Teams playing in Europe get a bye into the Third Round.
Bradford City take the competition seriously; so do Swansea.
It’ll be a bit of a burger if we can’t get pies.
I heard this McCann guy’s named banded about. If Burnley are releasing a 25-26 yr old then just like a used car there’s summut wrong. They aren’t releasing him – his contract has come to an end.
We’re going to need replacements for the Championship – and a lower wage bill.
We won’t be signing many perfect players – we’ll have to take what’s on offer.
You rate Martinez don’t you ! :)Welcome to the Lightside, Phil – I hope you find it to your liking.
I enjoyed last season under Martinez. Now I’m looking forward to next season under Coyle.
It’s a shame about the ban on alcohol at the Europa League games, though. I was looking forward to enjoying a cheeky Beaujolais Nouveau if we drew a French team. Never mind, DW is up to speed with the rules for European qualification, and his meat and potato pies should go through to the next round.
Coyle…cant be any worse than the last 4 seasons.
That’s just what the Wolves fans said when they appointed Dean Saunders. Next season they kick off in League One. Surely it can’t get any worse…
I’ve been looking into my crystal ball recently but everything appears very hazy. Would a good wash and polish with a chamois improve my predictions?
My point IT CANT GET ANY WORSEIt could get a lot worse! Look what happened to Wolves last season – they got a new manager and will be kicking off in League One next season.
I agree that Coyle should do much better in the Championship than Martinez did in the Premier League. But I doubt that he will win the FA Cup for us.
“so the 9-1 tonking we got of spurs and the spanking we go of chelski and any other you can think of,made us a laughing stock, SO can you recall any tonking of that extent that any teams coyle as managed”
Despite what you say, this clearly is a comparison between Martinez’ management and Coyle’s. Roberto has gone! Let’s move on!
If Chris eagles was any good he’d be playing in the premier league and utd wouldn’t have let him go in the first placeThat’s exactly why he could afford him. Coyle also took Blake, Mears and McKee from Burnley to Bolton.
Is Mustoe ready to step up as left back?
Is Pollitt still on Wigan’s books? I think he may have been released as a player.
Whelan should have gone for Mancini.
And does he really think that a £1 million bonus will be enough as an incentive to win promotion? Even bankers get more than that.
And if the regulars leave, what then?
You’d need a very clear crystal ball to predict our starting eleven in the Championship on 3rd August – and in the Community Shield the next weekend.
Manchester United’s team should be more predictable.
The likes of Di santo,Stam, etc wont be missed at all, just a pity caldwell isnt one of the departing :cheer:Well, that depends on who replaces them, doesn’t it.
We’ll see how Caldwell gets on in the Championship. The first thing is to get him fit. He was Player of the Season twelve months ago.
And Di Santo would have found chances far easier to come by in the Championship.
Ideally, we need players who can succeed in the Championship, take us up and then grow into the Premier League. Any suggestions for Coyle? I would have a look at the Blackpool defence.
Coyle…can’t be any worse than the last 4 seasons.
Really?
Coyle’s Premier League record at Bolton was in fact no better than Martinez’ at Wigan. He found it just as difficult as Roberto;
Coyle 2011/12 18 Bolton Wanderers (R) 38 10 6 22 46 77 −31 36
Martinez 2012/13 18 Wigan Athletic (R) 38 9 9 20 47 73 –26 36At least Coyle can say he has had recent experience of the Championship, but don’t expect miracles.
Ten years ago he joined Bolton and re-started his career.
He has committed more fouls than any other Premier League player, but has also been subjected to a similar number.
A great servant for the Wanderers.
Owen has had his good spells too!
2005/06 and 2006/07 He had two good seasons at St Johnstone, and saw them promoted to the SPL.
2007/08 and 2008/09 In two seasons, he took an unlikely Burnley squad into the Premier League.
2009/10 He left a struggling Burnley but saved a struggling Bolton.
2010/11 and 2011/12 A good season including an FA Cup semi-final was followed by a difficult season and relegation.
2012/13 Bolton made an indifferent start in the Championship.I think his background qualifies Coyle to manage Wigan. He is familiar with the problems he will face. I hope he can overcome them.
I don’t think his tactics will be as sophisticated as Roberto’s, but the situation should not be as demanding. I expect a return to a conventional back four – and probably a 4-4-2 formation with at least one wide player/winger.
But his dealings in the transfer market will probably determine his success this season. He is certainly going to be very busy!
Like i said trying put a posative spin on coyle taking over,he isnt my 1st choice and there is a lot of negativity, so the 9-1 tonking we got of spurs and the spanking we go of chelski and any other you can think of,made us a laughing stock, SO can you recall any tonking of that extent that any teams coyle as managedSo, despite what you said, you are comparing Coyle with Martinez after all! These comparisons are ridiculous.
Anyway, it’s not the size of the defeats that matters, it’s the number of them. But, since you keep on about it, Coyle’s teams have shipped plenty of goals in recent seasons.
You’ll remember that Coyle left a sinking ship at Burnley, that Bolton were relegated under him, and that he was sacked the next season because of poor results in the Championship.
2009/10 Burnley lost 5-0 at Tottenham and 5-3 at West Ham. Coyle abandoned Burnley before the big home defeat, 6-1 to Manchester City, but I’d say it was still his team.
2009/10 Bolton lost 4-0 at home to Manchester United.
2010/11 Bolton lost 4-0 at home to Chelsea.
2010/11 FA Cup semifinal Bolton lost 5-0 to Stoke.
2011/12 Bolton lost 5-0 at home to Manchester United and 5-1 at home to Manchester City.wot when we got boselliAre you saying that Boselli played in the same physical style as Davies? It’s ridiculous to even suggest it.
I hope this isn’t just another cheap jibe against Martinez. It’s time to move on.
Were did i COMPARE MARTINEZ WITH COYLE, Read my 1st post “cant remember any of coyles teams getting dicked 9-1”My apologies, aceface. You didn’t mention Martinez at all.
9-1 is an uncommon score. Foolishly, I took it as a reference to the 9-1 defeat suffered by Martinez’ team against Spurs at White Hart Lane on 22 November 2009.
I thought that you were implying that Coyle at Bolton had a better defensive record than Martinez at Wigan, something we know is not true;
Coyle 2011/12 18 Bolton Wanderers (R) 38 10 6 22 46 77 Goal difference −31 36
Martinez 2012/13 18 Wigan Athletic (R) 38 9 9 20 47 73 Goal difference –26 36You obviously had a completely different message in mind. Would you like to tell us what it was?
