The starting 11 from Goole 1971
That would be Reeves, Turner, Sutherland, Milne, Coutts, Gillibrand, Temple, Todd, Davies, Fleming and Oates. ;)
If there had been one more it would have been the crowd of the year. As it standS it’s soooooooo last year!
I must have been in the minority. I certainly remember celebrating Peru’s goals in a WMC. I did get challenged as to why and replied along the lines of ‘They hate us because we exist, we hate them because they want to see us die’ Now where have I heard that before? Braveheart my arse!
…Everybody believed it and most English got behind them as England failed to reach the 78 World Cup…
You must be joking!
Dave ‘i would rather watch my team get relegated from Barbados then stay at home and urge the boys on’ Whelan.
Or, Dave ‘I am a 77 years old millionaire with property in Barbados and I would rather be there than listen to the whinging, ungrateful gobshites that criticise me and my best players every other bloody week’ Whelan.
‘It’s an ordinary league match..
Who was the home team? ‘Ordinary’ league matches aren’t ‘ordinarily’ played at a neutral venue.
…to avoid a memory trip back to Goole in 1971.
Seem to remember it wasn’t the most memorable match. But while we’re willy waving, how about Billy Sutherland’s free kick against Port Vale, FA Cup 1st round 1969/70 or Jimmy Lynn’s back heel v Runcorn in one of the early season matches the year before and long before Jason’s at Deepdale.
Funny, but I can’t remember what I’ve had for my tea.
Milne’s ‘good’ players included Temple, Todd, Davies and Oates. They certainly influenced our goals for column.
Our best ever manager was ‘Sir’ Gordon Milne (as he masterminded our first Premier League title)
Hoping I don’t get accused of being a pedantic tw@t, it was Derek Brownbill who came on for Noel Ward. Hence the cry from the West Standers “Get Brownbill on” when we are losing at home!
…and I seem to recall one newspaper recording a goal for a Brown, W, instead of Brownbill. But as it was in the paper it must be true e.g. no money, no fans, no future, etc.
Yes, it appears that I did write:
‘No team from outside the top flight won the FA Cup between West Brom in 1931 & West Ham in 1980.’
But, I was referring to a line from #127109
Sorry, it’s the old men and computers thing!
No team from outside the top flight won the FA Cup between West Brom in 1931 & West Ham in 1980.
There’s a saying:
‘If you can remember the 60s you weren’t there’. Were you ‘there’ in the 70s?
‘…there really is no hope for our national side’ is all that was required
It’s not that I disagree with the candidates nominated, but it reminds me of what an old work colleague (miserable git) once said:
“Laughings (pronounced Lowfins)alreet for them folks that like it”!
On a milk float you say? Luxury. I went to Goole in 1971, had to crawl there on us ‘ands n knees. Took that bloody long I’m still on the way back!
