Roberto Martinez?
if martinez scored on debut in 1995,could it be a fair asumption that pehaps diaz or seba could have done as well ?
Did Andy Mutch score for us on debut, possibly at Deepdale?according to this link he did score while on loan for us but it doesnt say if it was on debut, the swindon town website is (who he played for at the time ) is even less helpful
http://www.thewolvessite.co.uk/amutch.htmThat one between Duke and Roberts is annoying me
did jeff/geoff horsfield score on his debut for us
YES THAt’S IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it was a guess that, i was thinking like you egg who in between duke/roberts,wasnt that at the time we had all that first bad blood with west brom over signings-why ? aaahh because they took horsfield off us,thats it horsfield probably did it.
but now i have checked and found horsfield now on wikipedia and it says he scored on debut for us in a 4-2 win against wimbledon on 13th september 2003.
That one between Duke and Roberts is annoying medid jeff/geoff horsfield score on his debut for us
good god was the clive evans ones really 29 years ago,i remember that game it was a scorching hot day and a brilliant game,i think bobby campbell scored for bradford, that was the season we got promoted i think, eamon o’keefe was signed in january to give us the push towards it
record £65,000 signing.eamon o’keefe did it away at northampton i think, could have been peterborough though but i know i was there when he did it,god knows what year but larry lloyd was manager, didnt clive evans do it also away at bradford, first game of the season 3 all or 4 all draw and a cracking game.
also jewell may have done so away at burnley
Loudmouth caught on camera.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBGBh70KzbQsorry its not me, i havent had a cigarette in nearly 4 years, and no-one in my family has ever had that much hair !!
fec me i could be griffs long lost brother
everybody on here knows i am martinez’s biggest critic and i do not apologise for that despite today, but one thing i am sure of is martinez would have handled zaki much better, and i will go as far as saying martinez would get the best out of him,
why?
because martinez seems to do things in a much calmer, methodical, tactical way,he seems less emotional and non confrontational,in essence ‘chilled’ which is totally opposite to what bruce was,and when dealing with a ‘head case’ as we all know zaki is this is probably the best way.
for what ever reason, probably his head was turned by the mega publicity he got,and he started to beleive his own publicity, things turned sour with us/bruce, but we again probably only know one side of the story, but i think the fee being demanded from zamalek, dealing with their nutty owner, and zaki’s less than perfect behaviour prompted the route we went down.
but ask yourselves who has never skived off work for no reason for the odd week or been a bit stroppy or bolshy with your employers at times ?one thing for sure is we all know how good zaki was at times last season, and his work rate was second to non.
i will leave you to ponder on one thing, imagine a foward line of zaki up front, with rodellega and nzogbia playing off him,
if martinez could give me that, even I would sign up to his pretty football philosophy.Couple of things:-
1, no mention of the “Spanish One”, it’s Martinez-this, Martinez-that. Are we mellowing, LMB? ;)
2, apparently the tea lady has vetoed Zaki’s return. Personally,I would take another punt on him. Better the devil you know, and all that. Think the suggestion would have to be a really solid one coming from Bob before Whelan will let him back here, though.
PS, I like the “reducing the size for the quotes” protocol. It should be compulsory.
grif
1, no i will never mellow i stick by everything i ever say right or wrong, but even i find it hard to be totally objectionable (usually the norm)on the back of a hard fought(lucky or not) 2 nil away win, dont worry i have no doubts my ‘spanish one’analogy will be used again this season during my periodic rants.
2, i think the money being quoted now for zaki would more than compensate for the tea ladies hurt feelings
3, give me 5 minutes to edit my script in future before quoting me,everybody know i’m a tosser but you dont need to highlight it.
ps, you missed the ‘italics protocol’
Yes loudmouth, i would have Zaki back in a flash, till the end of the season at least, then if he wants to go to his dream club he will have to play his socks off until may,and an on-form Zaki is a frightening thingeverybody on here knows i am martinez’s biggest critic and i do not apologise for that despite today, but one thing i am sure of is martinez would have handled zaki much better, and i will go as far as saying martinez would get the best out of him,

i think the fee being demanded from zamalek, dealing with their nutty owner, and zaki’s less than perfect behaviour prompted the route we went down.
but ask yourselves who has never skived off work with no legitimate reason for the odd week or been a bit stroppy or bolshy with your employers at times ?one thing for sure is we all know how good zaki was at times last season, and despite everything going on off field he still chased everything every time he got a runout , a combination of injury, loss of form and sheer bad luck contributed to him going off cock, this lad was riding the crest of a wave and he probably didnt expect or know how to handle the bad bits that every player in the premiership goes through from time to time.
i will leave you to ponder on one thing, imagine a foward line of zaki up front, with rodellega and nzogbia playing off him.if martinez could give me that, even I would sign up to his pretty football philosophy.
