Some big names on that list but the problem is that if these players are worth having why are the clubs concerned letting them go?
Far better to scout out players with hunger than ageing greedy b@stards looking for a big wage and a place on the treatment table.
Lets face it if your over 29 and on a free your probably finished as a footballer at the top level and this list proves that.
We should sign Owen and pay him £3k a week pay as you play. Will work out a very cheap signing :dry:I have heard that Holt is waiting for Lambert to set up shop at Villa and then he will move there.West Ham need a major rebuild job because they looked very poor against Blackpool in that play off final.
Norwich are one season wonders believe me they have no chance of attracting players to what is the biggest football desert in the country-200 mile radius 3 clubs?Lambert will take them apart once he gets into Villa and the job he did keeping them up still astounds me now.Oh dear another bitter soul who obviously wants us to go away to the lower divisions quietly.
The clubs coming up will probably expect to be like Swansea and Norwich and stay up with ease but i have a strong feeling that last year was a flukey one and i expect all three teams coming up to be embroiled in the relegation battle.
Panic buying is already beginning with Steady Nigel and Southampton allegedly lashing out a ridiculous seven Million fee  for unproven(even in the championship?) Jordan Rhodes.
I think Latics will start like a train and get to january virtually safe -we are due a season like this. What a daft story!!!
He may be keen on the job but im afraid he hasnt a cat in hells chance of landing it or other jobs for that matter at the present time.
Even if old twitch decides to sling off to the middle east Spurs fans will scream blue murder (just like the scousers did) if his name is even mentioned. He would get no time to do the job his way so he may as well stay here and build up his growing reputation.
He has much more to prove and the early part of next season will show if his young team has matured and his 3 year masterplan has worked.
No club is going to chance it with him until he gets Latics into the top 10 and avoids another relegation battle. You often wonder if we lost our manager could DW run the club single handed?
PR man (probably his best job-seems to have the media in his pocket),,director of football, press officer,he seems to do all the jobs with ease.Matt Phillips and Tom Ince of Blackpool for me.
He has made the RIGHT decision because he has already raised the bar with that fantastic escape last season -cant wait for next season.Loyalty is a rare comodity these days especially in football and its good to see Dave Whelan has stuck his neck out for him also.
The club is heading into a very exciting phase and i think the relegation battles could be a thing of the past from now on.
:cheer: :cheer:Talk about delusions -good laugh reading that !
I wonder how many of them were there in 2003 when they nearly went into the non league?
They are an unfashionable club like ourselves but without the charm we seem to have now as the gritty underdogs.
2ND season syndrome for them next season i see the bookies have them as favourites to go down.I didnt get the impression Whelan was pushing him out of the place when he was interviewed. He seemed almost to be talking Martinez out of it in my view.
If he goes and the club make some money out of it then so be it he’d have been lucky to get interviewed at Hartlepool never mind Liverpool after that Swansea game in march.
You can hardly say our chairman knows nothing about running a football club successfully can you? The biggest concern will be when he leaves because love him or loathe him we will be in the sh/t then.Steve Bruce with Eric Black as his assistant would be my choice
Thank Christ you’re not involved in the decision-making process then.[/quote]
I seem to remember a against all odds relegation escape and the 2nd best ever points tally in a EPL season under these two.
I suppose its because the dont wear tanned shoes eh? :)Remember my lad aged 8 when he was the mascot about 14 years ago and he was kicking in with Warney and Roy Carroll and smashed one into the top corner past Carroll when the fans were coming in.
Top quality strike!Steve Bruce with Eric Black as his assistant would be my choice if Martinez is stupid enough to take a job like Liverpool or Villa where he will get no time to turn things round.
I think he will stay though and see what this new team that he just fathomed how work will shape up in the new season.I can’t tell you how embarrassed I was when 1 Wolves chubby ran 500 Wiganers. Then about 50 chose to stay and boot him all over.If ever there was a reason to stop pitch invasions, this was it.
We have just become the laughing stock of supporters up and down the country.
Chav, youth, fannees.
I blame the Wolves idiot diving into 300 children?/fans to prove he is hard/thick delete as appropiate.
The ones who ran off were clearly little kids but no doubt this pleb will dine out on the fact he ‘ran’ Wigan on his own and write a book about it :silly:Survival every time due to the high profile it gives to the club and town.
Not being funny but this rough diamond policy as been going on for 34 yearsIt has for sure but we slipped out of this under chris Hutchins/ Steve Bruce and started buying so called ‘finished articles’ like Bent,King, Kapo,Lenzaat,De Ridder,Kirkland. All on huge money and although the current policy didnt wash with most supporters at first who can argue with it now?
We also had spells in the lower divisions were we bought expensive players who didnt deliver when they arrived (Ashcroft, Redfearn ,Howarth spring to mind). -
