another keeper –
there are rumours of Craig gordon – he’ll do or hahnemann (free)
defenders –
Grant Hanley off Blackburn – Solid, played well already and young and open to improvement
James Collins off Aston Villa – proven and dependable

Midfield –
guthrie – on a free,
Mark Davies from bolton

wide / wing backs –
danny rose – tottenham on loan
rafael – man u (or his brother) on loan

forwards-
klasnic -free
saha – free
pogrebnyak – free

Would take Guthrie and Saha

Guthrie has great feet and is in the same kind of mould as Maloney, Would be a very good addition with the football Bob likes to play.

Saha is a goalscorer all day long and isn’t one dimensional, He still has pace, Good with the head and good with the left boot from either inside or outside the box. Being a left footed striker would also add something different for Bob to utilise.

Of the others, I think Hanley would command about a 6m fee as he is well regarded, Collins and Klasnic don’t really fit in with the youngish policy. Don’t think the Bolton fans rate Davies very much and can’t really see what he would add to the midfield anyroad. Prog….. Him, I think if he is on a free would be looking to get a contract in Russia or Germany. Probably a big pay day in Russia and if he has a good Euro’s he will be in demand. Think Rafael if i am right in thinking has agreed to go to Benfica for the season, Although would be a great addition. Don’t think Danny Rose has had enough game time to fit into Roberto’s way of thinking.

Keepers wise i think Nicholls should be promoted to the bench for the confidence factor and experiencing big game atmospheres.

Personally I think Mr Whelan played a blinder. He kept up the pressure….at all the right times. Properly and rightly ridiculed their pathetic management strategies and embarrassed them for the little tinpot organisation they have become in recent years – he even brought in his old chum from ManU to further alienate them.

Farewell RMS Liverpool…….you will not be missed.

Seconded…. Bang on the money

1. Are you looking forward to it ??
2. How do you think we’ll get on ??

1. Not interested in England’s International tournaments any more but will watch anyway. The media are to blame there.

2. I have us down, Topping the group, Going on to beat Italy in the quarters, Losing to Germany in the semi’s and the Germany beating Spain in the final. (the way the groups pan out)

Nice one Roberto….could this be the first time since we joined the premier league that we have some sort of stability and continuity going into the start of a new season?

I said the same thing earlier on, Could Wigan Athletic about to be on the verge of realising it’s potential.

What an exciting season in prospect. With the form at the end of the season this club is like a coiled viper ready to strike, Be interesting to see what it can do now.

in reply to: re: Roberto – it would be nice to know #87786

Sammo is by no means the best striker in the world but he doesn’t half make an impact when he comes on for the last ten mins or so. His battling qualities and determination are there for all to see. Think Dicko needs another season out on loan, Hopefully Blackpool again if they want him, Think Holloway will bring a lot out of him, And 1 more striker i think is all we need.

The positions we need strength in are for me

RB
CB
RW
FW

I think we should also promote, Nicholls to the bench, Mustoe to the bench along with Golobart and McManaman to the bench.

Players to go, Hendry Thomas, Adrian Lopez(just too slow), Watson, Jones and Boselli.

Players who are going anyroad, Moses(most likely), Gohouri, Rodders, Diame, Stam and Kirky.

As i am typing this i have accidentally adopted bob’s philosophy. Look at the money saved on wages on the outgoings and the low wages of the good crop of youngsters i have promoted. Redmond, Robinson and Morris could also be in and around the first team. Man it’s so exciting, He can’t go anywhere surely, I can see it, I can see what he is trying to do. Please finish the job Bob. I don’t think i can stand not knowing what could have been.

So on yet another note, The players i would have in the positions that need strengthening are

RB – Well that looks to be sorted with the geeza from Valencia
CB – Bassong
RW – Bebe (loan)#
FW – I would like Owen but probably wont happen, So im praying and hoping Bob stays because he knows the main missing link is a box striker and i see no one else other than Jordan Rhodes as a prolific young finisher. Get some good money for the fringe players and use it all on him.

Me and Retired_Fan were talking about this the other day. It has to be Graeme Jones, He is the only one who knows how Martinez makes the cogs turn.

I wouldn’t worry though. I don’t think he is going anywhere. By the time Liverpool approach AVB, Guardiola or Rafa then all the vacancies will be filled everywhere. ;)

they dont deserve him with all the comments their fans are putting on twitter!!

The messageboards are worse.

in reply to: Michael Owen – Finally Time To Sign For Us? #87438

Released from Man Utd

We are all well aware of how desperate Dave Whelan has been in trying to sign him for about 8 years. He is in the twilight of his career and is the only thing we slightly lack for me. A six yard box striker, A poacher. A two year deal and relegation escape clause is very realistic now in my view. Especially as he more or less needs to stay local for his stables. Bolton and Blackburn going have paved the way for us to make a firm first move. Can’t see Whelan and Martinez idling on this one if they think something can be done. He would suit our style perfectly providing he can keep fit.

yosser,
did you desert the ‘never going again (until Whelan has spent some of his millions on players)’ brigade when things started to look up towards the back end of the season?
No big mouth, i still haven’t been. And he still needs to spend. If anything to let Martinez carry on what looks like he has maybe started. Sorry but no matter how good we have been for 2 or 3 months, nobody could envisage how 3 years of crap turned Barca style at the end. Not even the hardened fans. Yeah it looks good but it did at the end of last season too. Needs to be built on and money still needs to be spent. You can only do so much with the standard of (i’d say half) of the team.
You expect Whelan to pour in millions when you cant even be arsed turning up

I’m not going to say that the “Barca” style football could of been predicted but I think the more level headed posters on here could see things slowly but surely improving.

And you cant really compare the back end of the 10/11 season to the 11/12 as 10/11 was in large parts due to Charles indivdual performances… I think its fair to say the whole team stepped up to a new level at the back end of this season.
Salford, Many factors involved and not what the post is about. Work commitments stopped me going most of the time, But recently that has been a non-entity meaning i can’t afford to go anyway. But no, Whelan even stated last week he was preparing to cull the squad in January ready for the summer rather than spend and help to save premiership status. That sounds like even he was defeated at that point until Martinez saved it all. Doesn’t fill you with confidence. Everyone could see what Martinez was trying to do but i don’t believe for one second anyone believed any progress had been made. It just clicked like someone had flicked a switch. But i would rather be wrong than right in this instance. I don’t care how much aggro i was giving at the time, I have always stated things as they were and it was crap. I wasn’t on the board when it all changed around, I didn’t post for 3 months prior to it and the only reason i am doing so now is to reply to you. But i will leave this post alone now, I was just pointing out that Owen was available and since Boselli won’t be coming back i think it is time to get a fee for him and use it on Owen’s wages on a pay as you play OR a substantially lower weekly wage. He aint going to et a full contract anywhere im sure.

in reply to: Michael Owen – Finally Time To Sign For Us? #87437

I THINK OWEN WOULD BE GREAT HE IS A POACHER AND BETTER THAN OUR CURRENT STRIKERS HE WOULD ALSO PUT 2,000 ON THE ATTENDANCE EVERY HOME GAME.

I doubt he’d end up playing every home game. He’d certainly be the talk up at Wigan Golf Club.

Anyway, I thought we had a ‘fox in the box’ poacher in Boselli, but our style of play didn’t suit his.
It does now

Looks in Knead of new investment. The business has been crumbling for a while, Bad batch of owners you see.

in reply to: the 4 transfer targets in mind….. #87085

That article says to me he never intended on trying to stay up and Rodallega and Diame were never offered contracts.

Hindsight though, We are better without them and we all thought, Well Diame at least was our best player.
