Did they get their 91 point victory?
No.
Latics should have been over the hill and far away by half time – I lost count of the number of chances that went begging and ping-pongs in the penalty area. If ever there was a “Game of two halves”, that was it. Peterborough were a completely different side in the 2nd half.
I have a very diverse and multi-cultural team at work. One girl was telling me the other week how someone got offended on her behalf because when they went for coffee, she was asked if she wanted it black or white, rather than “with milk or without”. The girl in my team wasn’t offended at all – she hails from Jamaica, and is completely pissed off at the way the PC brigade have removed the colours black and white from everyday life.
For someone who claims to own a business, Kev hasn’t grasped the business of running a football club in Wigan, and how hard it is to get a casual fan to attend. If in doubt, refer to the crowds for any cup tie in the past 10 years at the DW.
If they were to charge £15, they may get 500 extra which equates to £7500 in extra revenue. Fantastic! But….
the away fans would have to be charged £15 too – a drop of £10. If 1000 away fans travel, then that equates to £10,000 less revenue.
£2500 loss per home fixture sounds like a piss poor business model to me Kev. Even an egg-chasing, gravy-stained chubster like me can see that!
The reason the Latics charge £25+ for a ticket is because its the only way they can legally charge 3,000 Bradford & Blackburn fans £25+ a ticket when Rovers come to town. I’d be very surprised if the home matchday ticket sales are any more than a couple of hundred.
The matchday price is aimed to maximise cash from visiting supporters. Home supporters had/have the option of paying around £200 for 23 home games. Anyone intending to go to more than 10 games would be daft not to have taken up the offer.
Lescott spent the latter part of last season warming his arse on Sunderland’s bench whilst his old mate Moyes picked anyone and everyone to play in defence for us last season. When he did get a run out, he looked hopelessly out of his depth, but then again that was against the likes of Costa, Aguero and Lukaku, not whoever plays up front for Northampton or Walsall.
I’m surprised nobody higher up the footballing pyramid has taken a punt on Ricky Lambert though – he’d be a really good acquisition for anyone below half-way in the Championship, as long as you weren’t paying him Holt-style wages.
I have adblock on my PC & laptop. No adverts & popups on those sites.
https://adblockplus.org/Otter, I reckon mutty,s post is a top example of the lengths the modern footballer will go to.Anything to get their own way just look at this window and the power the players have nowadays.Nail hit well and truly on head.
Nuneaton is one of the few on here who can actually see past the “he’s a rugby mon and therefore his opinion is automatically wrong”. There are cheats in all walks of life, from Fred Goodwin through to the old turnstile operator who let you carry your kid over the turnstile instead of paying the 50p admission fee. Footballers are probably up there with bankers as the worst for it, looking to blame anyone but themselves for their own failings.
Or is cheating only cheating when its someone else’s player doing the cheating?
We approached Portsmouth and they said no do nothing selfish there.Taken from another thread:
Clearly in the know more than I am as I wasn’t aware of a requested fixture change.Either you or Egg is wrong. You say there was a request, he says not.
I was at the game yesterday. The facts:
1. There were gaps in both ends, but there were definitely more Hull supporters than Wigan. However as just about every neutral was supporting Hull then it was hardly surprising. I saw lots of Leeds, castleford, Bradford, Huddersfield, featherstone and numerous other Yorkshire clubs all rooting for the Yorkshire club. I didn’t see a single saints or Warrington shirt, but even if they were there, they’d be cheering anyone but Wigan!
2. Half of the top tier was empty – where the TV cameras were. Most of club Wembley wasn’t filled either. The rest was full. 68000+ sounds right.
3. Travel problems hampered Wigan fans more than Hull, as kings cross was open as normal.
4. Hull city unselfishly switched their game to Friday night to allow supporters of both clubs a chance to watch both sides.
5. I won £50 on backing Hull after the first Wigan try.
6. Hull deservedly won.
I bow to your superior knowledge GL!
When a competition has got to the stage where a 3rd and 4th division side picks a team full of reserves and youths to face a top club, then you know that it’s time to call it a day.
The FLC was always a shit idea created to give lower league sides a big day out. It has become even shitter with the introduction of a few U23’s sides.
Some of the faces on here look pretty miserable, considering it was 0-0 at the time. Perhaps they weren’t aware they’d be watching Villa youth v Latics Reserves!
8' Some of the Latics fans who have made the trip to Villa Park tonight. (0-0)

In the interests of fair and accurate reporting, rather than speculation, I tried a dummy booking for two seats together in the Wigan end. Blocks 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 501 and 506 had only single seats available. Blocks 502, 503, 505, 507 and 508 had no seats available.
That leaves the blocks that are priced at £55, £70 and £85 per head with no concessions.
I also had a look at what may potentially be restricting the sales in Wigan (ie other attractions on at the same date and time). There didnt seem to be any that were selling in large volumes. Entire rows are available at the DW that day, not just two seats together.
