It wont be 4 4 2.Those days have gone.
How about
Ali
Perch Boyce Ramis Barnet Crainey
McManaman McArthur Gomez McClean
FortuneAli
or Boyce Barnet Ramis Crainey
Perch McManaman McArthur Gomez McClean
FortuneAli
or even Boyce Barnet Ramis
Perch McArthur Gomez Crainey
McManaman Fortune McCleanPowell Maloney Kiernon Carson Caldwell on the bench. Then stick with this line up until the end of the season.
I would have Kiernan in the starting 11 but he is cup tied. Played for Southend by the looks of it, bet he is gutted now!
Might be an idea to go 5 in midfield to give Arsenal no time on the ball so they don’t get into their passing game. Teams that get at them seem to beat them comfortably. We just don’t seem to be playing well enough at the moment to beat Arsenal. Think the whining gooners just might nick it..
Great result and I remember some bloke in front of me got up and left in disgust at 2nil. Any kind of win on Saturday would be welcome, revenge for them sending us down last year!
Keirnan and Waghorn are both cup-tied.Bleedin ell, my line up needs a complete rethink then… Who has Kiernan played for?
What happened to Mclean for him to be on crutches?Waghorn has already played for Leicester in the FA Cup. As he is cup-tied, I’ve included him in my team to play Millwall.Jimmyc, what do you think our strongest teams would be?
Arsenal are going through a bad patch just now;
Everton 3-0 Arsenal
Arsenal 1-1 Man City
Arsenal 2-2 Swansea
Chelsea 6-0 Arsenal
Tottenham 0-1 Arsenal
Bayern Munich 1-1 Arsenal Champions League
Arsenal 4-1 Everton FA Cup
Stoke 1-0 ArsenalAfter today’s performance at Everton, they are clearly beatable. They are short of confidence and short of players too.
But we will need to field a strong, fresh team that plays well to beat them. Wigan play on Tuesday night, and there could be extra time on Saturday.
Missed this one..
Millwall gone but i would go for this against Arsenal. Tough one but think i would go five across the middle to stifle the Arsenal play. Could look to bring Maloney on in secnd half and even Mclean?
Ali
Boyce, Kiernan, Ramis, Perch
McManaman, McArthur, Gomez, Collison, Waghorn
PowellA false argument. You met one person. How many English fans have heard of Levante or Elche? Or Chievo or Sassuolo? There will be large numbers of foreign football fans who just support “their team” who have not heard of us.
BUT – equally there will be lots around the world who have, because of having been in the Premier League, and that was the original point.
Er, it wasn’t an argument, just a reply to his question. Understand there will be as many who have heard of us as there is who have not. This guy and his son knew a fair bit about the prem, but mainly the bigger clubs.
Nail on the head for me Jimmy, Utd and Liverpool are global brands and sell the Premier League along with maybe a few more clubs. I wonder if a European Super League was born and our big clubs left
the PL, how many countries would still show an interest?. Fans in places like China want to see United, Liverpool etc not the rest of the clubs in the league. Its the big boys not the division that is the attraction.
That wasn’t quite the question though, was it? The original question was about whether people around the world knew about Wigan because of them being in the Premier League or winning the FA Cup. I used to travel the world with work and not one person had heard of Wigan pre-2005 but once we were in the Premier League everywhere I went they had heard of us. (Except Bulgaria, for some reason. The guys there hadn’t heard of us at all. But then again, I hadn’t heard of Varna before I had to go there.)
I suspect that even more now know about us because of the FA Cup win, but to say we weren’t known around the world from our time in the Prem is just wrong. Oh, and my sample was much bigger than JimmyC’s holiday Athetico fan ;)
Pmsl… Well my comment was purely harmless, and whether it be my one example or jet set Griff lifestyle example, they had not heard if Wigan Athletic!
My work occasionally takes me off to foreign lands, Scotland! Was talking to a Dundee Utd fan as recently as December, and he asked me what league were Wigan in…. Suppose that backs up GL’s comment about foreign supporters supporting just their team :)A false argument. You met one person. How many English fans have heard of Levante or Elche? Or Chievo or Sassuolo? Tired team today, 9 points clear of 7th, large competent squad to pick from.
Would you pick Saturday’s team vs Arsenal, rest almost all and put a “second string” out vs lowly Millwall midweek?
Or give Millwall respect, attempt to solidify our playoff berth and rely on the Wembley occasion to push aside any tiredness for those that also play midweek?I’d go with strongest possible team for both matches. The teams around us are dropping points, and if Burnley do capitulate we need to make sure we capitalise. It will be tough against Arsenal and a game we just might lose regardless of who we put out?
You serious with that comment about McLean? one thing he can do is take a man on and beat him. His final pass or shot ain’t that good, and he is so left footed it makes him predictable, but he has pace no doubt.
Dead serious.
He’s so one footed its not true. Callum can go both ways and tie a full back in knots – Gael Clichy being a prime example.
I’m still waiting for McClean to beat a full back and get a decent cross in.
Your original post implied he couldn’t beat an egg, he can and on his day makes a difference. Agree that he is so one footed.
If you watch Callum he will go to his right 90% of the time.
I wonder how many people around the globe had heard of Wigan Athletic before last May despite us being in the P L for 8 seasons. The whole planet watches the Cup and our little club and our amazing triumph was the topic of conversation of football fans from every Continent even if only for a short while. That’s why to me it has to be the Cup.Funny because you would expect most European footballing nations to have heard of Wigan, what with us being in the prem for 8yrs & winning the FA Cup. Was talking with an Athletico Madrid fan on holiday last summer and he had never heard of us :) my overall football knowledge ain’t the best but I knew more about Athletico than he knew about us. I had to tell him about our recent exploits, he had heard of man city though!
Answer to the question, both for me…
Or maybe he thought Powell was being a lazy git and macca was having one, pretty sensible subs in my view. Fortune to hold it up and use mclean pace on the break
I’d have taken Powell off much earlier – and not bothered bringing anybody on in his place. Arrogant, lazy twat
Disagree. The performance dipped after he and Callum went off.
Callum is the only player we have who can beat one or two players.McLean would struggle to beat an egg.Fortune couldn’t score in a brothel to complete the cliches. ;)
You may think Powell is lazy and arrogant but he can display a touch of class – the goal last Saturday at Bolton illustrates that.
We’ll need some more of that in the next few matches.
Powell didn’t do a lot today but I thought the service to him was non existent. Fortune came on and did more in a short space of time than Powell.. And I don’t rate Fortune, so maybe he was a bit billy big time?
We’ve struggled all season against the teams at the lower end of the table. Especially when they chase us down giving no time on the ball.. Points on the board is the main thing, but performance is also needed so let’s hope we improve. If we play like that against the gooners they will tonk us!
At this rate we could all sit in the dug out with the Manager and backroom staff.
Funnily enough, that’s not too far away from where I will be sat
Sounds like you will be in the Bobby Moore hospitality section?
Depends on the team Uwe picks, if he starts Powell & Callum then we have every chance of picking up three points.
Gonna be a tough one tonight, but we seem to play better against the top teams so will predict a win. Four out of their five defeats have been away so let’s hope we make it six.
14 in our little gang so 91 now :woohoo:
Heard about the extra allocation for Gooners last night. I don’t agree with the semi being at Wembley because it takes some of the excitement away from the final? but wouldn’t miss this semi for awt. Said this last year but will say it again, god knows when we will get there again in the FA Cup :P
