I took Mrs Micky to a local talent show in Sams Bar last year….she paid the guy 50 quid entrance, agreed to receive 10 singing lessons on-line and drive to Scarborough for the next heat……..I said you bloody idiot. She cried and said well you won’t find another fool like me………

Roy has planted no seeds whatsoever in my mind.

We all knew that the likes of Walcott and Oxlade- Chamberalin are great young prospects playing in the EPL, but apart from Walcots 10 min cameo of super sub against Sweden, they didn’t make great claims or look outstanding prospects as some of the young uns did in teams that didn’t make the last 8.

I said when he was appointed that he wont lose too many games but again wont win many. According to the FA he’s supposed to be one of the the most technically gifted managers around, well just check the stats for this tournament. We’ve had most shots against us and had the least possession in games than any other team. Bleedin eck Pirlo had more possession and made more passes than the entire England midfield, how technically crap is that.
He then states today that he is not concerned about conceding loads of possession, he is more interested in stopping the opposition getting round the back of our defence. Hey Mr Hodgeson just re-run last nights game and check the number of times Italy “got round the back” only to be thwarted by Hart or a poor finish, it could and should have been a cricket score.

If your looking forward to the world cup qualifiers, be ready for some boring 0-0 draws against teams we should beat doing handstands. :woohoo:

Bleedin ‘ell JR….and I thought that I could be bitter. There is no getting away from the ‘stats of the competition’ but give the guy a bloody chance will you.

We had the second youngest team of the tournament with probably the least practiced for it – see my previous (Pirlo….as you seem to have singled out, has more game time under his belt than most of our squad put together) but hey! let’s continue in that good old fashioned English way of self flagellation and berate all who take up this ‘poison chalice’ that is the position National Coach.

Are you saying that in the coming years we cannot, through his (and his coaching team) stewardship put together a team that will be able to compete against some of the best in Europe (indeed the world)? because if you are you might as well throw the ‘metaphorical’ England season ticket at him on your next outing.

Like my team here in Wigan I will continue to believe that we can rebuild and move on…….without that belief and support we might as well take a leaf from the musings of Johann Georg Faust and capitulate now.

I may even get some flags for my car B)

If only I had a pound for the amount of times, today, I heard….

“better to have gone out last night than to have been totally humiliated by the Germans”.

However, like someone here may have already mentioned – quite frankly I really wasn’t that @rsed about it all after the shambles of the time wasting appointing the new manager; what I can see though are the building blocks for the future. Roy has blooded some youth and there are, in my opinion, some fine young players still waiting for their breakthrough into the senior team. Roy has a couple of years to learn from the lessons of this competition and adapt accordingly.

I suppose what I am saying is that I am quietly excited about a young, enthusiastic, patriotic team in the future.

Not too sure I share your optimism there Micky, especially with Roy as manager. I think your mate Mr Holloway might have been a better shout but that’s never going to happen. The after match interviews would have been interesting though.
In my opinion, Mr C, it’s a recipe for disaster if we bring a player back on more money than when he left.

It sends out the message to every player in the squad that if they threaten to leave and kick up enough of a fuss, they’ll get more money.

I’d guess that the offer of a wage increase to Victor Moses is an increase from a young player salary to a senior salary – but still sticking within the club’s wage structure.

If N’zogbia wanted to come back, on the salary he was previously on, I’d welcome him back with open arms, however, I really do not think that will happen and he’ll end up moving to a club for financial reasons not career reasons – which is the a blight of the modern game.

I concede to your better judgement on squad and dressing room harmony Mr Standish……..indeed to break the clubs current wage structure would be a step backwards. However, in order to stimulate the debate on could or couldn’t he, radical propositions like this need to be considered – after all if you take out the ‘football’ element to this it could make good business sense in that we could, as a club, see a profit again in the future.

