Sorry to sound blunt here, but if they dont pay the bills, who will?

Most of you have declined to pay up front for your 23/24 Season ticket, so unless the owner sticks his hand in his pocket, there’s bugger all in the bank to keep the club going over the next couple of months, let alone the season. And he’s hardly likely to stick his hand in his pocket when he’s not wanted.

Have you got an interested party in place to make up the monthly shortfall?

I reckon 35 points will be enough to stay up. Leicester, Everton, Forest & Leeds all have pretty horrible run-ins. Anyone playing Spurs should be targeting that for 3 points, and its a case of picking a point up elsewhere.

Dead rubber game now that Rotherham beat Middlesbrough and ensured their survival.

2-0 win but still going down. Warnock’s got Cardiff and Sheffield United next – two clubs where he is an absolute legend. There’s no chance he’ll come away from those games with no points.

It would have been that charlatan of a Chief Exec that arranged the contract length and salary.

Might be a first here, but I agree with Bullitt and Bickymon.

You are fucked and have no chance of staying up. I looked at the fixtures last month and thought “after Sheff Utd, they are very winnable”, but that was before the wages debacle and points deduction. Beating QPR (just) was a dead cat bouncing. Losing to mid-table, on the beach Swansea was the nail in the coffin. Today against Blackpool you are playing for 23rd place.

Go down, stay down, rebuild, develop a robust youth system, a model which doesnt involve signing a squad full of thirty-somethings on stupid wages, and enjoy watching the youngsters develop. Then come back up when you know you have a championship quality squad that will easily survive. There’s a phrase “if you’re good enough, you are old enough”.

Could he possibly ( and this is pure speculation Btw ) have an appearance clause in his deal which means money will be payable to his former club if he plays anymore games or scores a set number of goals ?

You got him on a free from Sunderland so there was no transfer fee. Also, I very much doubt there will be any appearance/goals triggers being activated considering he only scored a handful before his heart attack, and has barely featured or scored since then.

It’s more likely a confidence thing, where he doesn’t yet feel comfortable pushing his body to the extremes needed for professional football. Understandable in the circumstances but it can’t go on for ever and perhaps conversations are taking place about retirement and insurance payments.

Perhaps you’ll stop bleating that the EFL have it in for Wigan and nobody else.

Relegation is nailed on so get a few young players on the bench.

    Is it shite.

Free hit on Friday. After that Swansea, Blackpool, Stoke, Millwall, Reading, Rotherham.

    Hardly pants-shitting fixtures.

    Well done Sir.

Good luck for the rest of the season and beyond. Its a tough ask to stay up, and it might not be the best thing in the long term, but I’m sure the likes of McClean & Power dont want yet another relegation on their CV and will give everything over the next 5 weeks to make sure they dont.

Some of the debts are eye watering. Sadly, the fans of every club turn a blind eye to it as long as the debt is being serviced and only cry foul when that arrangement falls through.

I recall Gretna being bankrolled, even though everyone knew it was a vanity project that would eventually crash into oblivion. Chelsea being sold for £4 BILLION. The list goes on.

I know its unpopular on here, but Wigan’s owners are just as guilty as Man Utd’s for spending what they dont bring in – L1 clubs said last year that you were buying the title, and 156% of turnover on wages is, frankly, cuckoo land. yet very few of you were bothered by Wyke’s £10k a week salary in L1.

Excessive player wages and agents fees are the cancer that needs cutting out of the game and there needs to be a cap in place for each division as a % of turnover, with serious penalties for breaches (ie 1pt for every 1% over). Lets say the salary is 90% of turnover – that would have been a 66 point deduction for Wigan, meaning L2 football instead of championship. Thats the sort of draconian measure the EFL and PL need to take to stop this ridiculous spending spree.

Anyway…what charity would you like your £20 going to?

In the comments with the donation, use the words “Egg – Cockney Lactic”.

    :good:

I see mutty the smell is still here.

Like one of them Sunderland fans on twitter that claims were obsessed with them. Not a single Latics fan posts in the #safc feed but you can’t move for interbreeding mackems on the #wafc one.

Good to see you back Stu. I’ve missed your wise words.

Sadly though, rather like your mocking of Sunderland’s “Championship quality” squad, you are wrong again with this claim.

https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/wigan.1603141/page-10. Poster Danny T and Midas are quite regular contributers on a very busy forum. Sometimes they even try and start an argument about the rugby on threads! Swindon on Tour is another poster (no prizes for guessing who he supports). Then there’s Bristol City and your good friend barnsley – again come on various threads. In fact, there are dozens of fans of other clubs who post – Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, Stoke, Luton, Hartlepool, Bolton, Scunthorpe, WBA to name some more that I’ve seen. There’s even a Villa fan (Cridge) who has been posting since the Prem days and still comes back for some craic.

The one thing that differs, is their views are heard, debated, sometimes disagreed with, but never does anyone try and bully them off the forum with vile, personal attacks. That is unique to you, Bullitt, Bickymon and Egg.

Be proud of your uniqueness gents.

Good to see you back SSB – I for one have missed your wise insight this season.
