apart from second half v manu and yesterday for 60 mins we have performed fairly well just not got we have deserved

seriously, for all the games you’ve allegedly watched, that’s the best you can offer….

personally, I don’t buy it (your feedback).

we are currently shipping goals at the rate of 2 a game (15 in 8), all pretty much legitimate (i.e. no 15x D Welbeck earned penalties etc.)

I’d say we’re getting pretty much what we deserve at present.

Most pundits will tell you if you leak goals (Martinez keeps talking about lapses of concentration / poor intensity), you’re going to make life diffcult for yourselves. Not rocket science.

We obviously need to get back to basics – start from difficult to beat / clean sheet principle, and work from there.

The ONE positive to date – Kone’s induction – unlucky to have the goal chalked off yesterday. Practically, 1 goal in 2; promising match-up with Di Santo (excellent combined goals output).

Pray Alcaraz returns against the Hammers; otherwise our 2 hotshots are going to have to score 3 to win !!!!!!!!

I think you’re missing the point here regarding Kirland’s reactions. The fact that he wasn’t expecting to be pushed in face had more of an impact than the actual impact, so to speak. It was the shock of what happened that caused him to “drop like a ton of bricks” rather than the physical contact.

He DID go down a bit mad though, Sammy. Ok, he was shocked and surprised, but most keepers would’ve stayed on their feet and probably swung a punch at him or grabbed him. There was a big size difference, with Kirkland much the bigger.

Of course, if he had done, he would’ve been loudly condemned by the powers that be, and probably given a red card and a fine.
Had he done as you suggest, there’s also the RISK that the village idiot who ran onto the pitch would have been supported by one or two other idiots (who had also entered the field of play) deciding to wade in.

Doesn’t bear thinking about, THEN what might have happened. Kirkland injury / near riot(pitch invasion) … etc. etc. …

Blh blah blah how many of you lot actually went come on own up all b///////y experts aren’t we from your armchairs

    Sudders

    OK

the floor is yours; genuinely interested to know why, in your expert opinion (if indeed applicable) the team is not shaping up at present (points-wise) ….

So wingers are allowed to out sprint our defenders week in week out then ?

Bearing in mind Ramis is a centre half, the answer is yes! You’d always back a winger in a race against a centre half because your wingers are commonly the quickest lads on the pitch. Fitness isn’t the issue – it’s pace.
Sorry, no.

You may /may not recall Des Walker (CB, Nottm Forest). Great PL player in his prime.

So the Forest song went ‘You’ll never beat Des Walker, you’ll never ..’

Moreover, if you are going to get done for pace, then take one for the team (e.g. Ramis – 1st goal …he ain’t even quick, or smart (?) enough
    to do that.

Ramis at fault for both goals !

surprised ? business as usual, I’m afraid. Extended mid-season break in Majorca (cue SW …) will do him the power of good !!
On cue.

I only pull you up when you use that metaphor from a tabloid and pass it off at your own.
To the essence of the issue (about time you did # … ) – sub-standard defender/form – practically week in /out.

Metaphor was taken to support my initial personal opinion view after the Chelsea game. I didn’t pass it off as my own (source was quoted). It has however remained most apt (why re-invent the wheel ?)

    Concept of free speech ???

What annoys me is that after the fulham game he said competition for places was in but he’s kept the same team despite the second strings efforts in the cup

That’s a fair point. I remember wondering at the time he said that who might ocme in but in fact he’s changed nothing. I’m not actually convinced he should, but why say it if he doesn’t intend doing it?
    ,
Oooh Bobby, is the shine finally atarting to fade from those brown shoes of yours?!!
hopefully, Espinoza will come in, be useful and prove his worth (competition, if nothing else); Alcaraz will get back ASAP

Unfortunately, we’ve missed Alcaraz big time; no dead cert for WHU.

All in all, very poor state of affairs, disappointingly so, considering how we finished the 2011 /12 season off.

Eufa / platini are a joke and i dont expect much of a punishment to be dished out to Serbia. He is more bothered about keeping these countries on his side so when Blatter does step aside he has plenty of friends to vote him in…
Look at the punishment they gave Lazio, 32k fine!! nothing to a football club let alone a national team..

One might even argue that the FA aren’t much better dishing out a 4 game ban to Terry re. the Ferdinand / Terry incident (Gomez got 3 at Sunderland (rescinded) for doing nowt ! – where’s the sense in that ??