The Big Four are called that because they are, and have been, by and large, streets in front of the rest. So it’s not unsurprising that they have won almost every FA Cup going in recent times. But your point is fair, and I have to confess to not giving this a huge amount of thought, but…
If the cup winners have already qualified for the champions league by finishing 1, 2 or 3, then the play-off spot could go to the cup runner-up, just as used to happen with the old cup-winners cup, I think. Obviously, if the cup winners finished 4th in the league there would be no need for a play-off and the Sky TV brigade would have to sate themselves with a re-run of one of the Liverpool/Newcastle 4-all draws from way back when.
But actually, my suggestion was aimed more at the clubs (like Wigan, Fulham, Hull, etc) who currently field weak teams because they are worried about risking their over-worked darlings in an FA Cup match that offers them nothing in terms of helping to secure next season’s PL place. If winning the FA Cup offered them the chance to enter the CL and thus earn even more cash than the Pl season offers, they may have more incentive to take it seriously.
It’s moot anyway, because it won’t happen.i agree with you in everything you have said and as a football fan would love to see something done to break the big 4 stanglehold on everything, i was just pointing out the pitfalls, the main area of concern to me is that we (and other teams of similar standing) dont put effort into winning the fa cup because ‘we dont think we can win it mentality’ .
the goings on at portsmouth since they won 18 months ago will probably convince all but the biggest gamblers/extremely rich club chairmen that there are no actual benifits from winning it apart from a day out at wembley for the supporters, and in the whole premiership/sky scheme of things we both know how highly fans are thought of.
The ‘big’ clubs won’t go for it because there is clearly more chance of them NOT winning the FA Cup than coming 4th in the league.
A play-off between the FA cup winners and the 4th placed league team would be an interesting compromise.Griff your suggestion is a good one but it has one fundemental problem:-
2009 Chealsea 2-1 Everton
2008 Portsmouth 1-0 Cardiff
2007 Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United
2006 Liverpool 3-1 penalties 3-3 after extra time West Ham United
2005 Arsenal 5-4 penalties 0-0 after extra time Manchester United
2004 Manchester United 3-0 Millwall
2003 Arsenal 1-0 Southampton
2002 Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea
2001 Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal
2000 Chelsea 1-0 Aston Villa
1999 Manchester United 2-0 Newcastle
1998 Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle
1997 Chelsea 2-0 Middlesbrough
1996 Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool
1995 Everton 1-0 Manchester United
1994 Manchester United 4-0 Chelsea
1993 Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday
1992 Liverpool 2-0 Sunderland
1991 Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Nottingham Forest
1990 Manchester United 4-3 Crystal Palace
1989 Liverpool 3-2 Evertonin the last 20 years we would only have had 2 games ,well in actual fact one game because when portsmouth won it in 08 it was the first time a ‘non top 4 side’ had won it since spurs in 91, and in 91 there was no champions league as we know it now,
this probably shows that the top 4 do indeed take the fa cup seriously,or worse still they know they are that far ahead of the bunch they can get away with playing their ties with mixtures of reserve and youth team players.
someone else suggested giving the 4th place champions league spot to the fa cup winners, this also would have made little difference, portsmouth would have qualified in 2008 instead of arsenal, and liverpool would have ousted everton in 2006,as liverpool fa cup winners , still qualified for the champions league on a technicality which was changed after that issue,so the only change would have been portsmouth in(2008/9),everton out(2006/07) or as you suggest griff a playoff in 2008 pompey v arsenal.would this merit the change, you suggest?
Both are rumours taken from a website so just for Griff’s information i’ll not be claiming to have ‘known’ they were coming if any do sign. ;)
Whereas your other 87 came from your own personal network within the game of course
;)
Haha, yes of course.
I think of names in my head, post them on here and hope for the best.
why not ?, it seems everybody else with player rumours does the same.
or worse still they see a player on ‘fifa world manager v333030’ who has scored 20 cyber goals and then let the rest of us know how they discovered this gem of a player.
This beggars belief. Tiger Woods is currently a man at risk of losing his livelihood as a result of consensual extra marital affairs, yet a convicted rapist is welcomed into our town by the public and people are asked to pay for the privilege of seeing him. It’s an absolute disgrace that he’s even allowed into this country. Would Marlon King be allowed into the States? What’s next? An audience with Peter Sutcliffe? Low impact aerobics with Purple Aki?
He has the right to do what he is doing, and its up to people’s own conscience to decide if they wish to pay to see him or not,
the main thing we should object to is the use of wigan athletic as a vehicle for his publicity drive.
and you are 100% correct standish if tyson was english he would not get a visa to travel to the usa.thats ok then jay he wont be going missing here,we’ll just send a posse down king street on a friday night he’ll be dead easy to find, and then on monday mornings he’ll be in the queue outside the doctors waiting for his sick note with all the others who have been on the razz all weekend.
quite well thought out signing this one
does anyone think it could be worth a punt bringing zaki back to keep him company.
i have no problems with tyson doing what he is doing and earning a living,my issue is with him being paraded around with a latics shirt,we are a club that prides itself on its family based position, and this man is not a roll model for that image.
as thirtytwoyears points out “marlon anyone”,dave whelan sacked king, claiming that what he had done was morally wrong and an afront to our family club,i hope he now distances our club from the nasty rapist thug that tyson is, just as he did with marlon king.
