That header against Peterborough in the 2nd round of the cup will never leave me. When you are 11 heroes are real heroes even if they cost pennies and were never in the national papers.

Anyone who asks me who my favourite Wigan players were is amazed when I say Geoff Davies,Billy Sutherland and Harry Lyon. 100% every time, enjoyed it and appreciated the people watching them- but then I was young and naive then.

            top choices them. :D :D :D

if we are all behind them, wont it take too long to come out of the tunnel.
COME ON WIGAN on a serious note.

I wouldn’t say Martinez out, but a result like this has been on the cards for a few weeks now, maybe not 9-1, but a big scoreline. I think this is the game that people will finally realise…

                1. Martinez will see that alot of the players he has brought in are rubbish. Fact. And the some of the players that were already here are rubbish too, and we’ve failed to get rid of them and move on. Scotland, useless (As I said all along) Gomez, poor again, Edman too old, Melchiot terrible (As I said a few weeks back but everyone slated me for it) Boyce not up to scratch either. Kirkland’s overrated too.

                2. Martinez will see that playing players out of position will not work. Rodallega MUST go upfront, N’Zogbia MUST be on the left wing, Scotland and Gomez MUST be on the bench at best.

                3. Everyone will see (If they haven’t already) that we need to invest some of the money gained from the sales of Palacios and Valencia (not a cheap shot at Whelan by the way) into the current squad. A no nonsense defender is evidently needed, a right winger is needed as we nothing going forward today, and most of all a striker. These 3 positions must be a priority come January.

So positives can come out of the game, not in terms of performance, but the reaction to the result will be key. We must address the problems, and the players need to show some fight. I don’t care who you are, or who you’re against you cannot lose 9-1 to anybody. Fact, and we need to make changes to improve performances. We need a clearout in the summer, regardless of how we do this season.

So come on Latics, lets show some of the stuff that beat Villa 2-0, some of the stuff that beat Chelsea 3-1. Because on our day we can be decent, we just need to tighten up. Do the basics right. As evidently we aren’t at the minute.

                Keep the Faith!

Good post Duke i agree but doesnt it make you wonder how we can be up for one game and fall apart in another. It baffles me.

Is Edman going to replace Figueroa today.
No mention of him in the team news
                  or am I missing something

Edman cant play, got concussion against Blackburn res so he is ruled out.

Yes… this season he will… BUT a better question is.. Will he be here come february… Few people seem to think he’ll be another good player to go soon as somebody offers money due to Big daves greediness

BIG DAVES greediness is what is keeping us in the prem check Pompey for instance. The club has to be run like a business to survive against the so called big boys who owe more than you can imagine.

Yes im dissapointed with the result, but the fact is bobs team is now starting to take shape.Yesterday we controlled the game for long periods of the game with some neat football and good 1touch passing, our downfall was some pish poor crossing into the box, at times no urgency. brown did his homework and roughed up scharner which resulted in him going off injured and that no hoper gomez coming on, in my eyes sinclair would have to start to had some pace and flair with rodders

                      good call.

Edman looked great when he arrived, before that serious injury he got.

A really good player, I think.

the only player we have that has real class.

Just read Lee McCulloch could be playing as a centre half tonight, he was half decent in the air, as was Jonesy, Campbell, Methven,Bradd etc, but who was head and shoulders (excuse the pun) above the rest? I’m gonna be controversial here, my vote goes to Andy Holden.

                          Sir Harry Lyon without doubt.

Because we won on Saturday, I noticed a load of smirking and people getting all cocky again. Doesn’t take much, does it? Let’s have it right, West Ham were below par, and we, although slightly improved, were not much better.

The match was scrappy and could have gone either way. If they’d scored first, they’d have won. Yes, I think we had improvement in our performance, but I was still alarmed at people getting cocky about it.

For Christ’s sake, calm down, and let’s not go over the top!

Arsenal and Chelsea next, and I’ll be very surprised if we get anything from either game. Our next chance of points is against Hull, and then after that we have City.

I suggest people don’t get carried away, just yet. As if and when we are getting beat, it won’t be taken as hard.

to get carried away is what supporting a team is all about,it must be one hell of a waste of 90 minutes in your case.

We won, but we were abysmal. If you enjoyed that, I can only assume your favourite Latics team included Wayne Entwistle, Phil Daley, Andy Ainscow, Don Page etc.

not brilliant but i could see the progress we are making with the new system,i quite enjoyed it and looking forward to more improvement.

I actually thought Gomez had a fairly decent game.

He drew 2 or 3 saves from Green, and he never shy’s away from wanting the ball.

I think people need to get off his back.

sorry but he is far too slow. How many things did he create ??? He is supposed to be our cutting edge, yet is blunter than blunt Blunt McBlunt from Bluntsville. AND if I had a free role then I’m sure I could have 3 shots on target in 90 mins play[/quote]
not slow in movement but slow thinking, you have no time to stop and play the ball thinking players will stand off, modern prem players move quicker than you think and close you down quicker ,it will take time to adjust but i think he has the ability.
