Three sitters missed is all we hear but we forget how good those saves were from their goalkeeper.
End of the day SM has to treat every game like a cup final and play with same intensity which will catch one or two out i think.
PNE is a massive game and a huge opportunity , big away following , has to be 3 points this saturday !

Disappointed is the word with yesterday of points dropped because the team was outstanding in the first half and defended the onslaught brilliantly in the second half.
Three brilliant saves made by the usual premier league standard keeper at a parachute payment club was the difference.
The players did the right things but our team lacks quality in the final third and Maloney will have to try And work on this major fault in the team now he has the back line sorted.
I have noticed a cup final like intensity since he arrived though which is now filtering to the crowd and this is good thing but those forwards need to start firing in the goals.
Have a chance but not much room for error now with the games running out.

I think the remaining fixtures offer a good few opportunities for some points especially when some teams are coming into that spell were they realise the play offs are out of the question but have enough points to stay up.
A few weeks ago i said we have no chance however i am not so sure now after seeing the massive improvement seen we have had under Maloney and his coaching team. Its a remarkable turnaround and he looks and sounds like a born football manager and we may have unearthed a real nugget management wise.
He has addressed the intensity and effort and more importantly organisation , we even have seen Fletcher get a scruffy but important goal and who would have predicted that a few weeks back ?
Charlie Hughes looks like the find of the decade and it so heartening to see Latics producing talent of this calibre and its our future and worth embracing by the owners.
The lack of goals though for me remains the problem but he has no options really now the window is closed other than trying out a reserve or two or hoping Fletcher now gets into some kind of groove and starts banging them in.
A win tomorrow would be a huge step forward and the biggest of the season however a point wouldn’t be a disaster because its those games against the likes of Rotherham , PNE , Reading etc that will determine our fate.

I still can’t get me ed round Leam’s sacking, just doesn’t make sense. So good luck to Kolo, but you have a lot a fans who are like me, bitter about Leam going. Best way to shut us up is by winning the league :):whistle:

SZe plays in midfield an area long overdue a shake up and has had some very good reviews.
He should be making the bench at least now .

I keep saying it and saying it , the development squad is producing proper raw talent and our best players this season have come from that source in my opinion.
The thinking in football now is that “you’re in the under 23 squad “ and then they get left there?
CW raises a good point there about Hughes and that Kolo had a look but if I was Maloney I’d be looking constantly because I firmly believe that’s our best source of footballer.
A good striker is needed very badly and we might already have him.

Hughes was excellent and a real nugget we have gained for nothing.
Surely another one lurking in that reserve team somewhere and these young players a few an absolute credit and brilliant they are coming through.

I’m not one for singling out players as they are More intensity and better organisation most certainly last night particularly at the back.
The forward line gave it their all but still lacked the class needed to unlock a championship standard defence and the same old issues remain and we all know who they are.
I think Maloney will have to have a look at the development squad and see if there is ANY young striker worth a go immediately because without some wins we are only going one way!

I’m not one for singling out players as they were all trying their hearts out last night no doubt about that.
More intensity and better organisation most certainly last night particularly at the back but with more intensity comes more injury risk and was gutted for the brilliant Martin Kelly , hope it’s not too serious.
The forward line gave it their all but still lacked the vitalclass needed to unlock a championship standard defence and the same old issues and we all know where the problems are.
The free kick near the end summed it up for me , just not good enough , a schoolboy would have down a better job with that and I hope the new manager dished out some words.
At least the crowd seemed pleased which shows how bad it’s been for the past 4 months and the owners need to stay with the new manager regardless of the results now as he will certainly get the time as an ex player.

Far too fickle up at Sunderland for me.
Grigg and Power were both very instrumental players in the league 1 promotion seasons they featured in but struggled up there in the same division.
Strange that they excelled here but not up there.

Clinging to the hope that second half season malaise kicks in soon with some mid table sides who with no chance of relegation or promotion and then switch off a bit.
Even then with a tightened defence will we get the ball out of our half ?
Blackburn game coming up , a ground we have only ever won at once in our history so a draw is the best I’m expecting especially at present.
I wish the new manager well and I have always had a lot of time for Barrow, his management in 1994-95 saving the club from relegation from the football league in many respects paved the way for the golden era under Whelan.
Not much to grasp at really when all said and done and my grim feeling left by being outclassed by a very poor Hull city team at the turn of the year won’t go away.
Really hope I’m wrong

i doubt any club would pay fees now if they are out of contract in summer as they then become very cheap with only signing on fees to sort.
Club already in transition as far as i am concerned and no use making any other changes management wise now even if results are poor which is what i am expecting despite the recent changes.
