Evening!
Thought I’d take the chance to ask for the Cockney Latic members’ support.
I’m in a local band (The Klang) and was just wondering if anyone would be willing to take the time to have a quick listen & leave us a bitta feedback.
3/4 of us are WAFC fans, and unfortunately the other fella follows an oval-ball sport (we’re working on him ;))
Our new songs can be heard HERE
If you do get chance to listen, please do leave us a comment on here (or Twitter – @theklangwigan) and I’ll pass any feedback on to the rest of the lads.
This will be my only plug, I promise!
Back to the football chat ;)
Cheers!
(P.S. I realise this may be in the wrong section – admins let me know if it needs shifting somewhere else!)
Really good.
A few of them remind me of Teenage Fanclub and some of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – which is a very good thing in my opinion.
Not sure about the BRMC likeness Jonny ! Anyhow folks next month sees the release of Specter At The Feast and I shall be hooking up with the band in Austin Texas end of April. The album is fuckin great by the way !
I am not comparing ticket prices at all, I am saying that £300 at the end of the day is a fair chunk of money to many ! Why do people always try and justify the cheapness of our season tickets ? If I am being honest I would say that on the whole this season I have not had too much enjoyment from my outlay of £300. Anyone who has will be from the easily pleased section ! All I can say is it’s a good job I am minted !
If he wants a big club to come in for him he had better get his act together then because he has been mediocre for several games now !
I am surprised that there is no stupid talk of England winning the next World Cup after beating the worst Brazilian side that I have ever seen in my life ! Even though I will be on Germany at 8-1 to win it outright, I will be having a cheeky tenner on Argentina at 5-1 because I have a hunch that the icing on the cake for Messi is being whisked as we speak ! :)
We can will the World Cup? Have you changed allegiances Herr Fuhrer?
The thread title is for the benefit of you lot ! ;)
Oh, and can someone please indulge me, what is Martinez’s win percentage in his time at Latics? I would be interested to know.
In league matches only, we have won 34 out of 139 under Martinez which is 24.46%
Our full league record under Martinez is:
Played 139
Won 34
Drawn 40
Lost 65
For 148
Against 249
Diff -101
Pts 142/417 – 34% gained
34% of points gained equates to roughly 38pts a season which is more than enough to survive each season ! Fuck me, I sound like a Lightsider ! The crux of it is, if you are easily pleased and just simply grateful for being in the Prem then this is for you and perfectly acceptable. If you think that the ‘3 Year plan’ is behind schedule and wouldn’t mind moving on to the next level and want value for your money ( £300 is £300 ! ) then you are entitled to question the current league position ! :S
Open goal ? Read my reply to your Gomez comment, it appears that I am suggesting that you are wrong ! You however Mr G haven’t got a leg to stand on and have been corrected and you don’t like it do you ! Anyone can turn around and say they wrote something wrong on purpose as a test ! Hold your hand up and just admit it you stubborn bastard ! :)
Last word on the subject from me…
We DID NOT abandon the possession game that we have tried to play for 3 and a half seasons. At the risk of repeating myself, we simply played better during that period and at a quicker tempo, generally.
You go and ask Martinez if he abandoned his short passing game during that period and see what answer you get.
And Runcorn, I agree, you are absolutely right. I have said for three and a half years that ter weay we play is, in my opinion, a good way to play but, for it to be effective, it needs to be done at a much higher tempo than we normally do. Say, like the 9 games at the end of last season, for example, thereby proving my point.
If Phil, or anyome else thinks we went ‘direct’ late last season they are seriously deluded. We just palyed our existing style well.
Perhaps (and only perhaps) the loss of Moses has aseen us lose a bit of creativity in the final third this season but the way we get the ball to the final third has not changed one little bit.
By more direct I meant moving the ball forward at a quicker tempo and not pissing about with the sideways and backwards stuff ! This is my whole point and you seem to have been confused by it ! To recap- Prior to that run we pissed about with tippy tappy going nowhere shit and then all of a sudden it was like “Wow” the penny has dropped ! They have now reverted back to tippy tappy style. Call it a slower tempo if you like but I call it pissing about for the sake of possession and if RM thinks that by having plenty of that sort of possession gives you a better chance of scoring then he is wrong ! ( Yes managers can be wrong ! ) All the people sat around us in the East Stand start getting agitated when the crab tactics kick in big time! We need to defend with a slightly higher line and start taking the game to the opposition and be more positive if we are to get out of this mess. Our current tactics have teams closing us down quickly and pushing us further back because of the very slow tempo ( We shall call it that if you like ! ) B)
PS For the benefit of folk who haven’t read my original argument on this subject here it is again…
“We do tend to overcook it a little and attempt to walk the ball into the net ! Last season on that dream run we seemed to dispense with the tippy tappy sideways and backwards stuff and got the ball through to the business end of things swiftly and efficiently. Unfortunately the former tactics seem to have crept back into our game !”I wish someone would fix the next dozen of our games in our favour    :blush:Cue Bob The Builder, can he fix it ? no he cant ! :)
You’re wasting your time with this lot mate ! If it aint a covers band or some well established old band then they aint interested ! Keep writing your own stuff mate and keep music evil !

Did we bollocks!! All we might have done was play with a little higher tempo! The style was exactly the same! Jesus, talk about making things up to suit your argument!!
Watch the games back and the sideways backwards shite was definitely dispensed with ! As you say the tempo was quicker but it was also more direct ! I am afraid Griff that you are wrong this time !
What 90 minutes of every game? Don’t talk ridiculous, man!
Gomez played almost all of those games and, according to most of you lot, he can’t knock a ball forward at all, so how do you work that out?
On the contrary, our late revival was kick started last season when Gomez went off at Norwich and Maloney came on.
In the games that followed Gomez hardly played at all with the only notable exception being Arsenal away.
See, I give Phil and open goal and he even misses that ;)
My point wast that the overall style of play (ie possession based) did not change at all, we just played with a higher temnpo and performed better than we have been doing this season.
That possession chestnut again. Follow stats throughout Europe and you’ll see the team with most possession doesn’t win as many games as you would imagine, we are 1 prime example. It’s not how long you have the ball it’s what you do with it when you have it !
There’s nothing chestnutty about it. It’s common sense. You’re more likely to score if you have the ball than you are if you don’t have the ball, and the opposition are less likely to score if they don’t have the ball than if they do have it.
Simple as that.
I agree with Standish here,
I would rather see us pass the ball and play attractive football, even if we loose more.
I like Roberto and back him and his style 110%
I am saying we dropped the piss about tactics and I have never questioned Gomez’s ability ! With all due respect sir you are wrong ! B)
I’m wrong because you said so? I don’t think so, Phil. Well just have to agree to disagree.
You will feel the force of the Darkside on this one ! ;)
Oh well, Christ knows how I’ll sleep tonight. It will help knowing that I’m right.
But you’re not ! Don’t have nightmares !
Couple of pisspots the pair of em !

It hasn’t to be taken literally just like football hasn’t to be taken too seriously ! On saying that, needs must I suppose ! :cheer:
They were talking about this on Talksport the other morning and i’m sure Ronnie however you spell his second name said, him, Chris Evans & Pierce Morgan? had chipped in to send him to this drying out clinic in USA.I don’t wish Gaza any harm at all, but he’s more fortunate than most alcoholics are with all the help en support he gets.
Precisely my point ! He has had shit loads of money and has spunked it all away, He has been in the Priory and other top class rehab establishments, now you cant do that on £50 a week especially when you have tabs and white lightening to buy ! :S
