Portsmouth it is. He flew down last night, and it’s been on the cards for over a week – hence the mystery illness.

Try Fulham.
Portsmouth booked him on the Manchester to Southampton Flybe flight, have put him up at the Solent Hotel and have gave him a medical at Eastleigh yesterday afternoon.

So, if he’s going to Fulham, they’ll be mightily hacked off.
Agree Canvey Island but look what happened after that in was onwards and upwards, gossip has it that Whelan went into the drssing room after that game and told all the senior pro’s that Jewell was the man and they could all f*** off.On talk sport yesterday they aired the interview with Ian Holloway who said his players listened to him ,but all the touchline instructions from Martinez were seemed to be ignored by Wigan players either they could not understand or prepared to ignore make your own conclusion, but is there a troublemaker in the camp?

Wrong mate, that was after the Wrexham defeat in the auto-windscreens, or whatever it was called then.

Perhaops, now is the time for him to visit the dressing room again.

Knowing nothing about it at all, but if I had to pick a nigger* in the woodpile, I would point the finger at Scharner. Totally unfounded accusation of course, but that would be my guess if I had to pick one.

* can you still use that phrase?
Griff I don’t think that accusation is at all unfounded………didn’t anyone see Scharner at the Wolves game openly defy Roberto’s instructions from the touchline……………raising his arms and ‘shooing’ the instuctions away. He got a bl00dy gobfull from me the lazy pranuck.

We need someone else in to support Roberto (see my views on the “we’re going down” thread)…..someone to help play the ‘good cop/bad cop’ routine. Roberto remains the Mr Nice Guy whilst lazy playing staff get their harris’s kicked.
Holloways comments after wednesday sums it all up,the players need to shut up and listen to what the manager says.

. a new goalkeeper-kirkland is awful.im sure martinez cud get a decent spanish goalkeeper.
.put boyce back in defence and sell schaner to anyone that will have him.
.dont play gomez as i cant see what he contributes to the team.
.get a playmaker who can pick out that decisive through pass to split defences.
.get two more 5 million strikers who no were the net are.

do all that and we’ll be as jolly as ever ;)

not alot to ask then, you are right about kirkland and sharner, gomez needs a bit more time to adapt to the prem as for forwards i think we have what we have.

Sharner wont be in the team, because he will be at Aston Villa.

Have to say, Valencia was a FAR better player for them, than he ever was for us.

Did nobody else notice Neville, Evans, and Vidic all discussing something, and pointing towards the right wing, as they waited for our players to come out for the second half?

I think the conversation may have gone:

“Get the ball to Valencia, so he can run at that left back. He’s not so good”.

Looks crap this season, Figueroa. Time for Edman to come in.

my sentiments also Edman is class he deserves a chance to show it.

Cover price is £18.99.

I still think £15 is too much.

If he did have it at half price and sold twice as many then he’s no better or worse off.

Exactly.

He says he’s giving ALL the proceeds to the new club venture, so I’m surprised that a ban of his business ability has not thought about the price more. He’d sell more at a lower price, and possibly end up making more money, than he will at this expensive price. Let’s be honest, at this moment in time, people will be hard pushed to spend £18.99 on a local millionaires autobiography. Young street urchin, get’s a break in sport, works hard to get success…..(Jesus, is this Karate Kid?)….suffers a bad injury, ends up having to pack up through it, gets compensation, buys a market stall, then a shop, then some bigger shops, then a football club, helps them have great success, and bingo, the story is over.

I’d like to read his story, but not to the sum of £18.99.
I am with you there lads. I think after Sat match against Villa everyone thought we had turned into Barcelona, Liverpool or Chelsea (never Man U can’t stand them). Anyways we did come down to earth with a bump but for Gods sake this is when the lads need us. Now I can understand being disappointed if it was the end of the season and we were fighting for suvival.
So come on get behind the lads and Roberto on Sat AND PLEASE NO BOOING or I will come and get you!!!!

UTD had such a bump as well, dont see them berating evryone at the club, lets get real we support a football team and you know what happens in football its unpredictable.

Wasn’t it 16? At Villa I saw alot of Martinez 16 shirts.

When Bobby played for us it was before all this poncy Premier league names and squad number malarky.
It was 1 – 11. You knew what position each player was playing by the number on his back. Thats how it should be, how stupid does it look when, for example, number 49 Smith comes on to replace number 64 Jones.
when he finished playing for us his squad number was 16 .

Or what ever its name is. Fans boycot that stand till its name is given a latics hero name like Harry lyon, Jason Roberts, Graeme Jones. Get in the corner of the West stand. That name must be never uttered on the breath of a true blue.
Imagine Anfield with a Dixie Dean stand or Citehs council stadium having a George Best stand or the main enclosure at Old Trafford cricket ground being named The White Rose Enclosure. Imagine Paddys bar at Ibrox or the Union Flag Flying over Celtic Park (it should). What about the Tangerine Bar at Deepdale or an Alan Shearer stand at Turf Moor.
This could only happen at Latics. At a time when we are finally not the underdogs in our part of Lancashire. When we were the underdogs that vermin club would have gladly and arrogantly ground us in to the ground. Get out of that stand now and remember the insults and mockery. Never forget and let them know on any occasion that we are top dogs now.
Actually the Wigan cycling club stand has quite a nice ring to it.

why should i consider moving from a seat where i have had for years, with a good view and good people around me just because it is called the b….. or whatever get real and sort your life out.

