Don’t be ashamed tell us your reasons. As I have mentioned more than enough ( Tags Griff’s name ! ) I am off to Austin Texas in 10 days with some mates and so in order to preserve my relationship with my good lady I decided not to go. I will however throw caution to the wind an go down for the final should we win in a few hours time ! Cant believe it’s not on terrestrial ! B)

Out in qatar working. reservation made at W Hotel, Doha. Beer on tap (9GBP a throw mind!), private viewing of game (Al Jazeera) in lounge bar. Beat’s the dry zone in the apartment.

fingers crossed for the Final, all being well, will most definitely be there.

An annual spectator – as a kid – to the FA Cup Final in the 70s /80s (tickets courtesy of my grandfather, ex-VP Lancashire FA, and Chairman of LATICS back in the late 50s/60s), May Cup Final day would be some special day !!!!!!

The magic of the FA Cup !

    Come on LATICS – don’t disappoint !!!

Why blame game. It was an allround poor performance from the attack minded side of things anyway. Apart from the goal, maloney (&kone) didnt have good games IMO. But a point gained.

    Actually 2 dropped.

Case very much of major opportunity missed. QPR down to 10 etc. Ball retention very poor; one would have thought Wigan NOT QPR were playing with 10 men, happy to play down time to last 15 and then hope to nick a goal, sloppy in possession, careless in giving away cheap free-kicks, always susceptible to a goal from set-play (you could almost see them nicking a goal – admittedly not in the way it came about (open play). In the end, Maloney got us out of jail (great free-kick).

Overall, very disappointing. Given ourselves a bigger hill to climb to escape the dreaded drop (Villa in form, Sunderland likely to pick up, Stoke points in bag / better GD, Latics tough games particularly City and Arsenal). Thinking we need 11 points to stay up …. now no mean feat.

Are there many like me who have no real connection to the town?

When I was a wee nipper my sister who is older than me started seeing a wiganer who took me to a few games at Springfield Park.

The first I think was Fulham which was Keegan’s first match in charge of them.

Despite getting elbowed in the head and nearly knocked unconcious when we scored I fell in love with the team.

The only information I could get my hands on back then was a small snippet in the Manchester Evening News…

So I had to get creative and probably used Championship Manager as my main source of knowledge for the team and players coupled with buying the Cockney Latic fanzine from a sports memrobilia shop in Manchester City Centre.

Despite being born a Man U fan I have never looked back since.

I still have a soft spot for them but that turns to burning hatred when they do things like put a shit team out against West Ham on the last day of the season when we stayed up V Sheffield Utd or Potenitally fuck up our European hopes by going out of the cup V Chelsea.

There are thousands of kids like me round Manchester who I am sure if taken to a Wigan game would fall in love just like I did.

How you convince their parents who cant even be arsed to go watch their own teams to take them though is another problem in itself.

Why have they fucked up our European chances by getting beat by Chelsea ?
“potentially” as Chelsea could get to the final V us and drop out of the qualifying spots in the league…

If it was Utd V City we would be (within reason) guaranteed qualification as runner up.
don’t wish to put a spanner in the works or count chickens etc., but since semi-fimal draw was made (and before Utd went out), i’ve gone all along with a WIGAN / CITY final

    sticking to that.

    come on Latics !!

in reply to: Well Done Fulham #107222

not al all; look for 3 and effectively put them down (out their misery)

10 behind Wigan, 6 to play

switch the light off and leave when you go !

QPR – Jekyll and Hyde – game of two halves – prone to shipping poor goals – Samba at 15M GBP overpriced and has failed to shore up a leaky defence.

Harry truly has had ‘his pants taken down’, the best hopefully yet to come ….

I’m glad to see that supporters recognise the problems – physical and mental – of playing in two competitions.

There’s likely to be a reaction after the semi final too – for both Wigan and Manchester City.

Manchester City have much greater resources to overcome the problem. They can virtually field two first teams – so they have lots of players who want to make an impression.

Looking ahead, if Wigan do achieve European football, it will put a great burden on their modest squad next season.

    NEWCASTLE !!! (this season, last)

Jordi’s in the cup game at Goodison was very special.

agreed (given opposition, team effort, clinical passage of play – 3 out 3 in 3, bang, bang, bang)

Met up with Rio Ferdinand in a bar / hotel in Qatar last week.

    CLANG!!!
Man of his word, long live Rio ! (fingers crossed, all systems go wembley / cup final)

clang ? and your problem is ????????????

in reply to: Chelsea/ManUre tomorrow #106907
Difficult one to call this, whilst I reckon we would have a better chance against Chelsea, after Millwall, I’d prefer ManUre to win tomorrow.

    a) Because I’d love to see the look on Ferguson’s face when we cause the biggest upset in 25 years

    b) Both the Mancs are 100% deffo for the Champ League, whereas Chelsea don’t look certain of at least 5th place especially after loosing yesterday. Would be awful now to get to final and not get into Europe

Met up with Rio Ferdinand in a bar / hotel in Qatar last week.

Requested a couple of favours of him

    (i) photo – for benefit of my 11 year-old nephew, a staunch United fan (unfortunately)

(ii) that he ensures United get beat in Cup Semi, to improve our (Wigan’s) chances our fa cup success as I ‘m sit to the back teeth of being given a drubbing by United seemingly every time we play them.

His response on both fronts was ‘ NO PROBLEM’

Top guy, approachable to boot – not forgotten the fact that we JOE PUBLIC pay his wages, finance the lifestyle to which he’s accustomed.

in reply to: Survival and fixture congestion #106905
We really need to win as many games as possible in April. If we beat Millwall then we will have to play Arsenal during the week before the final weekend of the PL, so we would after the FA cup final (when we may be happy or deflated) we will then have to go to the Emirates and then AV at home. that will be a challenge.

Hypothetically, assuming City and Arsenal are both games too far (strong opposition, fixture congestion), win from 6 (42 points) and we STAY UP :

Win (home) – Swansea, Villa; (away) – QPR, West Brom

Other gems: Spurs (home), WHU (away)

STILL based on recent form, availability of player pool and repeat of 2011/12 close to season, DOO-ABLE *

    Keep the faith !!!!

    * Alcaraz and Kone ever-present in the run-in

    in reply to: Alcaraz #106884
Yip we are a better team with him in it.

was never in doubt (best all round central defender we got by far)

    in reply to: Today #106757

Agreed, but think that you’ll find the chap at the other end, Alcaraz, will prove as critical to the team’s success this year.

How he’s been missed this year !

Return to fortunes has coincided with his return to the team.

    Ramis, who ?
