Reminds me of a piece that appeared on this forum a few years ago:
http://www.cockneylatic.co.uk/news/965-ungrateful-isnt-a-strong-enough-word
This is exactly my point with regards to the club preparing for the drop.
DW came in and saved our skin. He promised us the high life and he delivered.
New ground, owned by us, potential to make money, no major renovations needed and a permanent income stream from the rugby.
Premier League football for 8 amazing years where we beat the best of the best.
A League Cup Final appearance, albeit a loss.
An FA Cup Final win and a further visit to Wembley the season after. 4 visits in 12 months.
SIX games in Europe.
He was fully aware in the PL days that a club like ourselves couldn’t survive for long without crippling the future of the club with debts. He cut the wage bills, made the club profitable but sadly it ended in relegation just before one final pay day.
In the Championship we have a smaller income and failure to be promoted inside the two years required means that realistically (and history backs this up) we probably won’t go up for a while if indeed at all. Problem is that we can’t survive at this level unless we’re prepared to risk the future of the club.
Relegation will hit us hard in all areas but it won’t send us under like so many clubs before us. We will go back to a level at which we can compete and will actually be seen as a big draw, with a good solid bank balance, a stadium that as above needs no work and has a permanent lodger. Add to that the potential to make money off the back of it with functions etc.
He always promised he would leave the club in a better shape than he bought it and whilst we’ll have only been promoted a division we will be in a far far better state than when he walked into Springfield Park all those years ago.
I think he was talking about the club Donny but nevermind.
He scores when he wants
The silence from Whelan is deafening! Closing down sale. Below par loan players brought in. Fans hardly raise an eyebrow let alone speak up. Does anybody care? What happened to those meet and greeters who were prepared to get to the ground early to let their feelings for the club show? About time some spoke up now to let those running the club know how we feel and I don’t mean a fans forum with 5 puddings nodding eagerly as Jonathon Jackson jerks em off in the home changing room! That the same Whelan that isn’t allowed to run the club whilst he’s banned?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we’re actively going out to lose matches and get relegated I just think we’re preparing for it. The wage cutting and bringing in money for players wherever possible just has that ‘closing down’ feel to it.
But, I very much doubt the club have thrown the towel in and are resigned to being in League One.For one, dropping down to League One could lead to people losing their jobs, or at
the very least, having to take pay cuts.Secondly, Whelan still has a lot of money invested in the club, and even if the entire squad was sold, it would go nowhere near paying him back.
I’d hazard a guess that Mackay wants a squad of players who’ll battle to stay up, and Forshaw and the others who have gone do not fit into that mould.
All my opinion, obviously.
As was my comment.
It just seems that with Whelan looking like he’s ready to move on and bringing his Grandson in that we’ve accepted that we can’t survive at this level for too long and it’s time to start again. We’re still in a far better position than when DW took over and will have the funds to survive for years to come if managed correctly.
Never mind all that how much did we pay for him not that long ago?How the fck are we expected to stay up selling all the talent and bringing all the shite in we are doing? Talk about clearing out the wages before we drop.
How the fck has it come to this? Whelan is supposed to have no involvement for 6 weeks yet it will be one of his most profitable weeks at the club if all these sales go through!
I posted on facebook over the weekend that I think we’ve accepted relegation and are glad to go back to ‘our level’ in profit having chased and lived the dream. This selling of practically everyone tells me the same.
Although, Malky did say yesterday that we want players who want to be at the club and maybe we’re just offing the ones that don’t.
5-4 Now for the drop! My 9-2 is looking like it could be the betting coup of the century! :)
9-2? Betting coup? Hardly
I thought it was a cracking price considering how shit we have been for months on end! :)
Doesn’t come across well. I like a bet and I know there’s no sentimentality in betting. That’s why I only back FOR us and, like yesterday, when the opposition are at an attractive price (Huddersfield 9/4), I can’t bring myself to back against us because I’d feel pretty shit picking up my winnings if (when) we lose. I hope your winnings are of some comfort as you’re browsing next season’s League 1 fixtures.
I really believe that we will go down and my bet wasn’t ever going to tempt providence, it was meant to soften the blow of something that is out of my hands! I wouldn’t mind losing my stake obviously but what will be will be and should we go down I will have subsidised my season ticket! :)
I was on a 0-0 bet yesterday and it would have been that had they not gotten lucky!
What season ticket? I suspect if we go down you will be among those who we won’t see for dust.
Aha but at least he’ll have £5.50 in his sky rocket!
Call me optimistic in the extreme but I still think we’ve enough quality, albeit got rid of a lot of quality, to get out of this. We’d have even more chance if we had a motivational manager suddenly shocked upon us but I’ve given up all hope of that.
Trust me, it will cover my season ticket! Why would I want to fuck off Griff? Crowds will be down to circa 8,000 but I will still be here !
Oh, I don’t know. I just expect that quite a few people who weren’t around when we were last a regular fixture in League 1 wil slink off whence they came if it happens again.
Will you be attending more Utd games?
Well, there’ll be Sheffield Utd, Peterborough United, Scunthorpe United and possibly Colchester United. In this league there’s only Leeds United and Rotherham United so I guess he will.
Cowie are you serious we are playing with 10 men when he plays AWFUL
#ICTLEGEND
Sounds positive.
Says in his interview he can’t wait to get into training and steak his claim for a jersey
Considering our defence has been horrendous I would suggest we do indeed need a new defence.
Man Utd game last night. Cambridge player wins the ball, Di Maria goes down. Commentator says “He does win the ball but catches him on the follow through, it’s a foul”
COURSE HE CATCHES HIM. HE CAN’T DISAPPEAR.
It’s exactly the same as the challenge on McClean I mentioned when the ball was won so rightfully no foul given. You could have argued that was far more deliberate and reckless than the McClean challenge given that that had happened.
As Jimmy says…..it’s practically non-contact nowadays and it’s turning it into a farce.
The Press Association are reporting that West Brom have agreed terms to sign Shola Ameobi.
The 33-year-old former Newcastle striker is available on a free transfer, having left Gaziantep in December after just five months in Turkey.A mobile LAMPPOST?
He must be shit hot.
Thanks for THAT goal Ben, but I will still always refer to your Wigan career as “shit”
