RIP Owen.
I voted ‘No’ but, being a West Stander, I mean ‘No thank you’.
Does the best team in England win the FA Cup or the League cup every year?
Well, the best one certainly won the FA Cup in 2013! However, the comment was ‘The best team rarely wins the world cup.’
So, do we award the World Cup on the decision of a Mutty, a committee or some such?
I’m also with Jimmy Sirrel and Sammy, “the best team always wins, the rest is only gossip.’and that also makes Russia the better team because they won the game.
Just a thought but perhaps we shouldn’t allow ‘little’ or ‘worse’ clubs to be promoted to the Premier League and just allow the ‘bigger or ‘better’’ clubs, then Sunderland may have a chance.
your like a rat feeding on people’s miss fortune s your a horrible kind of klumps supporter.
Thanks for your contribution to the thread. Your grammar is appalling though.
Now, back to Nuneaton’s more relevant (and adult) point. The Argies are a divided lot. Messi hasn’t got his Barcelona team-mates with him to set him up for hat tricks against crap opposition, and neither has Aguero. They are a poor side with a couple of massive egos who cant accept that by virtue of the place and time of their birth they are forced to play amongst players who they consider inferior. It doesn’t help having that fat coke-head watching their every move either.
The best team rarely wins the world cup. If it were on performances alone, then possibly Croatia should win it, but Brazil really need to up their game if they want to be 6 time winners. Its a very open competition, and in terms of pure entertainment, arguably the best I recall watching
The best team rarely wins the world cup.
Would you explain please, given that the purpose of championships is to determine who is the best at the time? You may argue that England weren’t the best in ’66, but they beat both Portugal and West Germany in the knock-out rounds. Similarly the Netherlands, Cruyff et al., couldn’t beat the Germans in ’74. Being the best is about winning, not how nice you play. You sound like Wenger.
…and if he does play and has a good World cup?
Be careful what you wish for…
Teams expect the ball to go back from kick off these days, I’d love to see Latics shock a team by kicking off by having Jacobs set off on a spring in centre circle run onto the ball.. Tapped forward by the kick off player and another two or three players quickly sprinting up in support.Could catch a team out cold like that.
Nah, Roy Race used to do that every other week in the 60’s
Before we had ‘I’m a believer’, ‘We built this city’, etc., ‘Blue is the colour’ was our adopted song for the 1973 FA Trophy final. Didn’t bring us much luck though.
I might be wrong, but didn’t England also play a game at White City stadium? It’s only same as Euro 96 when England were based at Wembley.
In 1966,north west fans were lucky to have the Brazilians and Pele based here. They stayed in Lymm and were impeccably behaved, being very open and friendly to the locals. They were based at Goodison, as were Portugal with Eusebio. The quarter final of Portugal V North Korea, the surprise team of the tournament, was also played at Goodison, Portugal winning 4-3 in a classic game.
Any admittance of any kind of fixing or foreplanning a tournament totally undoes any credibility and respect of Fifa, and something needs to be done.
The White City game was between Uruguay and France and the QF was 5-3 after North Korea were 3-0 up.
Unlucky son‘Oh dear, what a shame, never mind’
Other teams share nicknames. So what if there are two Latics? Oldham are the originals but we’re more famous! (Where were you five years ago today?)
My family & i bumped into the 87 latics team at manchester airport. I had my photo taken with them all. I was 15 at the time. Still got the photo.
“I don’t believe it”. Photo or it didn’t happen!
Please goole (or someone else) tell me how to upload photos onto here & i will. If not, if anyone is a member of wigan athletic memories on facebook, i’ll upload it on there.
But it did happen.
If you’re asking me for IT help then you’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I’m not sure how ‘new’ it is.
AFAIK Latics fans have always been refereed to as ‘Tics’ The club maybe not, but what harm does it actually do? It’s created an atmosphere and has spread pretty well.
No, Adam.
It’s a new phenomenon from the past couple of seasons. Yet another example of people trying to change something….When it doesn’t need changing. It seems trivial, but it annoys me greatly. Just say Latics!! Whoever invented it needs a clip round the ear.
No, Dave.
It isn’t a new phenomenon it has been around many years. I heard it used in our first seasons in the league. However, I agree with Tyldesley, its much more prevalent now – or so it seems.
Or Champs.or Cha
Yep, sure was.Ha. -Aah! They have Latics flares! I’ll wager that flare has never been used as a champions celebration. I’ll wager it’s never had 4,300 ‘Tics storming the pitch with it.”
