As I’ve previously posted I think Moore is a cracking forward who desperately needs playing with a partner and will have no shortage of options should he leave prematurely. Options thin on the ground with Windass gone and Geldhardt out tonight. Lowe not the answer so we keep getting back to Garner who certainly seems out of favour with Cook. Whenever asked he has done well so why not give them a go together instead one or the other. Its up to US to get results and not hope those around us faulter and take the game to the opposition……As Alex Neil said he sighed relief when Moore exited to be replaced by Garner, and was happy they didn’t have to play out last 10 defending against both. What other options do we really have ?… If we’re not good enough then I can live with it but not his merry go round selection of 3 out of form alternatives.
Thing is Cook is the boss and expect to see four defenders including Naismith out of position as left back/ wing back. Massey Williams and Lowe in some tangled mess as attacking mid, Moore or Garner feeding off scraps and Evans with Sam as the defensive mids. Thats the way he likes to play and he is not for changing.
1 nil Latics. Moore if he starts.
Huddersfield win and a fantastic result for Luton increases the pressure for tomorrow. Draws not enough now and no reason we can’t match their results..just need offensive line up and go at it from the off. Over to you Mr Cook….Just hope O.G. is on top form again and Garner joins Moore with Pilkington and Geldhart on either side but pigs don’t fly. Hopefully lady luck can support O.G. and they can bring us the three points again.
The likes of Gary Teale and David Lee are long gone.
More’s the pity, as this wing back malarky is dull, boring and non productive.
The sooner proper out and out wingers return, the better.
Or just try pretending it isnt the 1970s where 442 is king.
Did we get into the Premier League in the 70’s. It got us automatic promotion then and was far better to watch than anything we have witnessed since. As Horc suggested it could be worth a try or at least an experiment for a year or two. Things couldn’t be any worse and if it did go worse after a year or two we could revert back to Cook/Joyces style of turgid tripe.Cook as said allready a couple of Saturdays side took knocks and may miss out.
Sounds like Massey and Evans will be back that in Cook talk and Pilkington and Jacobs will miss out.
Anything’s possible.
Hopefully O.G will keep his form going. If you use wing backs then the likes of Lowe (natural winger) doesn’t get anywhere near the side. It unbalances the shape. I hate wing backs at our level with a passion. It’s not rocket science if Lowe plays give him his natural position and adopt a flat back 4.I’m not sure what you mean by wing backs Nuneaton? I call them that in a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation. Like when we played Preston. In our formation I just think they are full backs in a flat back four which get forward to help the attack. Pretty much the standard for any full back on the modern game.
We lined up against Nob End with a 5-3-2 but with the so called wing backs making the odd pathetic run up the flanks. Off the 2 only one was a striker and the three were three defensive midfielders. A pathetic effort and demonstration of negative football that worked at Leeds but back fired against Nob End.
It was a great bit of wing play by Lowe for the goal yesterday and the kind of thing I remember him doing for Pompey. But for some we play him central and that doesn’t seem to be his strongest position.
Well, that’s Cook to a tee isn’t it?
Round pegs in square holes is all he ever does.
Perhaps if he played him in his natural position he may get involved more and be more productive.Same with Naismith, there is no doubting he is a decent footballer, but we had a left back on the bench yesterday, so why play Kal there, and the ineffective Jacobs on the left wing.
Lowe is terrible in the role where Cook plays him, is it his fault or the managers?
He was never anywhere near Moore to get his knock downs and Moore made his feelings known more than once.Garner would be far more effective in that role, but I suppose that would look too much like playing with two up front for Cook, and that is where the problem lies, he is too stubborn to admit that the system he plays needs changing.
Everytime I have seen Garner, he works his balls off and causes havoc and panic in the defence of our opponenents, surely it must be worth a try playing him either off Moore or just behind him where Lowe is supposed to be.
The ideal player to play behind and sometimes alongside Moore could have been Windass but not for Cook so ideally it should be Garner.Agree Lowe is terrible so why not give the poor lad a chance and see how he performs in his correct position. However he would be on an hiding to nothing if Moore wins crosses but theres no other bugger in the box to latch on to the balls Moore wins.
I wonder why Cook doesnt like playing with wingers and insists on playing square pegs in round holes.Slept on yesterday, the first half wasn’t good to watch at all. We had a patch in the second half when we played really well, driven by Pilkington, we also showed a fantastic level of commitment defending the lead at the end. Player wise picks was good, Ballogan looked steady, Lowe looked lightweight and made bad decisions at key times (like when he should have pulled the ball back in the first half) but he did contribute well for the goal, geldhart, I think he may have a touch of the Bertie big bollocks about him, see him moaning near the end when the ball went across the goal instead of going chasing the ball down into the corner?
Biggest thing is the the three points, hard fought against a tough but not great sideJust wish some manager could see what Cook saw on Lowe and take him off our hands.
Possibly one of our worst signings ever.If the proposed sale is due to Brexit, and they end up selling to someone like Dominic Chappell, Ken Anderson or that bloke who bought Bury, then will the 60% of Wiganers who voted for Brexit still think its worth it?I think they are selling to Stanley as has been reported. I don’t know where the daft excuse of Brexit comes from. These lot took months and months to do due dillegence and they were also aware all through this period that the country was leaving the Brexit club.
Citing Brexit as reason for selling. What a crock of shite. They knew this before they bought the club. What is going on at WAFC. Another reason given is under performing on the pitch, HELLO, you lumbered us with an invisible board who have stood by and watched while Cooko destroys the club. Something smells funny here. Worried very worried. Are these not supposed to be the safe hands and the people who could take us forward. Well according to Uncle Dave they are.
No you cant, cheeky get!!
9001.Arry.
Forgive me mate. It’s an age thing or a frustration thing or just the bloody red wine.
By the way, a great point today but so annoying it’s not three again after taking the lead twice. These were the days.Great picture donny.
Do you ever get the same feeling walking to the DW as you did walking down 1st, 2nd or 3rd Avenue?
I know I don’t.
Not at all. That was our home. Our spiritual home.A point gained in view of the disallowed goal and I expected nothing.
The picture looks very different today with the teams below getting brilliant results away from home.
I felt we needed 10 points this month from this run of games and that now looks a very tall order.
That said we are only four points worse off than at the same stage last year which is surprising. It is surprising but considering we were meant to be pushing on from last season it’s quite alarming and with the injuries we had last season it makes matters worse.
A quality wing back and later midfielder plus a decent number ten where not replaced and this may be the crux of the problem.
At least every month more we keep Cook his contract is ticking down and the compensation cheque gets smaller.Forgive me mate. It’s an age thing or a frustration thing or just the bloody red wine.
By the way, a great point today but so annoying it’s not three again after taking the lead twice. These were the days.
