Garswood, that’s a work of genius.
It’s shocking. The rugby lot filled em…..
Having now seen the auction live I would suggest that it is akin to bear-baiting – but slightly crueler.
I particularly enjoyed the faux confident look on bidders’ faces when they tried to pretend that they had just pulled off the coup of the evening while you could clearly see in their eyes “I’ve just paid how much…!?”
The feeling when you wake up in the morning after the auction and read your squad sheet is akin to that feeling when you wake up in a strange bed and can’t face turning over to see who’s next to you.[/quote]
Question: What do the following have in common?Suarez – banned
Mikail Smith – still injured. Out until November
Marlon King – unattached / going to jailAnswer: I bought them all for my team during the auction.
Seemed like bargains I couldn’t refuse on the night. That’s alcohol.
Thomas Cook usually do sports charter flights, might be worth a try .Thomas Cook only do it for clubs they’re contracted to, and they’re expensive.
LMB has it in hand. Details will be posted shortly.
You’d easy have enough interest if you went out Thursday am coming back Saurday or Sunday straight out of Manchester. I’d look at the cost of Graz v Ljubjiana too.It would be a good trip would be too expensive to charter an aircraft for that.
You would either have to pay for the aircraft to be out of operation for four days, or you’d have to pay for two return trips (there and back on Thursday, there and back on Sunday).
I have been in contact with a flight charter company for a couple of months, I use their freight department for shipping our equipment world wide so made contact as soon as we won the FA Cup, it was arranged that when we knew our destinations I would be back to see if we could sort out a deal.On Friday I approached them again with some further details on Monday, saying what we might need etc.
The flights are based on travel from Liverpool to Maribor direct, which happens to be about 10Km from the city/ground, returning straight after the game.
This is a copy of the quotation sent to me early this afternoon:-
Hi Xxxxxx,
Thanks for the email and call.
I have quoted 3 different aircraft the A320 (168 seats), B757 (202 seats) and B767 (265 seats) to give you various options. I have looked at a couple of rotations on the same aircraft and the problem that you will run into is the schedule, the first flight would need to depart at 0530 to allow the second flight to arrive at 1600 Local. The risk would be any small delay and the fans might be late for the match, I am happy to quote this if you still wanted to look at this option. The other thing to point out is the airport closes at 1800z but I am sure they would extend their opening hours but there would be a cost to this which I unfortunately do not have this at the moment. From experience other airports charge around £2000-£3000 to give you an idea.
In line with other football fan charters I have not included catering instead I have included a buy on board bar. Catering is an option for an extra charge.
Pricing as follows –

Thanks Karl
If you do the maths the average cost is between about £350 to £375 per seat dependant on which plane, it does not include any profit for the organisers, any insurance costs, the operator (me) would have to acquire ABTA bonding or take on an ABTA bonded partner to underwrite the liability, this is UK law if you are selling seats on to a third party(fans), there also could be fuel surcharge increases added to overall cost.
One thing that came out of this, the chap who I dealt with stated that they are not the cheapest in the market, that 2 other companies would be cheaper, I had already approached these companies, and hopefully something can be arranged to suit our pockets.
LMB
Those aircraft are all from the Titan Airways fleet – more commonly used to fly teams around rather than supporters. They are usually the most expensive on the market.
There are much cheaper options in the market.
If you want to charter and run your own mini tour operation, you need and ATOL licence not ABTA. (ABTA is for travel agents who sell on pre-packaged holdays and tours. ATOL is for companies who want to create their own tours), so if you’re serious about doing this, I can put in touch with the MD of the company that have been doing it for supporters of every club, the tartan army englandfans for the past twenty-odd years.
Let me know and I’ll put you in touch with him.
you are spot on griff why most people hate whelan but in my case completely way off
i worked for whelan and enjoyed my time doing so
i might call whelan a 2hat but does not mean i hate the guy
when you work ten years for a guy like whelan you get to know alll about
the person
and i know he wont do anything for nothing would you griff ? course you wouldnt you would be a liar if you said yesnunheaton spot on with what you said but whelan is now in reverse mode sell what he can get the parachute money then feck off to barbados the guys a 2hat
And what is used to pay the players’ wages?
I’d like to see him hide that in the books, new villa in Barbados may be,does that mean he’s off with 50 mil in his deep pocketsNope. He keeps it all in a biscuit tin under his desk.
Please tell me you are taking the p*ss? You don’t honestly think Whelan makes money from the club do you?
Yep, Whelan’s been stealing from the club for years. Didn’t you know?
They just make it look like the club’s been making a loss to fool the auditers.
Keeping hold of mr Maloney a player who wants to be with us, if he had left I would have been distraught, mccarthy going I can live with that :)For once Mr Wiganmon, I am in total agreement with you.
Shaun Maloney: the most gifted player ever to play for Wigan Athletic. My opinion, obviously, but I think I am right in my assessment.
For those a little damp behind the ears:
Fallaini joins United
Everton get confirmation of their money, so they up their offer for McCarthy
Wigan accept the offer and McCarthy signs for Everton
Hence the lateness of the deals
Wigan have already signed Powell on loan in anticipation of McCarthy going
Jordan Rhodes was never leaving Blackburn for another Championship side – as stated by the Blackburn CEO
Everton were linked with a deal for Rhodes to try to hurry Wigan up on the McCarthy deal
Either that or as usual everyone at Wigan is sat on their arse wondering what this transfer window thing is…
I agree People should realise to some playing football is a job. If your boss said to you “Hey you don’t need to work for the next three years and you will still get paid £30,000 a week” would you be bothered.“…but you’ll be overlooked, undervalued and generally pissed off that you’ll be sat on your arse and not doing something that’ll you’ve dreamt of doing since being a young lad…”
Yes, despite the money, a lot them of them are bothered.
Cor phew that’s a lot of moneyIt’s kos he’s worth it.
There seems to be a growing trend in setting off smoke bombs. Don’t see the point of it myselfThey’re just kidding themselves that it’s fun. On reflection, it’s all just smoke and mirrors.
Eh well i suppose he aint going to lose any sleep, hes prob still over the moonOr he may be as sick as a parrot. But let’s be honest, it’s a game of two halves and anyone can beat anyone in this league, and there are no easy games – unless they don’t have a plan B, don’t put a shift in, rely on ticka-tacka, too much route one, or the manager has lost the dressing room.