Messrs Salford and Withers also make good points about Vics possible replacement I have heard nothing but good reports about young Nouha and he should be ready, soon, for the 1st team – however, we will not know when that time will be, I just hope it will be sooner rather than later.

Here is a quick quiz question…………

Apart from our ‘Arry (Arjan de Zeeuw) how many players have gone and returned to our hallowed land?

                  Tony Kelly for one
I knew you would be first……. ;)

In my heart I would like to nominate my first, and all time favourite, Sir Gordon Milne (on a technicality that he stopped playing…became manager….started playing again……hey I loved the guy).

                  Anyone else, anybody?

Did mine weeks ago with no problem.

Maybe leaving it late right up to the “guarantee own seats” deadline until they go on open sale (at higher price) on Monday has caused the problems?

                    I agree…….

……did mine weeks ago too on-line (couldn’t wait I suppose) and was smooth as silk.

We appear to have entered a new era in the ‘communication, administration, organisation, taking forward’ way of life. Long may it continue.

Moses OUT (very good in fits and starts…), NZogbia BACK IN (quality and greater consistency, team player)

                      N’Zogbia. Team Player.

Not really phrases you normally see very close to one another. ;)
Enough of a team player to be recognised by his team mates and be awarded PLAYERS’ PLAYER OF YEAR (and Supporters Player of Year) for 2009-10. B)

Moses, (understandably) still has scope for development where his decision-making (and finishing) is concerned

e.g. West Brom (H), Bolton (A)…Rodallega nearly throttled him (refusal to pass to better-positioned team-mates) !!

Granted, getting Nzogbia back would be a tall order (maybe non-starter), but if it did happen (and Moses went), I wouldn’t be too disappointed.

To witness again the wonders of NZogbia e.g. Arsenal (3-2), WHU (3-2),
                      and Stoke (1-0, assist) …great moments !

Topic certainly stimulated some debate …
To be fair, JPC, you make a good point. Comment has been passed on wage demands, however, it is on record that money is available for the right player (talk has been of increasing Moses’ wages for example).

Let’s look at the reasons people (agents) are talking about (ok only on the internet). Money…….alright it’s not reasons but reason. Should Victor move to Chelsea for a reasonable amount (because Tony says so) then why could Charles not come back to us for an increased salary? After all we have (I suppose) all agreed that it is the greed league and that they are all in it for the money only…….if his career has plummeted where he is then he can rebuild here again and we could sell at a profit again…….proper business sense and, I for one, would like to see.

The sooner the club is is the winner rather than the player…. whether it be club or country…

Jason…..it goes back to the inauguration of the game itself:

Wilfred (“Wilf”) James Mannion (16 May 1918 – 14 April 2000) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward, making over 350 senior appearances for Middlesbrough. He also played international football for England. With his blond hair, he was nickamed “The Golden Boy” (taken from Wiki)….wrote in the Sunday People in 1954:

” I would be a wealthy man today if I had listened to even two or three of the black-market propositions put to me during my eighteen years as a player. One offer alone – from a famous first division club – would have put me in clover. It was made to me, unknown to anyone connected with my own club at the time, when I had refused to re-sign for Middlesbrough. And it took my breath away.

Besides paying my club what would have been a record transfer fee – some £25,000 – these money-is-no-object directors were prepared to hand me £3000 in ready cash the moment I signed. On top of that I was to get top wages, then £12 a week, as a player; plus a “job” – I put it that way because it was a job in name only as a salesman of something or other – which would have brought me another cool £25 a week. And, just as an incidental, I was to be given £25, to be slipped to me on the railway station, merely for making the trip to talk the offer over.”

I am amazed that some people think it is a scourge of the current game (ie since $ky) but as we see,and history will show that, it happened decades before this quote.

There has been a ‘twitcher Harry’ in every decade.

As for Mr Standish’ question to discuss – elementary – it is the “society without secrets” who decide these things in the higher echelons…………………and there is no changing their mindset.

                                  Elaborate.
