarf in footballing terms is being hailed as our next best thing and his vids look good when he’ll be played in the exact same way Delort was. Delorts goals and talent looks better than this mons on video imo, that’s all.
Delort’s played and scored in 2nd Divison French football – where defenders aren’t as quick as the Championship.
Mckay played and scored in the SPL – where defenders also aren’t as quick as the Championship.
However, he’ll have been elbowed, pushed and had lumps kicked out of him each week – unlike Delort, who doesn’t look robust enough in my opinion.
And that’s the difference.
Be interesting to see where everybody’s opinion lies after all the gold has gone and the scrap is left, MAlky would have had his transfer window and we’ll be left with what we’re left with, loans and cheap buys, meanwhile all of the lads who’ve left will be at teams in top divisions or looking at promotion. Strange. Most teams chuck a few quid at the situation to get out of it, we’ve gone the other way, most unusual, Whelan on his way out on his return from the sun imo
With respect, that’s a crock of shit in my opinion.
It was always going to be a case of getting loans in. We’re bottom of the Championship with a half empty stadium. Who of any quality would want to join us knowing there’s a good chance they’ll be in League One next season? Relegation threatened Premier League clubs might be able to attract permanent deals, but not us.
There’s more chance of getting a better standard of player on loan as they know that if we are relegated, they shake hands with Mackay, thank him for the experience and go back to their parent club.
And as for cheap buys…who, Billy McKay? Ross McCormack only cost Cardiff £120k in compensation and he didn’t do too badly for them,.
That’s the market we’re in. £4m strikers don’t want to permanently join a club who might be playing Crawley and Oldham next season.
In my opinion we’re going completely the right way about it in order to keep the club financially sound if the worst does happen.
Being linked with Max Power from Tranmere cue the puns
Could be the boost we need.

Obviously exhausted all other options.Reminds me of a piece that appeared on this forum a few years ago:

Can understand your example but footballers salaries just like football finances are in a bubble of their own and have become ridiculous and even at Championship clubs like Latics the 40, 15 and 12k p/a are weekly wages.
Wigan Athletic FC seem to be one of the few clubs who seem to try and keep the finances real. Compare us with Bolton and Blackburn and their ridiculous debt levels.
Good point though. Players are humans like everyone else all be it in their own different world.
The silence from Whelan is deafening! Closing down sale. Below par loan players brought in. Fans hardly raise an eyebrow let alone speak up. Does anybody care? What happened to those meet and greeters who were prepared to get to the ground early to let their feelings for the club show? About time some spoke up now to let those running the club know how we feel and I don’t mean a fans forum with 5 puddings nodding eagerly as Jonathon Jackson jerks em off in the home changing room! Why not start it here? How do you feel? And what do you think should be done about it?
I’m sure a couple of those ‘5 puddings’ might pick up on your comments and pass on to those running the club (Jonathan Jackson).
And therein lies my biggest problem, people saying what squad we now need to stay up. We had a squad at one point able to challenge for the league before disastrous decisions. We’re now getting rid of that and if we do stay up well be left with a bunch of cloggers in the main if Malky has his way, so what next year?
What a complete and utter fck up. This fire sale is appalling and everyone just sits back and says well it’s the type of team we need now.
Who is making the decisions really chippy lad on commission sales of players, maybe it’s the all knowing McKay who hasn’t won more than a match, maybe it’s whelan who’s getting some coin in before he coins out. Whatever is going on its fckin bad.Cool your jets champ.
At what point have I said ‘this is the type of squad we need’?
I said ‘I’d hazard a guess that Mackay wants a squad of players who’ll battle to stay up, and Forshaw and the others who have gone do not fit into that mould.’
He’s the manager, and it’s him who decides what type of player he wants.
Personally I liked the Martinez way, and would love to have a team playing their way out of trouble by keeping the ball on the floor. But we haven’t got Martinez anymore and therefore I can only surmise what Mackay and the club have in mind.
Forshaw is a scapegoat – beaten only in those stakes by Cowie.
I’ve lost count of the number of times mindless morons in the West Stand have berated him and jeered when he’s been substituted. And now it seems everyone actually rated him after all!
We don’t know the ins and outs of this deal (or even if it is actually going through) nor what or how we paid for Forshaw in the first place.
Myabe we paid X, with Y coming into effect after so many appearances. Who knows?
But, I very much doubt the club have thrown the towel in and are resigned to being in League One.
For one, dropping down to League One could lead to people losing their jobs, or at
the very least, having to take pay cuts.Secondly, Whelan still has a lot of money invested in the club, and even if the entire squad was sold, it would go nowhere near paying him back.
I’d hazard a guess that Mackay wants a squad of players who’ll battle to stay up, and Forshaw and the others who have gone do not fit into that mould.
All my opinion, obviously.
