I think eel be a great buy.
Seems that not everyone thinks he’s so bad
i hope your not saying whelan is a tight ass griff ;)You tell us bicky. You’re right up there. You love him.
It Will be more of the same for him next season. Erm roberto i think we should erm Jones im not going to look at you never mind take you on just get the sub board ready he’s going on in five half an hour later he’s readyI’d like to introduce you some of my friends: ; . ,
What on earth are you going on about?
Worst signings are Marlon King and Jason Koumas by a long chalk in my opinion. Boselli played well in the earlier rounds of the FA Cup last season – including the game against West Ham.
Just when you thought it was looking promising we go and sign shit like that. What a fucking joke. Cheap, cheap, cheap option again. Fucking idiot Whelan. Penny pinching bastard.
Whelan hasn’t signed him. Coyle has.
I was expecting more from you Standish
It was only a half-hearted comeback just in case!Just when you thought it was looking promising we go and sign shit like that. What a fucking joke. Cheap, cheap, cheap option again. Fucking idiot Whelan. Penny pinching bastard.Whelan hasn’t signed him. Coyle has.
Perhaps he can cop off with all those belly bustin, greasy haired, cold sore infested chicks that Momo turned away from his harlem.
Never knew Momo lived in New York. Is Harlem famous for those sorts of chicks?
Well, he’s always considered himself to be a bit of globetotter. If DW thinks the right offer has been made he won’t see the start of the season :woohoo:He’s still on crutches. Who’s going to sign him now?
Anyway, over and out. I’m even boring myself now.
You’re on a loser there Johnny! I’ve tried it before and it’s like arguing with the wife, if I remember that far back. ;)
I’ll chalk it down as a winning draw.Sky Sports understands a host of Championship clubs are weighing up moves for former Manchester United striker John Cofie.
.Sounds like something’s brewing there…
He’s full of beans that lad.So it wouldn’t matter if you (or I) had seem him play coz what do you know but you form am opinion based on the views of Northampton Town fans & some local & tabloid journalists coz they know so much more???They watch him every week, so yes, I’d value their opinions more than either of us watching sporadic games.
Neil Sullivan & Maik Taylor get games (I assume) because they have proved they are still capable of playing at that level by doing it week in, week out at that level. Lee Nicholls has notI know Nicholls hasn’t proven himself in the Championship; that the whole fecking point of this exchange of posts! Sullivan in particular, is way past his best as a goalkeeper. He’s older than Pollitt. Older than me even (just). So who would you rather have in your goals a 43 year old or a young up and coming 20 year old? I know which I’d choose.
Have to correct you on a factual error though – I’ve only seen 1 Latics reserve game in my life …. I didn’t write off anyone after that game other than to say virtually all of em played very poorly … I think I said about Nicholls that he’d been awful which he was but that he wasn’t the only one. ANYWAY I never wrote off NcManaman after the game coz he didn’t play as I think he was on loan at Blackpool at the time – I do actually like to at least see someone play once before writing them off!!!
Fair enough if you didn’t mention McManaman – my mistake. You did use it to write off Wigan’s development programme however, as that was whole theme of the thread as I (and Garswood if I remember rightly) argued to the contrary that we’d seen things compeltely differently in the Development Squad games we’d watched.
Back to Nicholls I’m not saying I disagree with anyone that says they think he should be given a go. If Al Habsi is gonna miss the start of the season if I was Coyle I would go with Pollitt & Nicholls & be happy with it. I just (initially) said there Is no way that his performances at northampton have “proved” he is good enough for the championshipAnd back to that word ‘proven’. No he’s not proven – but I’d say if you asked a good number of people they’d share the opinion that he’s could be a good keeper in the Championship.
Anyway, over and out. I’m even boring myself now.
Bloody hell you seem to have a very low pernickety threshold if you think my original post falls into that category
Of course I picked up on jayt saying he’d “proved” he was good enough coz the whole statement revolves around that word. To be honest I think if he’d also said “I think that he’s shown he could play at this level” though I’d still have the same opinion. The point is that he played in league 2, & did very well, but that level is a world away from the Championship. Doing well at that level means he’s shown he’s good enough for that level at the very least.
There’s a difference in Aidy Boothroyd saying that he “genuinely thinks Lee is as good as he (Foster) is” which is what he actually said, & him saying “Lee has shown he’s as good as Ben Foster”The pernickety part of this thread is you accusing me of being pernickety coz I asked how Lee Nicholls has proved he is good enough for the Championship. Based on the post I originally commented on it’s a perfectly reasonable question to ask – moving on, personally some Northampton fans saying he could play for England one day isn’t the kind of evidence I need to prove anything!!
With your opinion of Lee Nicholls, I’d ask how much you know of Championship goalkeepers & how you’ve arrived at the opinion that a keeper you’ve never seen play at this level is better than them (or as good as)? Not saying I agree or disagree with you but the fact of the matter is that none of us have seen enough of Nicholls to know – I’d like to see him given a chance next season but I’ve no idea whether he’ll live up to the challenge if he was
It’s not a case of a ‘low pernickety threshold’, it’s a case of picking up on a bit of ‘au contraire’.
No, I haven’t seen much of Nicholls play since he left the Development Squad, in fact, I think I’ve seen him play once in past twelve months. But, I don’t have to see him play to form an opinion on whether I think he’ll be good enough because I’m not a scout or professional football coach – so even I watched him, what the feck would I know?
I’m basing my opinion on what other people have said about him: supporters, the press, and a highly experienced manager – who’d I’d guess knows an awful lot more about judging a player’s ability than you or I. If I saw him play I might think he was crap – like you did when you saw him playing for the Development Squad after which you also wrote off McManaman.
I’d rather base my opinion on what people employed in the game think than trusting my own poor eyesight.
As for Championship goalkeepers, no I’m not an expert. I do know Maik Taylor is still on the books and getting games with Millwall and Neil Sullivan’s (who’s 43) is getting a game with Doncaster. Aside from that, most of the clubs have an inexperienced keeper as back-up, and in a couple of cases, their first choice keeper has little or no experience at Championship level. So I maintain, in my opinion that, Nicholls could do a decent job in the Championship.
Watson although he was not Prem standard ( Thanks for the header by the way ! ) will be above average in the Championship in my view. Both he and Gomez fit into that category and would be beneficial to our attempt at getting back to the greed league !Agreed.
(Ps. it’s only called the ‘greed league’ by jealous teams in other leagues with no money!)
The very fact that Coyle is looking into bringing Carson to the club gives you your answer regarding the young lad Nicholls !To carry on the pernickety theme…. It’s a rumour Phil, not fact!
