Jesus, how embarrassing!!
At least they went. Unlike 6,000 of your “Loyal” ST holders last weekend.
Dont use price as an excuse, because these loyal fans only paid £13 a game at the start of the season, so its not like they had to shell out £30 on New Years Day for a Man U ticket.
Does it really matter?
I see Everton didn’t take any such chances by fielding an inexperienced side despite their squad being as threadbare as ours ! Job done and relax !
Looks like I’m going to have to keep posting this quote until it gets through:
Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez defended his team selection for their 1-1 FA Cup draw against Bournemouth.
Martinez made nine changes at the DW Stadium and could only salvage a 1-1 draw after going behind to the League One outfit.
The Spaniard said: “I do show the FA Cup respect.
“There are youngsters here I feel have a bright future, but we will never accelerate their development unless we play them in these competitions.
“That is what we have to do at this club.
“I don’t just want to win games in the short term.
“The first team has to be part of a learning process. Fighting relegation is not an environment for youngsters to show what they can do.”
So you told Roberto to pick that side in order to rest a few players?
I have to agree with Bobby when he says its the best group of players we’ve had for a long time, because yes, we have took points off Man U, we have won at Anfield, Emirates and beat Spurs at WHL.
Lets see were we finish this year, its only half way through the season and lots can happen. We have had the worst run of injuries and suspensions I have ever known in my time watching Latics particularly at the back. this together with some awful penalty decisions have cost us at least 8-10 points.
The squad is slowly getting back to full strength again and there are some very winnable games coming up. If we can keep this squad together and add a few more faces then I will expect a finish anywhere between 9th to 15th.
I’m not up Bobby’s harris the man has a lot to learn but I am glad he is learning at our club and not Liverpool or Villa.I’d be inclined to agree with that tbh. Our performances this season have been far better than 18th place.
Didn’t this fella appear on X factor :silly:That’s probably the one we’ll end up with
please stay Davey you are no1 favorit poster in hole of OmanWeren’t you that guy who asked me to send him my bank details?
WHERE’S MY MILLION POUNDS?????
I think if we get through then there’s a big chance the Macclesfield game will be on TV
You know that is not going to happen egg with games either side of that fixture against Fulham and Sunderland points are more vital in the league than the cup sorry to say but there you have itThey are yes, but why does it have to be one or the other?
Play the first team in the replay, spank them and then play the same team at Macclesfield. We have a strong chance here to reach the 5th round and if the draw is kind who knows what can happen. Look at Portsmouth the other year. Didn’t play a single side ranked above them.
Winning becomes a habit (as does losing) which is why I don’t get why we use the tired excuse. I’ve never heard a player in a winning team say he’s tired. Were our players tired in 2002/03 when they played 46 league games and still played in the cup against WBA, City, Fulham and Blackburn? No they weren’t.
Not one of those players would be in our first choice 17 and would only play if we got injuries. I get what you are saying but LOTP is perfectly correct. The Wigan U19s side will be that side except for about 5 players.
That’ll be the five that aren’t Youth Team players then? ;)
Well, those that aren’t U19. They’ve changed the rules this year. You used to be allowed 3 players over the age limit like in the Olympics but I don’t think you’re allowed any now so they’ll probably go out on loan to the likes of Leigh.
I think there is only really Tomkins, Gelling, Dudson and Taylor that would be knocking on the first team door if everyone was fit but there’d be nobody in (bit like Fyvie, Redmond, Golobart etc)
Of which about 1,000 were supporting the Wigan Youth Team.
That’s not strictly true though is it? Seven of the thirteen who started the match are in the Wigan Warriors first team squad.
Neither the Fylde nor Southport game contained a single Wigan Athletic Fist Team Squad member. It really was the kids.
None of them will actually play though.
When it says stronger squad BTW it means as opposed to last year when they lost 40-0 and not compared to Leigh.
I’m sure there’s one or two who’ll get a game. But, that’s not the point Egg. The point is Lord Of The Pies is saying it’s Wigan RL’s Youth Team. It’s not.If the Fylde or Southport game consisted of Pollitt, Fyvie, Jones, McManaman, Golobart, Lopez etc, then it would be the same. They didn’t. The first team were away at the time so the squads for the two games consisted of kids few people had heard of.
Actually, Cockney Latic DID have a message board then and there was quite a lively debate about where white dog poo had gone, you never see it anymore. One of lifes great mysteries. Sod things like the Mary Celeste and Lord Lucan. What happened to white dog poo????!!!!!
P.S. This ‘passing football’ we supposedly play. It’s awful. 95% of passes are sideways…..its rubbish.Prior to the Utd game, SSN showed a stat that we’re 9th in the PL for attempted passes and 9th for completed passes. We can’t even get that right.
Eggy, that could have been me saying 99% of that. Not sure Redmond was quite as good as you thought but other than that…He wasn’t Roberto Carlos don’t get me wrong, but he impressed me.
I thought Redmond was one of our better players in the first half. Took his man on and constantly got the ball into the box. Tracked back well and read the play well. Better than a certain first teamer who plays that role. Golobart looked pretty decent too.
Said on Tuesday that Callum won’t make it as a PL player. If he was that good he would have been signed by one of the big clubs by now.
Stam was awful. Worst game for us this season. Didn’t look at all interested and did well to last the 90.
What frustrates me about our play is how slow it is. Player in space on wing, player with ball in middle. Instead of one quick ball to the wing to stretch the defence we need two passes to the defence before it reaches him thus allowing the defence to move across and the player in space is no longer in space and we have to go backwards again. Oh, and why on Earth do we not shoot when we have time and space????? It looks well when the f*cking CB had more shots than the forwards.
