TV ‘football’ ads that usually feature a group of blokes sitting on a sofa. One will come in with a pizza/beer/big mac etc. They’ll all lean forward together to feign excitement and then jump up as our team score. Then we’ll all go out and buy whatever nonsense they’re trying to sell.

World cup non irritations: 8 and 11pm kick off times. Proper times. Those 8am ones in Japan/South Korea seem a world away.

newspaper adverts and promotions that assume you have pizza and beer to watch football regardless – why not a muffin man pie ???

This VIP trip to Paderborn sounds good.

I might manage the coach to Spotland.

be careful if you are going to spotland after watching the hooligan program on channel 5 last night. They have a really scary mob, all five of ’em, three are pensioners and the other two are fucking retards. :woohoo:[/quote]

I watched some of that programme and was surprised at how scary places like Wrexham, Rochdale and Chester have become dear me what is the world coming to?
that toothless Dale ( their nickname)one was hilarious like some relic you get stood outside the old Bees Knees pub in wigan on an early Saturday night having a cig and watching his equally toothless girlfriend batter one of his mates.
The games against lower leagues teams will probably be the reserves or kids if you ask me with the serious friendlies taking place in Germany.
I won’t be wasting any petrol or time going to watch either of those.

World Cup barbequeues with England football team bouncy castles – I gate crashed ( don’t ask) one of these four years ago full of tipsy sunburnt parents and wild kids, suffice to say I didn’t stay long!

Prosperity has meant kids have more choice with their social lives than they have ever had before.Unfortunately this means that less kids are playing football and part from organised football how often do you see a gang of kids playing football like you used to do?
No football think tank is going to change that simple fact but schools and amateur football clubs could play a part in getting some of that sort of thing going again.
When I was at junior school the teachers used to give you a pitch to play on at dinner time and a ball and basically you played football for half an hour -20 a side was normal and it was just fun but it sharpened you up.After school they would run football clubs just kick rounds where again you played for fun with an emphasis on teamwork and enjoyment and anyone could join in of any ability.
I also remember taking my son to Wigan Juniors FC at Pem high school on a Saturday morning back in the 1990s and it was just little teams having a good old kick round regardless of ability.
Some might laugh at this but the footballer Andy Griffin came through this football club and the big clubs like Liverpool and Everton flocked to this field on a Saturday morning to snap up players.

Maybe they were not wearing tartan exactly but I remember people getting behind them as part of Great Britain and the English media certainly supported their campaign.
remember this was the year after the silver jubilee and people were a lot more patriotic back then- not sure they would have done it for us though .

Ally McLeoud and that daft song that still gets chanted today “where on the march with ally’s army” and the ridiculous assumption they were going to win the thing.Everybody believed it and most english got behind them as England failed to reach the 78 World Cup and went 12’years without appearing in the tournament.

World Cup 78 sticks in my mind as the one that I remember following throughout with some fantastic goals and games and a great final between Argentina and Holland.
Remember the ticker tape or ripped up paper celebrations and remember these happening at springy park

Does anyone know if any have been arranged yet. Getting bored already by the closed season.
I suppose that millionaires kick about back slapping tournament thing in Brazil is a bit of compensation but would prefer watching Latics at Morecambe to that hyped up shite.
But as ITV keep telling us “It will be emotional”.
Where did that drivel of a line come from?

The World Cup back in the day used to be very light hearted and the crowds were full of middle aged neutrals from all over wearing floppy cricket hats and fancy dress. At the end of the matches some of these tourists used to run on the pitch and pat the players without any fuss or hassle.
The panelists used to be back in the studio and were all feisty individuals like Malcolm Allison and Brian Clough with brilliant anchor hosts like Brian Moore and Frank Bough.
now all we get is boring ex players spouting off in corporate speak and boring faceless commentators spouting drivel like that to hype up an overblown ,over faced competion with far too many makeweight teams and meaningless games.
It was all about fun and quality in the past and a fantastic event that lost its sparkle for me after the 1998 one in France. The Quatar decision frankly killed it off for me and I couldn’t give a stuff for it anymore- roll on next season and Blackpool away!

never looked the same player when he came back last season so if some money comes in and a large wage is taken off the wage bill and a younger hungrier young player comes in then what is wrong with that?

Hmmm if I was him I’d hold out for another club – I think their annual dice with death may final result in relegation next season.
very poor side and arguably the ficklest supporters in the country who will be screaming for a management change if they lose a couple of games.
                            he’s too good for them!

Two GOOD strikers needed as the play off semi at QPR highlighted this when calamity james missed an absolute sitter that would probably have seen QPR off at 2-0 and put us into the final.

No Arsenal couldn’t beat Latics and we haven’t lost a tie on goals score since January 2012 so by the time it comes round again it will be nearly 3 years since we lost a tie outright!

Most teams like FCUM (dreadful name BTW) are protesting about the corporate hijacking of football and the faux hype surrounding the so called greatest league in the world.
I doubt the passing of the owner will change anything at Utd as his children are involved at the club aren’t they?
the gates have already fallen at FCUM anyway but they are building a new ground in moston which may attract some new supporters and I think Manchester can carry a small club as an alternative.
I hope they keep it going as I remember attending a home fixture in their first season against Ashton town in the North west counties league 2 and over 4000 turned up at Gigg lane giving the tiny Ashton club a great experience.
