…because no team playing 4-4-2 has ever been relegated from the Premiership.
jimmy the point for me is that our current formation does not work we are bottom of the league because were shite. So wether its 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 or 5-4-1 it doesn’t really matter lets try something different FFS.
Just watching Leicester v Forest – commentator just said Leicester have been playing 4-3-3 since Sven days but Nigel Pearson has changed it tonight to 4-4-2 and it looks like the way forward.
Curently 4-0 up – Just a thought !!
Please don’t rake the old 4-4-2 debate up!
But Standish it may just work ;)
I’m better than Caldwell
That, I find very hard to believe.
We’ve already had Griff say he was better than Gohouri a couple of weeks ago – and I thought that was touch and go.
Sorry Standish i’m afraid your right, it was a not very well thought out statement ;)
The sooner Fig goes to left wing back with less defensive duties the better. He is dangerous going forward but sometimes in defence he plays like a 6 year old.
He also passes the ball like 6 year old, or he’s colour blind, or both.
But apart from him not being able to tackle, being frequently caught out of position, constantly giving the ball away, liable to panic and make the wrong decision, he’s not a bad player!
But in my humble opinion was still the pick of our back 3
My post was a tad ironic but nevertheless I’m wondering why you thought he was any better than Caldwell or Alcaraz last night?
I’m better than Caldwell, he is absolute shite and Alcaraz just seems to drift in and out of the game. What the fuck was he doing when City scored??? if you can’t win the header at least make sure the striker can’t.
the difference is with ferguson manure had won nothing for ages prior to his appointment except for a couple of cup finals, in his first 3 years the club had improved, it was just a matter of impatience and the desperation to win a trophy, it was not at all like martinez wher ethe club under him is going backwards.
So exactly what do you expect Bobbie to win in the next few years your argument is flawed comparing Fergie with Bobbie
I dont know why i bother with you really but here goes-
I wasnt comparing ferguson with martinez you plank – the other bloke(aceface) was saying ferguson was given 3 years before he got it right – suggesting martinez needs longer and things will come good – as most supporters of martinez seem to think – my argument was in that first 3 years ferguson had moved manchester united forward and improved them and the only problem was impatience for a trophy – whereas in many peoples opinion including both mine and some who once supported him is martinez has taken us backwards.
Now you could say that is opinion, but it is a fact and the league tables, goals F/A columns and just by watching shows this to be so.
fergie—86-87 pos 11th
87-88 pos 2nd
88-89 pos 11th
89-90 pos 13th
LMB not much improvement there apart from 87-88, i am not compareing fergie with bobby but the point i am trying to make is its so easy to get shut of the manager just like manure may have done with fergie but they stuck with him.SO HOW LONG DO YOU GIVE A MANAGER ?
Bob has had more than enough time to implement his footballing ideals on our club and it quite simply has not worked.
The sooner Fig goes to left wing back with less defensive duties the better. He is dangerous going forward but sometimes in defence he plays like a 6 year old.

Martinez will do the decent thing and call it a day we all know its not working in fact its never worked since he took over, never did i envisage wigan athletic not giving the FA cup the respect it deserves, little wigan dissing the cup competions what as happened to our once proud club. :(
Get over yourself you drama queen.
I have to say Standish I can’t believe you bit ;)
Doesn’t matter how much the City team cost, when defending a set piece its irrelevant.1 – Mark the man tightly
2 – EFFFFING JUMPAlcaraz failed on both counts numerous times before the inevitable happened.
Also someone needs to make them watch the old Arsenal back line (STRAIGHT LINES) not one running forward and the other running backwards whilst neither remotely close to one of the worlds best centre forwards.
The worrying thing is these two are our best two centre halves – Glaringly obvious were we need to spend in January for me.
Don’t forget the midfield and attack.
Standish I admire you arguing your corner in support of martinez but you are fighting a losing battle – whatever the reasons tactics, poor signings, bad luck or starvation of funds you and every man and his dog knows what is in front of all our eyes and it has gone worse not better.
True tonight it was an improved second half display against city, but city were poor and nervous at times and have been for their last few games, add the fact they had so many key players out,we could not have played them at a better time,if there is ever a good time to play them, but martinez does not have the ability to reconise this and go for the jugular, why bother living with the regret of being over cautious, is it not better to give it a go and die trying which didnt happen tonight and that sums martinez up for me.
The opinion he puts forward in his post match interviews – improved display and positives doesn’t wash any more.
There is a distinct lack of self belief, fight or motivation in this squad and no matter what anyone says the manager is the one who must address this, he is the route cause and where the buck stops.
I’ll repeat clearly what I’ve said on several threads over the past few days:
No, things are not going right on the pitch or we would not be in the position we are in.
What I have been picking up on are what I consider to be whoppers or merely people jumping onto a term that they have now knowledge of, and can’t explain:
There’s a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth after a one-nil loss to Man City. Some people need to get a grip of reality. Yes we could have gone for the jugular, but had everyone been thrown into attack and the back four been left exposed, we could easily have been hammered. On the firth goal going in, the stadium would have cleared to the sound of the odd boo and people posting on here an hour later saying Martinez’s tactics are useless – much the same as happened last night funnily enough, minus the scoreline.
What are his tactics? I don’t know. I’ve never been in the dressing room on match day.
