Anyone would think that you Fillmoss would be overjoyed if the score would of remained 2-1 to the visitors ,I really question your loyalty sometimes i really do
Does that make any sense? Why would somebody voicing the fact they were unhappy we FAILED to win.. WANT us to lose? No, it makes no sense.
I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar……………….Is that much true?? ;)
(Quality single, should get a thread of it’s own B) )
No doubt a good player who is going for free WILL get other offers, and it is understandable that he WOULD consider other offers (Wouldn’t you if you think you could get a higher wage and had no prior affiliation with Wigan Athletic whatsoever?) .. But that being said he came to Wigan.
It has been established that the majority of players WILL move for money yet he still came here.
I think Alcaraz probably is just injured.. Although it does seem slightly suspicious, But I don’t think this link is the answer to anything, just a normal statement for a good player to make.
Some of the keepers listed on here have all made high profile mistakes recently. Schwarzer conceded from approximately 40 yards v Tottenham last week, Mignolet was badly at fault for WBA’s 2nd goal, Howard was castigated by Evertonians for not coming for a cross when Norwich equalised at Goodison Park, Krul gifted Southampton their first goal with a poor clearance, Cech was poor for Juve’s 3rd goal in Turin and Hart had a poor night against Switzerland. It’s the nature of the position Gents, Ali has been consistently excellent for Latics since he came here and we’re lucky to have him. I’m pretty sure that all keepers after making a mistake will come under criticism from a number of negative after-timers, the like of which follow all teams, we’re certainly no different in that regard. All of these keepers may have made mistakes. So has Ali (Twice recently). It doesn’t change an opinion. Mistakes aside, my top 5 still stand. Just because they made mistakes ASWELL as Ali doesn’t mean Ali is better. The only point you are making is that keepers make mistakes, we all know that, and although Ali is a good keeper, there are still numerous better keepers in the league than Ali.
This guy is a defender /midfielder I wonder if he his a replacement for Boyce in the wing back role maybe next season ? So that those who complain of signings pulling splinters out of there arse will get there wish to carry on complainingWhy would he be a replacement for Boyce for next season. If he is signing him now surely he should start inducing him into the team shortly? As even if the signing is for a longer term replacement, if we have him now surely we should give him games this season so he is closer to being ready and up to pace for the full season next season. So by that logic I believe we should see glipses of him at least. (That is if he even is a replacement for the RWB role)
Playing behind a defence like ours last season and on average his form
has been outstanding.Cech playing behind the likes of Terry has dropped as many clangers if not more than most and he has seen better days .Please remember that our keeper will come under more pressure than most and based on that alone and the no of times he has singled handed kept us in a game puts him high up the prem top keepers list.So would you have him over say Cech ? Lets just imagine if Chelsea came knocking and suggested a straight swap, what do you think RM would do ? What do you think the majority of fans would want ? I personally would take Cech !
Could be possibly more bold with this statement, as I believe anyone with their head screwed on would take Cech, I believe anyone that states that they wouldn’t are doing so JUST to try and prove a point. (Not that this situation would ever happen :P )
don’t be surprised if you don’t see hide nor hair of him for months !A definite possibility Filmoss.
They get us exited about a new signing that is usually a ‘great addition’ to the squad. Then don’t hear their name for months!!
Add Vorm and possibly even Howard to this list. I think Howard is underrated :)
Jamesc, what is your top 5 then ? You don’t appear to have submitted one !Not too sure if I am honest Filmoss, but when I think off the top of my head I can easily think of 5 above him.
I will submit my top 5 keepers now, bearing in mind it is basically off the top of my head, so changed may be made :P (These are in no order, just the 5 I believe are the best)1.Hart
2.Cech (I know I said he’s gone off the boil but still one of best)
3.Krul
4.Mignolet
5.Schwarzer??Other players could easily be in this list and would be above Ali, such as Friedel, possibly Jaaskelainen etc. Cesar of QPR also obviously a good keeper but admittedly not seen enough of him since moving to QPR. So basically they aren’t my definite top 5 as the aforementioned players could/should replace people within the list.
Actually Jamesc, the fact that I don’t rate De Gea DESPITE having a good defence in front of him actually enforces my opinion. The point I was making is that a goalkeeper would look better in a good defence than they would in a rubbish one. Nothing to do with comparing two different keepers abilities. Not really though. You said ‘Teams with good defenses, will appear to have great keepers’, which is obviously untrue as earlier in the post you had already clarified that De Gea doesn’t appear great. Saying you don’t rate him after you’ve contradicted yourself doesn’t enforce any argument/point you may have, it just enforces that fact that you have contradicted yourself and are still sticking to the fact you don’t rate De Gea. You can tell whether or not a keeper is good regardless of what team they play for and how good good their defense is, and unfortunately Ali still isn’t in my top 5, but as I said earlier, still a good keeper and happy to have him between our sticks.
Phil’s allowed one. People who don’t know what opinion means though and get all huffy when someone diagrees with theirs are the ones who should not be allowed an opinion.
I’m sure you’re one of the people that gets accused of this yourself Griff ;)
But I do agree, people that get ‘shitty’ cause others don’t agree with their opinions, are losers. B)
I know I am. Everyone is entitled to an opinion just as everyone is entitled disagree with it. The problem with this forum is that poster A confuses poster B disagreeing with him with poster B thinking that poster A ins’t allowed an opinion.
It is usually because poster A is thick.
I think some people just don’t like being proven wrong/corrected. Then get irate in defense.
My point entirely. You are wise beyond your years, young James.
No he isn’t ! :cheer:
I personally believe that I am :cheer:
De Gea wouldn’t even make my top 10, let alone 5. Friedel has been a superb keeper throughout his career, but his best days are probably behind him now. Exluding recent weeks, Al Habsi would be in my top 5 without a shaddow of a doubt. Just take a look at his penalty saving record last season. In the next year or two Joe Hart will probably be the best goalkeeper in the Premiership by a country mile. As for catagorising keepers in to a top 5, it’s a little difficult as obviously teams with good defences are going to appear to have greak goalkeepers.Slightly contradictive. De Gea plays for Utd (Team with decent defense) and you state that he wouldn’t be in your top 10. Yet you say that GK’s look good when play in front of good defenses)
Both teams get chances every game, I don’t think GK’s look good because they play for a good team, I think they play for a good team because they ARE good and have already proven so. (In most cases I believe)Got to disagree I think Ali is one of the best in the league. He is having a bad patch at the minute but I think we would be planning a trip to Peterborough etc if it wasn’t for him. The mistake he made against Reading overshadowed the fact that he made a world class save at 1 nil to keep us in the game.
1. Hart
2. Mignolet
3. Friedel
4. Al Habsi
5. HowardA few years ago I would of had Reina and Cech at the top of the pile but I both think they have gone off the boil to an extent.
I agree that Hart is possibly the best in the prem at the moment. Although I do rate Al Habsi I wouldn’t put him in the top 5, he’s just a good shot stopper really little unstable otherwise. Just a difference of opinion that’s all. Don’t get me wrong i’m very happy for him to be between our posts, but I think there are plenty better.
Completely agree regarding Cech and Reina, they have gone off the boil.. But to put Al Habsi ABOVE them is ridiculous.
We’ll agree to disagree, I honestly think Al Habsi has been better than these 2 over the past 2 seasons. I dont get how you can see otherwise especially regarding Reina unless you are just looking at the name or going off Football Manager’s latest stats!
Ha I don’t and never have played Football Manager ;) .. To be honest my disagreement was predominantly at the fact you put Habsi above Cech, as Reina has been absent for a large period of the season, but when Reina is playing, he would still be above Al Habsi in the rankings, in my opinion.
