What we would give for a team like that today !
Wonderful end to a dreadful premier league season and probably our greatest ever achievement surpassing the entire premier league reign in my opinion.
it led to another Wembley appearance and some fantastic experiences overseas in far flung countries and we even found a new innovative chant on the back of it!
The premier league is a joke at the moment with supporters booing even when a goal is conceded against them (Newcastle take a bow) and the annual relegation battle now starting in December ????Sometimes a player can do well elsewhere and then come back and still struggle -surprised they didn’t try to use Kevin Doyle as a makeweight-good striker!
Larry Lloyd said during an evening at Latics a couple of years ago said he wasn’t a nice man which from this interview is clearly evident.
However he was a very astute football manager who acheived incredible success with two very ordinary clubs and on top of that he was probably the most prolific post war goalscorer before injury took him out.
There was always a hint of bitterness with Clough which probably came with his playing career being ruined by injury and this interview demonstrated that however there are moments though it that his dry humour comes through but john Motson doesn’t pick up on any of that.I think we should try Dicko for a couple of games and see if he can cut it for a full game given the form he is in.
Wouldn’t go for Maynard -Brentford have some good strikers I believe.Brian clough at his best bombastic ,arrogant , common sense and far sighted opinions about the game that wouldn’t sound out of place today.
Love the “I’m far more qualified than you or any of your colleagues” when talking about the match of the day presenters and this is not without foundation given his management record and his incredible goal scoring record as a player.he seems to have messiah qualities -never seen such a reaction from our supporters to a new manager in all my years watching Latics .
at the end of yesterday’s game on the pitch he seemed to be in a very long discussion with crainey which looked like a bit of a rucking in my opinion.
it was all done well away from the other players which suggests he is also a fine man manager as well as a top tactician.
In my view it won’t be very long and it’s a pity we didn’t get him last summer.Interesting one – Derby will expect to tonk us after that debacle in November and I’m sure our players will be up for this one. Most championship teams even those in form have a wobble at some point and I have a sneaky feeling for this one.Worked out just as I thought they turned up thinking it would be a coast and how wrong they were -our lads looked very well organised and jean scored a superb goal at just the right time.
they had a couple of chances but to be honest we could have won the game more comfortably and things are starting to get exciting with the way uwe has got them playing.Interesting one – Derby will expect to tonk us after that debacle in November and I’m sure our players will be up for this one. Most championship teams even those in form have a wobble at some point and I have a sneaky feeling for this one.
If he adds passing to his game he will be some player in the future ,not sure Dull tigers is the place for him though .
Anyway, the subject title doesn’t mention our beloved Bobby. It must be the PR crew screwing your subliminal mind again.
So, who/what is the poll about? No wonder nobody can be arsed voting on it.
You just can’t resist clicking on & posting can you. It’s almost like the PR crew are toying with you like a little puppet. How apt that you associate the “PR crew” with toys. Seriously, I thought you were about my age but now I’m thinking you must be that teenager who sometimes comes to the Brick with Phil and Jeff. Grow up, you buffoon.
legend
Came in on the back of a very successful season under bruce in 2008-09 and had to sell players to get players in so effectively had to create his own budget but also had the charm to keep the supporters and the chairman at bay.
Some of the greatest ever games came under his tenure Arsenal 2010, West Ham 2011,Arsenal 2012 ,Utd 2012 and obviously the cup final victory.
his teams and tactics drove me mad at times however he is most certainly a legend and I have nothing but admiration for him as a coach and manager and Everyon will struggle to hold on to him.
About we moved on though he has gone deal with it !Have we ever took maximum points over Christmas and what season and division where we
1999-2000 (first season at robin park) won all the Christmas games we where in division 2 (now renamed league 1 or FL72.?) and we where comfortably on top before we crashed at home to Coldham early in January.Had a very iffy run after that and got in the play offs when we should have walked it from the position we where in.
not taking anything away from the late John benson but that team was largely built by Deehan and Mathias and a game at notts county on boxing day sticks out – we murdered them and looked easily a class .Excellent Vince :) :)
Thanks mate. Makes you laugh all these crappy premier league sides sacking their managers when they hover near the drop zone as if it’s the end of the world leaving the greed is good league.
Sunday’s game was a corker and very heartening to know that only the 19,200 saw it in its entirety and LIVE !
What football is all about !
Nothing wrong in watching football streams and you can’t compare a local derby at home, to a league match few hundred miles away.
I’m fortunate I have no mortgage, no debt and really don’t want for much, I can watch Wigan home and away without worrying about the cost, even the missus is glad to get rid of me for the day or 3 days for our European exploits.
However, I appreciate that some fans with young families may have other priorities, particular coming up to Christmas. So yes it is great to watch it “live” as you say, but spare a thought for those who would love to go but for various reasons can’t. This thread was about information about anywhere showing Saturdays game and you and other posters have been of no help whatsoever.
I really hope Simmpool finds a link so that me, vincehill and thirty can wave to him from the South Stand at the Madejeski Stadium. B)
Fair point and it’s galling that the clubs charge ridiculous prices like last night.
£28 for away fans to sit in that awful leppings lane end (should be bulldozed and rebuilt out of respect IMO) while £10 for the home fans ?
A bit like a foreign tourist arriving in London and being charged £300 per night for his hotel while a UK citizen gets charged £100 .Excellent Vince :) :)Thanks mate. What football is all about !Anyone know if the game is on in any pubs
We are in the championship now, there is no chance of finding a live stream for a Saturday match 3pm KO.
The only time you will get one is if and when we are live on SS or BT. :(
Interesting statistic from last Sunday -last time we played Bolton in the EPL attendance 17,251 last Sunday’s gate 2000 greater.
neither side have broken any pots either so a good thing in my view. -
