That’s the thing though – it isn’t.
Half of Sunderland’s debt is owed to him whilst the rest is owed directly to a bank.No matter show rich he is, whilst I can see him converting the debt owed to him into something else & cant see him paying off the £70mill owed to the bank just to get £40mill back in dribs and drabs.
It’s insane & something doesn’t sit right with what the new owner is saying about the deal. Other things I’ve read about it would make much more sense
Sunderlands debts were paid off by Short the new buyer didnt want to be lumbered with them. Our running costs are in the accounts which you can get online. Pretty accurate reporting though horc although im sure Grigg would go for more than a mill.
I would be absolutely amazed if Ellis Short has cancelled the nigh on £70m that was owed to him AND paid off the £70m owed to the bank all to receive just £40mill back from the new owners (a loss of over £100m)
And if you believe the new owners he has agreed to take that £40mill back in stagesI know how it’s being reported but I ain’t buying it. Not for a second. Doesn;t make any sense whatsoever
My grandson (he’s 6) played a game at the weekend, and they usually (because of their age) lump it forward from kick off to be able to run onto. If they play it backwards it’s disastrous :)
However the other team were moaning “you can’t kick it forward at kick off” :(That’s bizarre coz before the law change, the ball had to move forward from a kick off – you just couldn’t score direct from a kick off. Nor could you kick it directly backwards.
What freakin laws had they been playing to for all these years????Many nations accused FIFA of fiddling at the 1966 World Cup so that England played every game at Wembley.
This is no different than seeding. Don’t forget that Brazil & France still had to win all their games to ensure this “fiddle” worked outManager of the season for Paul Cook. When is this award announced?Paul Hurst won that. Or at least he won the LMA one. Not sure if they’re are any others
We need to be looking for players who are good enough & not just signing players so that its one less player to have to look for
And you can’t have the odd poor game & be consistant!! ;)
In fairness to him as much as I thought he was poor almost every time I saw him (& some times poorer than others!!) he had a blinder against City in the cup although so did everyone
Thanks for his input to the season but he wasn’t a player that impressed me whenever I saw him (which admittedly wasn’t anywhere near as many as most posters) so I’d leave him at Leicester.
Like Otter says his crossing was poor more often than not & he was shaky defensively. I wasn’t a big fan of James before his injury but thought he looked the better of the 2 when played this season & we looked more of an attacking threat with James than Elder down the left – and I think Jacobs looked far better with James behind himBut for whatever reason, James suddenly dropped completely off the radar around the time of the City cup game & never re-appeared so its clear Cook completely lost faith with him or somet iffy went on
Rumour or no agent rumour there should be at least 1 or 2 coming through by now who should be at least within touching distance of a first team outing or as I previously pointed out, what’s the point in a youth system ?.Lets not forget the money we made on Baines and MacManamam all be it Everton cast off’s but without been given a chance at Wigan they”d never got to were they did.
If the rumour is true then we should bring him back and let him learn off the likes of Powell, Grigg, Vaughan, seasoned pros, surely thats better than playing in League TwoNah – for me a player needs to be playing 1st team football to develop.
James McCarthy had the right idea – when at Hamilton he had all the big English clubs chasing him & he turned them down saying that he would learn more playing for Hamilton every week than he would rotting in the reserves for several years at Liverpool or Arsenal. Even when he decided the time was right for the step up he chose between us & Wolves as he felt 1st team football was more likely at us. And then on top of that he had chances to leave before he did but only eventually went when he felt he’d developed enough to get 1st team football at a “bigger” club.If he’d gone to Liverpool when breaking into Hamilton’s team he’d have spent years in the reserves being cocooned in a pampered world, not playing competitive football & not developing the nouse & drive to succeed & when they booted him out he wouldn’t have been good enough & too old to be “showing promise”
Nick Powell would have been far better off staying at Crewe or moving to a middling team than spending years being shut out at UnitedWe’ve had loads of loan players from the big clubs over the last few years & I know many of them have been really highly rated by their parent clubs but stick em in the big bad world of professional lower league football & most of them have floundered.
Same with Lang – if Cook thinks he’s good enough now then by all means get him in every match day squad. If he thinks that he isn’t quite ready then loan him out for the season to a club where he’s likely to play week in, week out and watch him regularly to see how he develops.
Its far better for his development than just training every day & playing friendliesAs for Callum Lang, well he is a Latics player, so if the Toffees want him let’s see the colour of their money and slap the monopolising gets with a massive valuation or sell on clause.
