Sounds like he’s doing a bloody awful job for a bloke who ain’t played for nigh on a year. 10 pts from 12 since he arrived and can’t get in our squad cos he won’t live in Pem!
I haven’t seen as many positive comments about a Latics centre forward for many years.
Swallow your pride Uwe and get him back straight away and play him up front with A.N Other.
Our three ‘hotshot’ strikers we have here at present need lessons on how to be a striker as they seem to either have forgotten or more to the point have never known.
Or, they just simply can’t play in this lone striker role & need A.N.Other alongside them.
Correct.
Or maybe they aren’t getting the service from our supposed attacking midfield.
No history
Everything Griff says isnt true?
You mean there’s a professional club just down the road I could have supported all my life
If the bit about him getting himself fit is true then we’ve possibly shot ourselves in the foot
He will get a heavy fine and a long ban lance has said he holds no grudge towards flower it was a act of madness he has to live with what he has done and the rugby league should sort this out and then move on and I am a saints fan may be wigan could punish him and make him do some work in the community to show kids what not to do on a rugby fieldThat’s what I think will happen. The CPS may choose to get involved for the second punch though.
Congrats on the win. (damn that still hurts to type lol)
That just backs up what I said! A true professional would turn the other cheek and know that two wrongs do not make a right! You say that you would hit out in retaliation which in itself is condoning such thuggery! ( What’s good for the goose etc ) !Correct. A true pro would which is where my comment regards it being stupid and unacceptable comes into play.
What is your FIRST, gut instinct, spare of the moment reaction if someone runs 30 yards and hits you in the face with their elbow? I would guess it is to hit them back. Nobody in the World would just stand there and take it whether it’s in the street or on a sports field. It just doesn’t happen. That is what makes it understandable. Whilst understandable however it doesn’t make it right which is why I and everyone else on the planet has said he got what he deserved.
Everybody who is claiming that Flowers first punch is an act of thuggery (which it is yes) must also say the same for the elbow from Hohaia. Not to do so is hypocritical. They were both acts of thuggery just as any punch is I guess. If either happens on the street then both parties get arrested. Flower would get a bigger sentence however for the second punch which is the part that is not understandable and will land him in some trouble.
EDIT – Said elbow from Hohaia is also UNDERSTANDABLE as he has just been hit from behind but is NOT acceptable due to as Filmoss said ‘turning the other cheek’
FWIW, Ben could be in serious trouble for his second punch. I doubt that Lance Hohaia or St Helens will press charges but the CPS could as hitting a man on the ground is taken really seriously these days. There is no understanding, accepting, condoning or any other word you want to try and put in peoples mouths that punch.
As I said earlier, he would have probably been sin binned for the retaliating punch and Hohaia could also have been for the elbow, but once he did the second his entire defence both on and off the field went up in smoke. That is thuggery Filmoss I will agree with that.
second punch was an utterly disgraceful act.
Correct. I actually like Ben as a player and he’s a pretty funny guy off the field but I lost a lot of respect for him after the second punch. The first is almost understandable but the second is sick. To do either in a major final when it was obvious that that was their gameplan was stupid.
Moved to non-football. Wasn’t aware it was on the main board.
Why is the first punch acceptable? So you are saying that some punching in the face is ok? Sounds more like a rabble of hooligans rather than a sport!
The first punch you can understand (where did I say acceptable?) as he has just been elbowed in the face which is why he retaliated (and yes Hohaia retaliated to a hit from Flower) with the punch. Had he not done what he did on the ground then both players would probably have been sin binned to calm down. If he doesn’t throw a punch at all then Hohaia could easily have seen red himself.
Rugby League is a tough, competitive, contact sport and occasionally tempers flare and punches are thrown. It’s usually dealt with by a sin binning unless something else happens such as what Flower did later. The pattern of what happened was pretty much cheap shot, cheap shot, retaliation, sick and uncalled for.
Surely if you think that a punch is understandable then you therefore accept it do you not? Legalised thuggery if you ask me!
No not at all, hence why I have said he deserved what he got. I can understand why he punched him as I’m pretty sure if someone hit me in the face I would hit them back too just as Flower did. His reaction to being hit is therefore UNDERSTANDABLE but is NOT acceptable.

RL….family sport. :dry:Indeed.
Shame we only seem to get press coverage when something like this happens.
At the end of the day it’s all personal opinion and as we all have learnt over the years there is only one persons opinion that counts.Griff’s?
The pool of players we have to pick from is decreasing year on year due to all the foreign players playing in the English league system.
I don’t think the situation will get much better without some stricter quotas being brought in to limit the amount of overseas players.Flaming hell, the UKip guide to football administration.
He has a point though. When you have the top teams in the English Premier League unable to name 11 English or probably even British players you’re going to have a problem at International level. Couple that with the lack of English talent playing abroad and we’re on a hiding to nothing.
We win the U17s competition but then them players never kick on as they’re benched at their clubs for a big named overseas player and sent on loan to lower league clubs where the training and such that they receive is second class.
A quota will never come in though because if the league loses said overseas talent it’s loses its selling power abroad, its quality and finally its money. Will never happen.

Of course they do Tez. Just because you have muscles doesnt mean you’re on steds or other drugs.
.Talking to an health professional who works with the RL and I asked her about the steroids she explained that’s its too far gone and any team that bans them, wouldn’t be able to physically compete against the other teams.
She should probably take her evidence of this to the doping agency then. Infact if you did it you would be a hero in many Latics fans eyes as it would be the end of Rugby League.
