AND it was a good move started by GOMEZ, played to SCOTLAND who did a nice one two with Hugo and finished it nicely with his weaker foot.
Gomez was running the game according to Sky Sports, Stoijkovic looked like he got better as the game went on. I thought he should have saved the 1st goal and I still don’t know what he was doing with that 2nd goal BUT we did hit the post twice in the 1st half and came from 2-0 down at half time to draw 2-2 which isn’t easy to do away from home no matter who you are playing. Scotland scored his 1st goal, we made 6 changes to the team due to having what I would class as a MUCH more important game at Blackburn on wednesday night and according to this mornings papers we have signed that young argentine striker and are going back in for JR so all is good, unbeaten in 2010!
Roberto, simple.
Bruce did OK whilst he was manager here, he kept us up which is what he was asked to do + in the 1st half of the 2nd season we were doing great but after January we were awful, that is the gaffers fault no matter what anybody says. He fell out with some of the players and it would seem he lost the dressing room coming up to the end of last season.
After the Blackburn game at Ewood (lost 3-0) I spoke to my dad and my brother and we were all in agreement Bruce is a fantastic manager when it comes to avoiding relegation, he gets his team to battle for points which in return keep a team from going down. We also agreed that it was time for him to pack his bags and for us as a club to take a step forward. I said we should get Roberto in as he’s wigan through and through and that’s exactly what happened.
So far, it’s been a bit of a roller-coaster ride BUT as people on here have pointed out he hasn’t had the time as yet and is still stuck with some of Bruce’s poor signings and players dating back to Jewell/Hutchings.
What Roberto has done is beaten a top 4 side in Chelsea whilst allowing his team to get humiliated at Spurs. He’s also seen his side dominate Villa at their home ground then get beat at home to a Wolves side which didn’t have half the quality the Villa side had but then go to Molyneux and win 2-0 without ever looking like losing.
Roberto brings a new style of tactic, football and passing. When it goes right (Villa, Chelsea, Wolves, etc) we win and it’s usually quite comfortably but when it goes wrong (Arsenal, Utd, Spurs) then we lose usually quite heavily. It is all about consistency and nobody knows that better than Roberto.
His aim at the start of the season would have been to do as best he could on a tight budjet using mainly the players he had been left with up until now (january) when he can offload and bring in players. Roberto will keep us up this season, we may even finish in the top half with a bit of consistency BUT what I can guarantee is that in the long run this guy is what Wigan Athletic needs and we will benefit from taking the risk and bringing in a true Wigan Athletic fan and legend.
Preston away was always the best for me. When we won 4-2 and the game we had 3,000 balloons (1 for every fan) but, there were far more than 3,000 there as I spent the 1st 20 mins stood on the edge of the pitch. The police weren’t ready for such a huge away following that day! The game after that was Reading at home which was a fantastic memory and also, because of the buzz and drama that day the Sheff Utd away game will always be a favourite of mine.
I used to love going to the likes of Oldham, Wrexham, Port Vale, Walsall, Bury, etc when in the lower leagues. My dad used to take both me and my brother, the memories live on!
Valencia is twice the player now at Utd than he was here at Wigan and has scored far more goals already. He is also getting assists in the Utd team and the fact is he’s playing with much better players under much better coaches. Charlie is playing better now than ever before! He is quality and in my opinion is doing better for us than Valencia ever did. What I do hope is he stays and doesn’t go in the summer although if a big club does come in for him I for one wouldn’t blame him leaving.
No sour grapes on my part + the de ridder transfer specualtion is old news, heard about that on sky last week and apparently we are looking to sell him but the israel club only want him on loan initially.
I am talking about this weeks transfer gossip and there is none surrounding players coming in although there is a name going to be revealed as soon as everything is sorted, etc.
There was a thread started with people guessing who it could be but nobody knows.
I mean transfers to wigan, not from wigan AND transfers that we give a sh*t about and not daniel de ridder!
I know he dived in BUT it wasn’t a 2 footed challenge meant to hurt the Wolves player, it was his trailing leg following through with the tackle.
I didn’t see much wrong with it to be honest and personally, I think if the ref hadn’t booked Stearman literally 60 seconds earlier he wouldn’t have booked Thomas, same goes for his 2nd yellow. I don’t think the ref would have sent Thomas off if Wolves had 11 men.
It is irrelevant as you say though Griff because 1 we won and 2 Thomas was stupid and needs to learn as it could have quite easily cost us the win another day against a better side.
Is there only me thinks he actually won the ball with his 1st challenge?
Aritz Aduriz from Real Mallorca is my guess.
Never mind watching it on the tele. Those that were there would have to say that hugo was different class all afternoon. Never stopped running, creating chances and threatening all day. Nzogbia was great second half but pretty woeful first half (bit like United away) and has a long way to go to be a better all round player than Valencia.
I didn’t go. My main ‘travelling companion’ has just become a father for the second time, and to be honest, I can think of nicer places to drive to on a Saturday afternoon than ‘Loverlee Wolverhamperton’
Tried to watch online, but the link was up and down.
How did McCarthy do in general? I’ve a feeling this lad is going to be a very good player.[/quote]
He was outstanding, JamesC thinks he’s slow for some reason, maybe he can explain???? but in my opinion he’s got it all.McCarthy has only just turned 19 and Bobby recently stated to the press he though he was ready and yesterday he proved it. I thought he was brilliant and my man of the match. He won the penalty through chasing a lost cause, followed up well to a good save for his goal and the ground he covered + tackles he won is what impressed me the most.
I thought Caldwell and Bramble were fantastic, only 1 piece of bad defending when Ebanks-Blake missed that sitter in the 1st half but I think that was down to communication and the 2 full backs playing his onside.
Overall a fantastic performance by the team and hopefully, we can be a little more consistent in the 2nd half of the season.
My main positive from the game is that from start to finish we were on top, 13 shots on target, 51% of possesion and we completely controlled the game even after losing Thomas (what a stupid challenge).
Does anybody remember this lad from Derby County? When they were in the prem he attracted huge interest from the likes of Villa, Spurs, City (before the big cash) + a few others.
He is now a free agent and has been since around the summer period after being released by Derby. His career has been plagued by injuries and it looks to have ruined a good prospect in Barnes.
He is still only 21, been training with Birmingham but has now gone to West Brom for a trial.
Shame really, always thought he was a good player who could make a name for himself.
I am not for 1 minute saying we should sign him. I’ve just seen his name mentioned on sky sports new about going to West Brom training on trial and looked at his wiki page. I wouldn’t want us to sign an injury plagued player, we sold Jimmy B at the right time and look at him now! People were asking for him back here not long ago. No Thanks!
Not good enough to even make the Fulham bench, why do you think we should sign him?
Tell me this, when we play Fulham do you expect to win the home game and maybe win/get a point from the away game? I know I do so why should we sign one of their rejects?
We are looking to offload sh*t, not sign it!
Big useless Jock or defensive collossus? According to Celtics fanzone website the huddleboard.com he’s the former. When said Bob should buy more British players I did not mean Scottish.
The lad hasn’t even put a Wigan shirt on yet!
There’s just no pleasing some folk :!:
