We are in a very strong position now defensively with 5 centre backs (Bramble, Boyce, Amaya, Gohouri and Caldwell) + Scharner who would make 6 although he plays in midfield.
My point is, our defence has always been short on numbers, even when Jewell and Bruce were in charge we were always short at the back. Now, Bobby has done what he said he would and started building on the squad making competition for places.
I think, if we sign another 4, 5 or 6 players in January and say 2 or 3 go out the door Bobby will have stuck to his word saying that no matter what happens this month our squad will be stronger by the end of it.
you can sign as many defenders as you want but until the spanish one realises that we need the forwards scotland or rodalegga and the midfield of nzogbia, diame and thomas to get among the opposistion defence/midfield when they have the ball as heskey, valencia, palacious and cattermole or brown did last year ie defend from the front we will continue to open up to other teams and ship goals.
coming to the DW stadium, in observer wearing a latics shirt ,if you want a photo with him its £145

so we should celebrate a RAPIST and a THUG coming to our town,i was totally ashamed when i saw it in tonights observer.
12th January.1st signing of the window (of 5 or 6 to come, allegedly)
Nobody (I bet) has ever seen him play.
But… he’s sh***, a waste of (no) money.
Situation normal.
Welcome to Wigan, Steven3 or 4 acording to whelan in tonights observer-and that depends on us getting shut of the “fringe players” first.
Caldwell for £1m would be an absolute steal, but as for Lua Lua and Elmander, I wouldnt pay £8 never mind £8m…they are both garbage of the highest order.is that the same elmander that some people on this board were wetting them selves when we were linked with him under jewell, or the same elmander who some people on here were up in arms about, because he had chosen the horwich lot instead of us.
Obvious. Take the £5m and bring back Roy Tunks. Failing that, Tony Pennock. Or Phil Hughes. Or Simon Farnworth. Or Nigel Adkins. Better stop now – showing my agenigel atkins is not a bad shout
hes done more in his short managerial career than any of the shower we have.
12 January 2010 at 2:52 am in reply to: Latics attendances given another slant by the Daily Mail #17941You’ve not seen the final games for 15 years!! How can anyone who’s obviously watched us climb the leagues chose to miss the opportunity to watch us get promoted to the Premier League, I just find that bizzare. Presumably you’ve watched us all over the country and yet you miss the biggest game in our history….I would have crawled the length of the M6 to make that game.like this or like it not, my ONCE a year fishing trip to ireland is MORE important to me than the latics,on a board where people try to out do each other on how big/good a supporter they are this may not go down well, but thats how it is.
oh and btw a few things to add if you find my loyalty “bizzare”
i left my wedding reception to watch a fa cup game, along with my wife, father in law, brother in law and best man 28 years ago – i flew back from saudi arabia to watch the freight rover final v brentford, got to gatwick at 11.am and flew back 9 pm the same evening, came back from the middle east to watch the leeds quarter final fa cup game,i also flew home from belfast and got straight on a coach to highbury for the last game ever there, just so i saw EVERY game home and away that first premiership season,
there have been MANY “biggest games in our history“and i have certainly done my fair share of them, and spent vast amounts of money doing so.12 January 2010 at 12:59 am in reply to: Latics attendances given another slant by the Daily Mail #17923we are all different
i never boo poor displays or have ever done, but many who
“support Wigan Athletic. If they are playing at home, go. Simple as” do so ;)
True, and I wasn’t aiming my comment at you, specifically. ;)
Anyway, you can hardly boo if you’re not there, can you?
Me, I always go and never boo – that must make me some kind of Superfan, no? :?
holidays, work and trips to ireland fishing(ive not seen the final games of the season for 15 years) are usually the only thing that prevent me going to games, even though i may not be there i have paid my dues with my season ticket and have done for over 20 years,
so when i chose to stay away on purpose for one game it shows how serious i think the problems with wigan athletic are.11 January 2010 at 7:38 pm in reply to: Latics attendances given another slant by the Daily Mail #17888It was a perfect excuse for the typical Wigan martyr to ‘make a statement’ and avoid spending £15 in the process.I support Wigan Athletic. If they are playing at home, I go. Simple as.

11 January 2010 at 6:08 pm in reply to: Latics attendances given another slant by the Daily Mail #17865Okay, sorry, maybe the thick comment was uncalled for. However, I would not consider the facts we have nine other more established clubs close proximity, a substantial population of the town with Scouse heritage, and a professional Rugby League club competing for supporters to be mere excuses.
Yes there were ten thousand on at Springfield Park, but not just after Christmas during the coldest winter on records, with two reserve sides playing.
well nobody as asked some of the real questions WHY did people not go to the game ?
i’ll start
a couple of reasonsas you all may know i am sick of the rubbish being served up by martinez, this one man up front and letting other teams just play, without the fowards/midfield chasing down every ball and getting in the opponents faces, and this for me causes all our problems, but that in itself would not stop me going.
we were away over new year but could have come home early on saturday if we wanted to ,but despite ringing nearly every pub in north cornwall and then driving 30 miles to watch the man u game in a pub showing the game on a foreign tv station ,i was totally ashamed of the display that night and martinez’s inability to motivate his players or accept change that his system is a total failure
we decided to not bother with the hull game in protest.
SMB – you forgot one of our own board members – Maurice Lyndsey. He hates us as well.ah but isnt he in the iberian ‘love in’ camp now
well certainly the camp bit
i actually know the “guy in charge of the gritters” and i know he doesnt hate us,he actually comes to watch games now and then,he match fishes so doesnt go at weekends but comes to any evening games we have.
oh and btw he thinks the spanish one is useless as well so most on here would hate him ;)
why oh why do we keep playing him ?
martinez sent him off to play in a friendly to see if he can regain his confidence
Why have you put this on… When it’s been on cockneylatic for about a week already and I think the joke about it being Scotland has already been made too?
[/i
thats probably because i operate behind the times and like doing it my own way, despite every man and his dog knowing i am wrong,i will not except change even though my system doesnt work-
bit like the spanish one it seems.

If that was a dig at Gareth Hock, he wasn’t done for Sted abuse ;)It wasn’t aimed at Gareth Hock as he doesn’t post on here to my knowledge! It was a general RL jibe. If the Rugby League supporting fraternity do not thing ‘roids are rife in their sport, then they are sorely mistaken.
“roids” as you call them are second only to cocaine among egg chuckers
FFS change the record.horc just for you and jason scotland, i will change the record, but one thing for sure i guarantee it wont be this one.
well if thats true that wont go down well in Whelan Towers as the tight old cooont has instructed that complimentary buscuit given with a cup of coffee at Wrightington to be withdrawn as a cost cutting measure
b a s t a r d s have done that in frankie and benny’s as well-good job we know they keep the stash behind the coffee machine and we help ourselves.