The MIGHTY sir AF now wants to take Jason Roberts to task for his refusal to wear ‘ Kick It out (racism)’ shirt this weekend given his lack of conviction that enough is being done by the Powers that be ..

    Quote, unquote …

“All the players are wearing it. I have only heard that Jason Roberts is different. But he is very different: he plays a game and is in the studio 20 minutes after it. That is a great privilege.”

This wouldn’t be Alex, the one who chooses which post-match interviews he wishes to attend (BBC/No BBC), which questions are up for discussion, would it. SPECIAL and PRIVILEGED indeed. A*** more like !!

    Good on yer Jason !!

in reply to: Baines v Cole #95200
If you watched today’s game you will have noticed that Ashley Cole was being skinned all through the 90 mins. I lost count of the times other players pulled him out.

This fella also had the same view as me; B)

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/england/9616076/Poland-v-England-player-ratings.html

Also makes similar point to mine re. Cleverley – played out of position and offering no protection to Cole. Baines would have done a much better job (cover, by-line deliveries, set-pieces). Cole wouldn’t have been so exposed.

in reply to: Baines v Cole #95081

Oh dear Its down to football and Cole gets his place back

I didn’t read the posts at the beginning of the thread so my statement was about Bainsey getting the nod for the San Marino game ok.

I made a mistake just like Woy has done picking that little prick of a prim-madona from Chelsea for the Poland game.
Just like Lampard, and Terry, Cole’s best years are behind him and Woy might have just knocked the stuffings out of Bainsey, who is by far the better player at the moment. goodpost
the way Bainsey’s playing (flying) at the moment, he’d probably do a better job out on the left than Cleverley (in tonight’s team)

ability to get to the by-line and expert on set pieces….

    in reply to: Farce #95079
The fact that we were 4-0 up and drew is very much a farce !!

We ??? you’re referring to the Germans ??

4-0 up (H) on the hour, and managed to wrestle a draw from the jaws of victory against the Swedes (4-4).

Absolute shocker and arguably biggest farce of the night !

The Germans are human after all … :cheer:

    in reply to: Franco #95057

let’s just hope that we reap the benefits of the investment in him, and that he sign’s a new contract (he’s made the right noises to date).

good job, Jonesey and Bobby !

in reply to: Bent Out #94993

Read today that Lambert is looking to bring in Charlie Austin , Burnley (who?) to replace Bent. Some come-down for the once-mighty …

Makes sense, to be fair. They wear the same kit so they’ll save a bob or two on new shirts if he can snaffle a few and take them with him when he leaves. I’d start smuggling a few out now, if I were him.
What a difference a new manager can make…..

Can you imagine McLeish choosing to do the same during the latter days of his Villa stint (Austin in, Bent out)

The Villa fans would probably have arranged for men in white coats to take him, McLeish, that is, away (had they not lynched him first) !!

in reply to: Bent Out #94990
I didn’t question his goal scoring record. He is the ideal 6 yard striker. Kone is miles better than he is and in time will probably prove himself a better record in front of goal when he moves on to Liverpool or wherever it is he goes.

With you Yosser on this one; would take Kone over Bent today.

Think Kone can only get better, once fully up to speed with the demands of the PL and improved understanding with Di Santo. Crackin’ start.

Read today that Lambert is looking to bring in Charlie Austin , Burnley (who?) to replace Bent. Some come-down for the once-mighty …

    in reply to: Figs #94841

’ There is no doubting his ability going forward in terms of skill ‘

is this a tongue in cheek remark?

Figgy (apart from the odd goal from 70yrds) offers no attacking flair or support. and as for skill, id have to disagree with you on that one.

in my eyes he is a physical man mountain of an athlete. and a good defender

    I completely disagree.

I would say Figs best attribute is his ability to bring the ball out of defence and link up with or support Jean on the left.

I do agree he is an athlete of a man but he would never cut it at the centre of the three defenders IMO.
Agreed – athlete of a man, links up extremely well with JB, allows us to use full width of pitch (L to R), think he should be given the odd opportunity on set pieces; downside – can get caught out from time to time.

Back 3 didn’t do to badly back end of last season

Actually, think he plays central defence for Honduras (4); would be wasted in centre of 3 at Latics (above benefits lost), and as you say, probably wouldn’t cut it