I know a,better idea, lets stick him on the bench then ease him into our side, pitch in with say 5-10 goals and keep us in the Championship for more than one, season.
As for someone saying “Everton snap up young players so other team cant have them”. Seriously , your saying Everton want Lang, a player that can’t get into a League one side so others cant have him ??.
If Everton saw something at Morecambe then someone at Latics is clueless and needs fookin sacking.
Bring him back, let him train and slowly introduce him in from the bench and cup games like we use to do or just scrap all youth sides altogether
Or maybe the story is just bollocks – invented by his agent as a ploy to get an improved deal from Latics.
I seem to remember similar stories doing the rounds above that Rakesh Bingham several years ago with the likes of Liverpool and Uniex allegedly interested. He got a new deal & found his way to Hamilton Academical’s after unsuccessful stints with Mansfield and Hartlepool. If he’s good enough, he’ll get picked at Latics and judging by some of the crap we’ve had on loan from Everton, they’re not the best judge of young players!!
Utd have bored the nation witless all season but they still finished 2nd and will probably win the FA cup. Certainly nothing boring with Shrews 2 goals against Charlton.True re United to a certain extent although only 4 teams scored more goals than them in the top flight.
Shrewsbury on the other hand managed to score just 2 more goals than Oldham who got relegated.
Their tactic appeared to be to kill the game stone dead & hope to nick a goal once everyone had nodded off.
Successful yes but duller than dishwater to my tastes – regardless of whether they scored 2 good goals in the play off semi finalsThey have been the EFL, TV and Referees darlings all season. Dullest football I’ve watched in a while those two legs. Two very average teams. Will be interesting to see if Rotherham or Scunthorpe’s momentum will continue, or if they have already peaked.Paul Hurst makes the most of his limited resources & has done very well, but yes from what I’ve seen they play the dullest brand of football I’ve seen since Greece won the Euros
We’ve had plenty players over the years who have had me scratching my head about their ability as a player. Pinching money, I think the term is…… Greg Strong?A robot can play a lot of this modern football. So many average players in league one, let’s be honest most teams weren’t up to much.
This kind of supports jr’s post, but I knew Greg Strong as a kid. Went to various football camps with him, played with him for Leigh Am’s etc..
Anyway, whilst I also knew some other good footballers at that age, he was head & shoulders above anybody I ever saw play at that age and that includes when i started coaching football at a primary school & when I was refereeing.
To be fair, he was a left winger back then & Latics converted him into a centre half/left back but it still doesn’t alter the fact that he looked a world beater when against other kids but distinctly average when playing adult football
Mind you he made a decent fist out of it as manager at Rhyl & last I heard he was Plymouth Argyle’s North west scoutI think we had green trims for 9 years I seem to remember the puma kit we kept for 3 seasons, the 2 Adidas strips lasting 3 seasons then 2 Patrick strips also for 3 seasons all with green trims. I quite liked the green it gave us unique colours, or did Tramere wear the same colours for a while, cant remember.
I haven’t updated my site for years now, but this covers it

To right it’s not been updated for a while – “a team that suffered the only relegation in the club’s history”
There’s been a few more since then!!   ;)I don’t know how to post pics, but Palace are having Puma next season too.
Have a look at their design and swap their colours for ours, with green instead of their yellow bits, and that would be a great kit.
Here’s that Palace kit …

I dunno about your hope for the sizing VAT – that Palace kit looks as sprayed on as the current Kappa one.
Looks like I’ll finally have to start on that long postponed diet if I don’t wanna look even more like the Michelin man than I already do, when I squeeze myself into a Latics shirt!!I’m not sure how ‘new’ it is.
AFAIK Latics fans have always been refereed to as ‘Tics’ The club maybe not, but what harm does it actually do? It’s created an atmosphere and has spread pretty well.
No, Adam.
It’s a new phenomenon from the past couple of seasons. Yet another example of people trying to change something….When it doesn’t need changing. It seems trivial, but it annoys me greatly. Just say Latics!! Whoever invented it needs a clip round the ear.
Its been around longer than a couple of seasons. An old mate of mine that I haven’t seen in 11 years used to use it & I’m sure I remember someone complaining about its use in The Mud Hutter in the dim & distant past
That said, its much more prevalent now – or so it seemsAnd my dad (RIP) who was a home & away United supporter was calling Old Trafford OT before he split up with my mum 24 years ago – he was from a council estate in Chorlton, so it spreads across all social classes!! Mind you I think he used it more coz he knew how much it wound me up!!
