HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Wigan are hoping to land Rotherham defender Craig Morgan on a free transfer this summer.
Morgan is out of contract at the New York Stadium next month and although he has been offered fresh terms he has yet to sign a new deal at the South Yorkshire outfit.
Wales international Morgan has established himself as a key man for Rotherham since joining the club on a free transfer from Preston in the summer of 2012.
The 29-year-old helped the club win successive promotions from League Two to the Championship and was instrumental in securing survival in the second tier this term despite being hit by a three point deduction for fielding an ineligible player.
Wigan are now hoping to lure Morgan to the DW Stadium as they plan to build a side capable of winning promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
A number of stars are expected to leave Wigan in the wake of their relegation and Gary Caldwell sees Morgan’s leadership qualities and experience as a key addition to his squad for next season.
HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Wigan Athletic are hoping to win the race to sign St Mirren midfielder John McGinn on a free transfer this summer.
Wigan boss Gary Caldwell is keen to rebuild the squad at the DW Stadium in the wake of their relegation from the Championship, with a number of players expected to move on.
Wigan scouts are thought to have watched McGinn in action on numerous occasions this season, and they are now preparing a move for the Scotland Under-21 international.
Celtic have held a long-term interest in McGinn and where linked with a move for the midfielder in the January transfer window before they signed Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven from Dundee United.
However, Wigan are hopeful they will be able to lure the skilful midfielder to England as they look to make an immediate return to the second tier next season.
midfielder David Perkins.
Perkins is available on a free transfer after he was one of 17 players to be released by Blackpool earlier this week.
The 32-year-old joined Blackpool in January 2014 and made 67 appearances for the Seasiders during his 18-month spell at Bloomfield Road.
Perkins was a regular in Lee Clark’s side last season, but was unable to help the side avoid relegation from the Championship.
A number of clubs are thought to have expressed an interest in Perkins, but Wigan are believed to be in pole position to land the former Barnsley man.
Wigan boss Gary Caldwell is planning major changes at the DW Stadium, with a big overhaul of the squad expected in the wake of their relegation to League One.
Caldwell is thought to be an admirer of Perkins and sees his experience as a vital addition to his side for next season as he plots an immediate return to the second tier.
At least leyth won in the cup to keep the boroughs hopes alive
As for this attendance malarky, it really is getting very trite now!Yet their are 1314 posts about an ex manager from two years ago
aye after one game
we have looked at ways in which we can ensure that the matchday atmosphere is improved
Why not close the West Stand and relocate everyone to the East/South which hold 14500 between them? More fans packed together would create a better atmosphere and also paint a picture of a larger crowd on Manish’s late night highlights, when the West Stand wouldn’t be shown.
It would also save on stewarding costs as I’m sure the Executive Box occupants could manage without someone showing them to their seat!
Keep up Mutty, Manish is gone, long live Channel 5 at 9pm.
Anyway, as much as it may upset some, those front few rows always made the crowd look worse than it was and I’ve said before to sell them off at a cut price.
Covering them with advertising similar to the sides od ES1 & 9 won’t affect that many and will in fact push more folks together.
Bearing in mind this decision seems to have been made after season tickets went on sale, says to me after the initial purchasing, sales have dried up or they’ve had a big advertising sale. After all we need all the income we can get.
Good job you told the dog that Tez he could well be waiting up after MOTD for the championship highlights
Chill out ya soft pap and know you haven’t if you keep knocking those ten minutes off
Well I sit there and here is what my letter says….
“As a consequence of our relegation to League One, we have looked at ways in which we can ensure that the matchday atmosphere is improved to assist the team to win promotion back to The Championship. One of the ideas is to reduce the number of blocks of seats available to purchase and utilise these areas in different ways.
Unfortunately your current seat is one of those that will not be available to renew. However, we are pleased to offer you any seat of your choice in the stadium ( subject to availability and excluding our executive areas ) at the price of your existing renewal. There are a number of seats in a similar location to your existing seat or you may choose a seat in a different stand at no extra cost.”I can only assume that with my seat being in ES5 Row F that they are planning to maybe net off the first so many rows along the whole stand and utilise that space with advertising and the like! This would shove everyone back and not have the sporadic appearance that it will more than likely have next season! I am of course just summising, either way I am not too fucking happy about it!
Fancy that, you not happy.
Why don’t you offer him a compromise? Tell him he can have it for the last 12 minutes of each game. You know, the time when you’re not using it? ;)

Are you familiar with the word ‘Compromise’ or the term ‘Middle Ground’ ? From what I can remember you hardly saw any games under Martinez because of work and so you can’t know fully how fucking mind numbing it was at times! That style of football in League One will be even worse to endure!
