We seem to be troubled by teams who are in our faces and the energy to close down our midfield. Teams that sit back or lose a goal against us early struggle.
This doesn’t look good for the playoffs, either getting in them or getting through them.
Calm down we WILL be in the play offs next week of that I have no doubts whatsoever.
We have been nailed on candidates since that fantastic run in February and march and maybe the surety of that has fed through to the manager and players causing the recent iffy results.
Saturday was a massive wake up call however I doubt Birmingham will be as tough a test given their dreadful form of recent weeks and I am certain we will have it nailed by tomorrow night because.nobody at the club will want to cock it up now!
I seem to remember Palace struggling to make the play offs last season and then getting it together in the play off semis and final.
Tomorrow will be very nervy but I think we will have too much for them not to get the result we need.It has gone very down market in the last 25 years maybe down to the fact the numbers going their have declined and the dilapidated derelict hotels littered all over the town reflect that.
It used to thrive and had a 7 day a week social scene during the spring/ summer and autumn months with all the tourists and conference delegates that used to flock there and I don’t remember any loitering toothless smack heads back then. The place was absolutely rammed in July and August and the place always looked smart and it’s sad to see its rapid demise but I can’t see a way back sadly.
Most of the hotels that remain look scruffy and unkept but why would you pay for a week there with the naff weather when you can go to Spain for less than a week in one of the bigger hotels?
I like many others have a soft spot for this weird place which believe it or was one of the first Newtowns in the UK springing up in the late 1800s .
I think it’s current plight reflects UK society in general and a stroll through Blackpool is not dissimilar to a stroll through any town or city and only yesterday afternoon I saw a bunch of these unwashed clowns acting up outside the old bees knees pub.
Always had a soft spot for the football club and used to love that old ramshackle ground of theirs .Although they got relegated Yeovils spirit and 100% effort impressed me particularly when they grabbed a point in the game here.I watched them again last night against Brighton and they gave them quite a few scares and they scrapped and fought for the whole ninety minutes never once giving in.
Yes they were essentially crap but effort and their intention to try to play entertaining football and in the right spirit regardless of their limitations is something to be proud of in my opinion.I’m sure Rosler has made mistakes, but he’s got things right more often than he’s got things wrong.Automatic promotion was always out of his reach, so his target has been a place in the play-offs. That is now within his grasp.
If he achieves that, he must then prepare a competitive team for the semi-final. He looks in a good position to do that.
To get in the play offs from the position the club was in at the time is a fantastic achievement but there is still a little bit of work to do even though it now looks a shoe in.
Blackpool,Birmingham and Blackburn will all have various reasons to give us a hard game so his preparation for these games is absolutely vital .Birmingham away is also iffy as all their boozers are around new st so you have to be restrained .Not sure I would venture away on the choo choo now with this new breed of prats – embarrassment
Not had the pleasure of that one.
Chesterfield got quite lively once though – a group of em seemed quite intent on having a fight with me for some reason!![/quote]Also remember a reception committee at Southampton as we left the train before the 4th round tie in 1986.
funniest story I have of the train is when myself a few mates met some Carlisle fans coming back from Walsall on a Saturday night after we had played at villa.
We started singing the C and A and an R and an L song that they sing when a few of our more mature bone heads came down the train looking for a bit of bother.
Their disappointed faces when they realised that it was all good natured and we were actually Latics fans and that we were more of match for them was a very funny moment indeed.Who the eff cares whether we have been on telly or not????
Certainly not been missed by me because we have enjoyed our football in the main at the traditional Saturday 3pm kick off times and not had to endure stupid kick off times at stupid times either!
Another important point is that it has kept us firmly off the radar and allowed us to quietly move into the play off positions without any fuss and with the most momentum and I think we will be a match for any of the teams we may face in them.
We will have all the TV nonsense back next season when we return to the so called promised land via the play offs .Birmingham away is also iffy as all their boozers are around new st so you have to be restrained .Not sure I would venture away on the choo choo now with this new breed of prats – embarrassment
I remember that game when pat mc gibbon score that goal at the end also and it was no picnic getting out of there in a car never mind the train.
The stone island schoolchildren may find it a harsh lesson on Monday – not a place to venture to by train imoYour not one of those little scrotes that mob up and act the pr/ck until the police arrive are you??
saw a few of them the other week in that bee hive pub at Horwich surrounded by the police but again acting up and chucking dangerous flares with women and children about with their stone island gear on and thinking up the tall stories to tell in school that Monday!
Some of them were also all over the internet talking about no shows by Bolton in Blackrod FFS ?????
A bit like arranging a meet in Parbold – you have to laugh
Take the bus or car or you will be holed up with the clowns no doubt.Port Vale game was my first ever game at Latics and what a start to my supporting career with them.
I remember the game like it was yesterday and in typical Good Friday style the weather changed from bright sunshine to dark forbidding clouds as the third Port Vale goal went in.
Cue the five Latics goals and out came the sunshine again and sheer joy from the home fans ,I also went to the Hartlepool game which was played in beautiful sunshine like yesterday and again can remember this game and were I stood.
I seem to remember the father( Mark) of Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain played in the Port Vale game along with his brother Neville I think mark went on to play for England.I agree with the Espinoza shout ,one of his best performances for some time and the midfield looks very good with him in there.
He breaks up play and has pace which creates attacks aplenty and he was easily the man of the match yesterday.Think we have more than enough to beat them and I wouldn’t be surprised if they decide to shut up shop to gain a point knowing we are able to take them apart.
I’m going for a 2-1 win up there as I reckon the nerves will start jangling knowing they are in sight of automatic promotion and to be fair they thoroughly deserve it when it eventually comes but I think we will win this game.Coldham athletic –
Don’t forget Aston Vile , Man ure , cup less palace ,Joke city!
baa diff is a cracker btw Griff !!Stupid decision but the panic created by losing that status has reached ridiculous proportions and that decision makes no sense whatsoever because they are five clear of Dulham and better placed goal difference wise meaning that five points is effectively six!
They play them next week and Dulham couldn’t do a back to back if they tried this season so they would have been sat on 35 points next week in my view with the added bonus of better goal difference than the trophy less Dulham.
I heard rumours that Magath was under threat if he had lost at VIlla – I watch match of the day and see fat plebs screaming and bawling as if the world has ended when they see their team get beaten.
The championship game with Leeds was light hearted and I shook hands with a with a Leeds fan outside when he joked about the thrashing he thought his team might get- can you imagine anything like that happening in the oh so serious premiership? -