Bobbyswigan,
I also was there last night and will continue to go but you are missing the point.

When whelan took over and we bought “quality” and came up through the leagues we were still unknown and money talks with players in lower divisions. Now we are in the prem and have been for a few years people know wigan and what we are all about as a club.

When we first got to the premier league we were still unknown and players coming to play for us were excited at the prospect of a new club with a romantic story of how they rose through the leagues and saw it as a chance to build something.

Fast forward four years and the crowds have dwindled since our first term, and players realise that the new club are just a team punching above there weight in the big league. Sad though it is, but it is a fact.

pskl,
It is not the fact that are crowds are small that does not atract players, it is the fact that are stadium has a capacity of 25000 or so and it isnt full each home game. If the stadium was 16000 seater and was full every game it would not be an issue. This is because it seems like the support is there and present but 9000 empty seats and 4000 away fans on tuesday evening doesn’t go towards attracting these “big signings” posters on here talk about.

I am not having a go at our crowds, I think they are good for a town of our size. But the point is that we will never attarct the kind of players that dreamers on here think about, we have always done an excellent job of buying talent from abroad and bringing them on. When big clubs come in for these players they immediately want to leave for bigger and better things and that is just how it is.

When we build a team and need a few players to take it to the next level a bigger club comes in and takes away are best players because the players heads are turned, and the MANAGER in charge decides to sell them. Dave whelan is not the reason we sold palacios, cattermole, heskey, valencia, ellington?(sorry had to throw that one in), roberts, bullard, baines, to name but a few. The manager in charge at the time these players were sold realised that bigger clubs had turned there heads and they were no longer wanting to play for Wigan.

Whelan is not the greatest of chairmen but he is english, from wigan and has a few quid. I prefer to have him in charge rather than a foreign muppet who is just using us as a toy.

I love our club but as my original post says I think we as fans should get real.

nice post 81

Time that those who don’t want to face the truth decided to go elsewhere. Whelan is running the club on a shoestring budget and look at the problems we’ve got, (sells Cattermole after saying he is going nowhere), and fans who wont wake up and recognise the danger signs. ..
………………… as Mark Twain said in 1897.

I decided, on the demise of rivals, that I would not bother registering or posting on the new Cockney Latics message board. This was because I grew tired of the ” absolutely hilarious ” posts of the various multi-posters and because there wasn’t really much to say that hadn’t already been said.

I have been forced out of retirement by the absolutely pathetic posts of people who claim to have supported the latics since time immemorial (Springfield Blue et al ). If they consider that the loss to Wolves on tuesday was such a big deal then they are lying when they claim to be a supporters at all, let alone for fifty years. I won’t bother repeating the real disasters that have befallen us over the years, because they are well documented, but the loss of one match pales into insignificance in comparison.

Roberto Martinez is completely changing the playing style of the club. The result will be more pleasing on the eye but there are risks involved. The biggest risk is that the transformation may take too long and result in relegation. The transformation will take time because we need players who have the necessary technical ability to play the way that Roberto wants ( I don’t think we have enough of them yet ) and it will also take time to adjust. We also need fans who have patience and understand what radical changes are taking place.

Springfield Blue and the others are charlatans because a “true” fan would feel pain and not anger after tuesday night. They would share the pain of Roberto Martinez and the players who were desperately trying to win for us. They would not attack them in such a childish, stupid, and pathetic way.

I felt pain because, after all these years, I still feel that I am part of Wigan Athletic and I share in both it’s joy and anguish. I would invite Springfield Blue and the other consumate moaners to crawl back under their various stones – you wont be missed at “New Springfield”.

It is precisely because I have Latics blood flowing through my veins that I am angry at the dire performance that was presented last night. On that performance it didn’t look as if they were desperately trying to win. Martinez said that theteam were tired after playing Villa on Saturday. How my heart bleeds for them. They should try working eight hour shifts, nights on a regular basis or even going down the pit and working every hour available to bring up the family. Then they could claim to be tired!
I think the reason he said they are tired was because some had been all round the world on inter duty.

Sorry Prescott but you must have been watching a differnt game than me. It was utter rubbish. If the chairman doesn’t get the right type of player in, and to do that he will have to spend some serious money then it is relegation. The sooner he sells the club to someone who is prepared to take it seriously the better. I was there before Whelan and will be there after him.

Is this another pearl of wisdom? Who in their right mind would buy Wigan other than another multi-millionaire Wiganner? (And there aint many of them about) Do you think a foreign owner would take it more seriously than Whelan?

Get a grip. It was a bad performance. Every team has them.
Anyone would be better than Whelan. At least they would spend serious money to support their investment. I long for the day when I see a camel tied up outside the stadium in the Chairmans parking space. Sooner Whelan goes the better. He will be the downfall of this club.
Whelan was not on the field last night so how is he to blame,we fielded the same side that tore Villa apart.Last night was a differnt sort of game we will have to get used too but it cant happen overnight. The players stuck to the tasks set them and tried to make it work, yes we need another way to play when things are not working out but give it time.