As for the interviews – they are not aimed at Loudmouthblue sitting on his reclining chair in his fishing themed snug. His interviews are aimed at a wider audience, possibly including the players and suitors for them and himself.
Brownbill said the other day he’d prefer a more Mick McCarthy direct approach to interviews. In my opinion that’s the last thing the club needs. Unfashionable northern town; the general public think it’s a rugby league town of flat caps and whippets; they now also have a blunt manager who calls a spade a spade.
We may as well have a half time brass band.
But Mr Walker…..
…..it would be a shit Brass band with ‘flat’ notes, poor timing, lack of depth, not enough songs played etc etc…..
…and when they finished the few who had stayed on the terraces instead of leaving early for threir pint and pie would boo them off calling for the conductors head shouting obsenities about crappy French Horns and trombones that drag…..
………I stopped listening to this crap the darksiders spout weeks ago. Regurtitating the same old crap over and over……it’s a very sad life some of them lead, (it’s as if they have never seen us in this predicament before……. )
For Heavens sake, I even read earlier someone extol the virtues of using the long ball as a way getting better performance (indeed even results) without tackling the part about who our strikers may be up against in those scenarios….I have seen, far too often, established defenders not even break into a sweat when dealing with a long ball sent their way.
Hey ho fella!…..every credit to you for sticking it up against them.
It’s not over til…….. [insert picture of fat lady singing here]
So Micky lets just carry on regardless playing crap football that produces no goals and not much excitement and get relegated. If nobody complains we can all say we were proper fans who stuck with the team and never complained even though were crap. When us the supporters stop caring the club really is dead and I’m sorry but why should we have to suffer in silence???
I like Figueroa – I think he is decent but he is being played in the wrong position
The red card? – he shouldnt have been the last man defending on the half way line, he is better employed elsewhere on the pitch.
And who do you put in his place? Gohouri?
Noooooooooooooo.
We know all about our financial shortfalls but surely you have to agree that he had shown poor judgement when he has spent.Would you give him any more dosh ?
Yes, there have been some poor decisions in the transfer market, but unfortunately, all managers are prone to it.
You only need look down the road at Anfield where there’s a £25 million shire horse on the payroll. The manager’s still back him though – because that’s what managers do.
If I trusted him to manage the team, as Whelan is doing, then yes, of course I’d trust him with more money.
What is it they say about a fool and his money??? and whatever you think of Whelan he’s no fool.
I am truly taken aback at the responses on this thread. It’s as if people were dying for us to lose so they could jump on with their ‘told you so’ posts.
‘They could have scored four or five’ – yes maybe they could. That’s because they have very good players – much better than ours.
To put things into context, the transfer fees of Dzeko and Silva alone would buy the entire Wigan squad and pay their salaries for the season.
No we are not doing well enough this season, and that’s why we are bottom of the league, but the number of negative responses on this board after tonight’s game is disgraceful. Anything we got out of this game would have been a bonus.
Things were turned around at half time, and we looked a lot better in the second half – but get realistic, this was always going to be a game to get out of the way, and then concentrate on the next one.
Well said Standish, the next game is a must win and if we don’t I can’t wait to hear what your excuse will be for that one. We aren’t expected to beat City but Blackburn, Bolton Norwich the list goes on???
Loyalty is fine, but blind loyalty???
Excuse? F’cking excuse? Where’s the excuse?!!!!!!
We have just lost one nil to Manchester City. They are currently top of the league – that is, above Man Utd, above Chelsea, above Arsenal.
They can, and try to, buy any player they want no matter the cost.
They pay more to resurface their pitch than we do for our players.
so, it’s not an excuse, it’s reality. If we don’t play well, I say so.
Tonight, I thought we were okay considering who we were playing. If we played like that, and got the same result against (eg) Bolton, then no, we would not have played well.
Had the game finished 1-1 I know for a fact this board would have looked very different tonight.
Yes we need to win games – but did you honestly have this game down as a home win banker?
Standish we have played some absolute shite teams at home this season and won one game. Our season is not shaped by how we go on against Man City but by the likes of Bolton, Sunderland, Fulham all games we lost. We have QPR Saturday and can you honestly see us winning??? if we lose you will be on here with the usual Bob is great, get behind the team, things will come good, Bobs doing a great job, no money blah blah blah.
Admit it he is way out of his league and when we go down god only knows were we will end up if Whelan does not do the right thing.
But it’s a staement noy an actual question really isn’t it ?The point I made in my initial post was if you ran the club and held the purse strings would you trust Bob with your money???
Thirty how is that not a question???
Do we have to go down the path of shyte buys by latics managers ?
We are not just talking about another bad buy were talking about our record signing who when were struggling for goals has been on loan for 2 seasons.
He doesn’t want to play for us. What do you do? Force him to play?Personally, I’d like to see him back at the club, keen to play as I thought he looked like he was going to be a decent player. But I don’t think it’s going to happen.
If we’re starting with a game of bad signings however, I see your Boselli, and match it with a Marlon King (unsaleable player with ‘issues’, £4 million transfer fee plus £2 million a year in wages)
Can I raise you Jason Koumas £5.2 Million plus wages of £30 grand a week over 5 years
I suppose someone of the darkside could calculate those figures
Thirty read my last post a simple yes or no will do.
Amazing truely amazing the only time a darksider agrees with a comment from BobbieCouldn’t argue with him we were shite.
